When the body is acutely stressed it looses weight fast. But unfortunately, most of this weight is muscle and or water, not fat. Surgery, illness, trauma will all do the same thing. When I had pancreatisis I went down 15 lbs in 4 days. Then I slowly gained it all back. The trick is to keep your food intake up to a certain level to convince your body it is not dying, and then to slowly take it off- but all you probably already know this, so I will shut up. emoticon

Not quite the same as the flu (although the pain meds made me throw up), but when I had my wisdom teeth out I lost 10 pounds in a week. Once I started eating normally though, it came back on. So, until you get better and are feeling back to normal, I wouldn't worry about it.

I do agree that you need to be getting plenty of hydration. When I'm sick I drink Vitamin Water Zero, in the XXX flavor, so I'm at least getting some vitamins in.

Working on maintaining at 140!

I had the flu a couple weeks back, and i lost 9 pounds in 3 days. I couldnt eat anything for thoes days. Then as i recovered i ate very little for about a week. I had to force myself to eat a little bit every couple of hours to get my appetitie back to normal. I put five pounds back on...but have slowly lost thoes pounds again through healthy eating. I wouldnt be too worried, just get plenty of fluids and slowly work your eating back up :) Healthy eating of course :)

It's normal to lose your appetite and lose weight when you have the flu. I wouldnt' read anything more into it than that. Just be prepared that when you are healthy again your appetite will come back with a vengeance, you will likely gain back most of what you have lost, and again that is normal.

I would make a quick call to your doctor. You may be becoming dehydrated. Since you've been ill, I'm sure you doctor would be the best source of advice.

I never thought I would be asking this question. I seem to be losing a half-pound to a pound a day. But I've had the flu for a week now and am still having some of the symptoms, mainly a nasty cough which makes my chest ache, especially lower left side. I haven't been exercising, nor have I had much of an appetite. I try to get in at least two small meals a day and make them nutritious. I am simply not hungry for more. Is this why I'm losing? Is this rate of loss dangerous to my body?

Thank you.

I support epilepsy awareness and research.
