When I plan my meals I am so much more effective in managing my nutrition. Because of that I eat nearly all my meals at home, or bring a sack lunch from home for work. I enjoy parties and social gatherings for sure, but there always seems something out their lurking for my attention. Not in a good way though.

Oh man, I overdid at my son's birthday party Saturday night. Too much of everything, and even though I only had a sliver of cake, I ate other sweets. Scale hated me Sunday morning. Getting back to normal today, but still not where I should be. Tonight I have a salad buffet before my Bible study. Sheesh. I really needed today's Spark Coach session. This is tough. I'm fine when I eat at home, but eating elsewhere is still a challenge for me. Help!

I graze usually when I am working. I do not take the time to sit and eat a meal, but I will take my lunch and a sandwich will be cut into four pieces, when I can get a small section and then a couple of hours later, I may eat half of a hard boiled egg but I will get my full lunch in during the day. This keeps me satisfied and allows me to keep my energy up and control my calaries for the day
Keep on track

Yes, you are right. Today is a new day. Most of the time, I have no guilt, but for some reason, last night, I did. I have a cheat day, each Sunday, when I visit my Mom.

Was bad, this evening with my friend at a local restaurant. We were celebrating our 50 year relationship. We did split a cheesecake dessert with whipped cream, as well. I rode my bike for nearly an hour after. I feel so guilty. Tomorrow is a new day.

XQ..Once you make the good days, the norm, consistent, you should begin to feel in charge. I am having a good day today. I'm piling up a big tote with loads of clothes that have got too big for me, in the last year. Do you exercise? That really helps as well. I do feel much better, when I exercise Today, it was the pool, but on different days, I do different things.Good luck to you.

As of this morning I have not grazed for 5 days, no credit to me, I am suffering from the 'crud' upper respiratory, sinusitus, sore throat and clogged ear tubes. No interest in any food, much less grazing. BUT, I have decided I am able to continue to avoid the 'grazing' fiend even after I am recovered from the 'crud'. I have got lots of wonderful ideas, prepacking my snacks, more fruits and veggies, I already drink close to a gallon of water a day so adding water probably will not help. I think this topic has meant more to me than any topic I have seen on the message boards. Thanks to everyone for the posts

After supper eating has been a life long struggle for me, but I finally think I have it together. I do chew gum every night, and if I can't stop myself, I eat a piece of fruit, or yogurt and berries. You could even eat a little salad, if the dressing wasn't a fattening one. Water is also a great filler, and you could add some crystal lite to it. I also will have a green tea, which is excellent.

I'm a college student and I am a terrible grazer. My sleep schedule is so sporadic because of school work that sometimes I have to eat after 8 p.m. to keep my blood sugar stabilized. Had bariatric surgery in June of last year but I'm starting to slip up again and graze a lot. how do you guys keep from eating after 8 p.m. or so?

You can't eat what you don't have. I try to avoid buying lots of sweets (my particular weakness), and instead have one or two small things that I'll try to save for when I really need them. I chop up raw veggies & put them into containers so I have a portion to nibble on when I want something. Healthy granola bars, Greek yogurt, fruit... I try as much as possible to have these things on hand so when I am hungry, I have something quick to grab. I have a three-month-old, so taking time for lots of prep is often not an option. Chew gum! I find keeping my mouth busy keeps me from feeling like snacking. And stay hydrated. Drink a glass of water and wait 5 minutes. You might not feel so hungry after.

So, my hardest time is between the hours of 8-10 p.m. I eat so much during this time its almost as if I'm eating a whole additional meal. In fact last night I need eat a whole additional meal including a second desert. Definitely something I need to work on.

Yahoo! I lost two pounds, just since yesterday, so hopefully, I'm back on track. I'm only 4 pounds up now. I do eat a combination Breakfast and lunch, usually eggs. I may have a snack, fruit, late afternoon. Then we eat a lean supper at night. It's either chicken, turkey or fish, a veg. and a salad. We don't eat supper until 6 or 7 p.m. I do try to work out, all the week days. Here's hoping, for success.

i'm getting better. my schedule is breakfast at 8, lunch at 12, and dinner at 5. in the day i have no problem since im only a few minutes away from mealtime, but after dinner...the fridge and all the leftovers start calling me. i try to keep gum on the door, so i make that choice, but if i don't, and i snack a little, i just drive on and try not to do it again the next day. i also skip a meal if i eat too much. people say it isn't right, but i like to do it sometimes combined with a workout to make up for my grazing.

