Raw Carrots -- When I'm really hungry, and I have few or no calories left in the budget, raw carrots are a great satisfier. I bet I can peel a pound of carrots in less than 5 minutes. Satisfyingly crunchy, too. Lee

sunflower seeds have helped me in the past- i plan to get some and start incorporating into my snacks! otherwise nonfat greek yogurt is HUGE for me- great snack on its own or with fruit and/or nuts (or oatmeal in the fridge!), great sub for mayo and sour cream, great base for egg/chicken salad, great to mix with frozen yogurt (store bought is a little too sweet for me), etc etc! so many possibilities and an extra boost of protein and calcium!

Fage 0% fat Greek yogurt egg substitute PB2 - this is dehydrated, defatted peanut butter. It is amazing! There's 1.5 g of fat per 2month tablespoons! !! If you love the taste of peanut butter you HAVE to try this! It had helped me tremendously!

I have struggled with inflammation for the last few years. Recently, I learned about The Whole 30 - which is a 30 day challenge to help reduce inflammation. I am finding that it probably needs to be a lifestyle change for me, not a diet...but it starts with food. Eliminating sugar, grains, dairy and legumes is the basic change. I'm dumping weight like crazy and my joints are so much happier. As a result, my magic foods are lean meats, healthy veggies, yummy nuts and healthy fats, and some fruit mixed in, here and there.
One of my favorite go-to breakfasts is lean ground turkey with a little cinnamon, allspice and red chili flake, browned. An egg over the top of that, and on the side, some grapefruit with blueberries! I also make this yummy omelet for my hubby: egss, spinach inside, avocado sliced on top, and with some salsa - SOOOO good! You don't even notice there's no cheese!
Dinner tonight is buffalo tri-tip with sauteed brussels sprouts - we're addicted!
If you're interested in info on The Whole 30, here's their website. Please note, they have a plan for around $15 that provides support if you want it, but the basics of good health, diet, rest, etc. are available on their site for free....SparkPeople is really the place to be for support, additional info, tracking, etc. though! http://whole9life.com/category/whole-30/

Mary PS To my old SP friends - It's been a very rough year... My beloved, healthy, athletic, tall, dark and handsome husband died in August 2012 from a very aggressive cancer... In the many months caring for him I was stressed and didn't "care" anymore, and put back on 30 pounds I had just finished losing... Fish and neufchatel cheese are two of my saviors! I highly recommend lox OR pickled herring with neufchatel on one slice of whole-grain pumpernickel, rye or other sort of bread. It's very filling and sticks to my ribs. I'm amazed at how full I feel and how long I feel full after a meal of this, with some homemade low-fat cole slaw. Other secret success food is soy milk. I mix 1/2 and 1/2 original and vanilla low-fat soy milk for a snack around 4 pm. It is yummy heated up in the microwave too, so I get a 'comfort food' fix for snack every day!

I make my own vegetable soup. I HATE VEGGIES, so I need to make everything taste the same. I have a 70 calorie vegetable only version, 80 calorie with red beans, and 120 calorie with red beans and ground turkey for 1 cup. Low sodium vegetable juice and tomato sauce or sometimes some low sodium vegetable or chicken stock are the base. frozen mixed vegetable, frozen green beans, crushed tomatoes, celery and carrots. Cooked 4-5 hours and it is really good. I make a big pot every weekend and I eat 2-3 cups EVERY day!! A little Franks hot sauce kicks it up a notch if I am in the mood. I also eat sugar free jello 3-4 times a week and my own trail mix concoction that starts with 50% plain old Cheerios, then nut, raisins, and sunflower seeds. Sometimes an M&M might slip into the mix!! 70-75 calories for 1/4 cup. It is just enough to curb bad cravings.

Tofu has been my savior. It satisfies my hunger so well that I've eliminated in between meal hunger and late night snacking, as long as I eat 3 good meals and one good snack and stay in my tracking zones. And there are so many tofu options - scramble, saute, marinate, make into pudding or soup, I love it.
Today. Get it while its hot.

Cucumbers sliced with a dash of vinegar and salt free seasoning is my craving cutter secret . I also keep a roll of sugar free pepper mints and hard candy when I really need something sweet. My other sweet craving secret...add a few drops of vanilla to my coffee and a splash of milk. Tastes rich enough to trick my brain.

Snack on Pistachios...One 30g serving size is 43-47 nuts...which equals 160 calories... So I put 22 nuts in a ziplock bag which is worth about 80 calories per snack. Dessert: Greek yoghurt with frozen raspberries or strawberries...Take out about 6-8 berries from the freezer, sprinkle with a little bit of sugar or substitute and then add a few drops of good balsamic vinegar. Microwave on high for 30 seconds or until soft then mash with back of spoon and swirl through low fat, low sugar Greek (thick) yoghurt. I use 98% fat free yoghurt which is peach flavored. Oh my...it's so good. The tiny bit of balsamic vinegar lifts the taste like you wouldn't believe and it's very satisfying. Drink: 1 cup of Almond Milk sweetened with No Sugar Vanilla or Caramel Syrup and sprinkled with cinnamon (can also make it into a vanilla latte with coffee). The syrups are available at coffee houses like Gloria Jeans and Starbucks. All you have is the calories of the almond milk, depending on the brand. Mine is 78 calories per 250ml.

I start my day off with an apple cider vinegar drink (2 tbsp of Braggs apple cider vinegar, a little honey and about half a glass of water). Not only does this little concoction help to keep my appetite in check until I get to work and have time to eat, but I really feel like it helps me to focus better. I'm sure it is all in my head, but I feel as though I've had more energy since I have been taking it. I also eat salsa like a crazy person. It is so low in calories and gives everything a great flavor kick. I use it as an awesome salad dressing, dip veggies in it, add it to wraps, etc. Tea is also a huge help when all I want to do is snack and snack. I am consuming something (which makes me happy) and not taking in any calories (which also makes me happy!).

I split bags of salad into 2 cup servings and I add carrots, tomatoes, snap peas and any other vegetable that I have on hand. I place 2-3 in my work's fridge & that way I always have something healthy to eat at work. I also love hard boiled eggs, dry roasted edamame, greek yogurt & lots a fresh fruit. Since I work at a desk, I try to get up and move around for a few minutes each hour (avoiding the break room because it is filled with junk!). The best thing I found is doing food prep the night before & track my calories that way I am never guessing the next day.