Trust me, I feel your pain. :( I've battled with not only high levels of anxiety and depression since I was a kid, but am also a notorious emotional and binge eater, especially when I feel like crap. I've been on a diet since April 1st and am miraculously behaving enough to be down 7lbs.

I'm a grazer too so I try to have plenty of healthy low-fat low calorie snacks around like pre-cut veggies, fruit, dark chocolate covered almonds, kale chips etc.

I used to nibble compulsively, and getting rid of TV cable (we get no channels without it) and going to bed early to read really help me. I plan my calories during the day so I have (try to have) enough left for a portion of Lindt 90% dark chocolate. That reward keeps me good.

I'm also a grazer however I work night shift 7p-7a. I do not eat after midnight because it starts a new day from me. I usually make a meal before work add it to my tracker so I know exactly how much more I can have for the rest of the night. So I try to take healthy snacks such as low fat crackers or trail mix that keep me satisfied until I can get a break to eat my prepared meal. It's very hard staying on track but with preparation and thought it can be done!

MAYBER, My heart goes out to you. Being a home bound caretaker is one of the hardest, most boring jobs and I know eating is one of the easiest boredom- and stress-busters for the moment. I feel like a caged panther, pacing the perimeter of my enclosure and glaring at all the people who are free to walk about and just look curiously in my direction. Lots of resentment, and then guilt for feeling resentful. Keeping my hands busy helped me, especially if I'm doing something that I need to keep my hands clean for (needle work or crochet), or something that my hands stay dirty (painting, pot gardening) so that I wouldn't want to touch the food. Best of luck to you and your DH. My prayers are with you.

I have gotten better at not grazing, mostly that I don't keep foods around that I want to graze on, but I am able to do that because I live alone, without kids, so I only have myself to blame when those foods end up in the apartment. I did stay home a couple weeks ago when I had a bad cold for a couple days. I had to be really careful to not just eat and eat all day! It was really hard! Made me appreciate my busy work schedule a little more though...:)

I don't do a lot of cooking, my DH does most of it. But I do the prep work. So when we are cooking together, I'm chopping the vegetables. Just recently I realized that even grazing on vegetables is not good, because its a habit. So I try, try, try, to not do it.

Yep, I graze as well. I hate it! I'll do great all day and then cave and eat junk. I try to keep it out of the house but my husband isn't really diet conscious and he loves chips, nuts, extra buttery popcorn, etc. Very frustrating!

I am a huge fan of chips and cheetos. But, because I live alone, I am the only one who gets those things in the house. So, my trick is this: when the craving hits, and I feel like going out to the cornershop to get some, I just wash my make-up off an put on a facial mask. A hair mask is good, too, because it prevents me from leaving the house - I cannot go fetch any chips with my face covered in mud!

I have found that in the evening if I floss and brush my teeth I will not want to eat even if I feel sort of hungry. It usually passes and i wait until morning. Also if my dinner has plenty of protein and fat it is satisfying and will last and I feel no need to eat or snack or graze. In fact this hold true all day. since I started my low carb, moderate protein, high fat way of eating, my grazing mechanism is mostly turned off unless of course I do not follow this WOE.

My husband prefers not having a healthy dinner and likes to graze...no, make that snack. Grazing makes it sound innocent and the snacking is anything but innocent. I have allowed myself to sink to his level. It's so much easier to snack than it is to make a good dinner. Tomorrow I am going to prepare a healthy dinner for two. If DH wants to eat with me, all the better, but if not I will have leftovers for the next day.

Last time I stayed with my brother, this wife informed me I was a grazer. I'd never thought about it before, but she's right. I can't keep Lays potato chips in the house because I'll eat a whole bag three chips at a time. Same with oreos, one now, one later, all gone. I go back and forth on whether it's better to go ahead an graze, but on healthy things or to try to unlearn the habit by forcing myself to stick to set meal/snack times.
