That sounds like a really good idea. I will! Thanx!

I agree with everyone else. Do it yourself. The server will usually bring you a box right away if you ask.

Ask for a box when you order. That way you can you have it when the food comes out and you can separate it once the food comes out and not be tempted to eat more than intended.

Ok, well I will do it for myself from now on then.. it was just so much easier to have it done before it even got to me, because then there wasn't an issue of willpower or making a decision how to do it.

yes, it is definitely easier to do it yourself, rather than give the server or kitchen staff any more grief than many already do

I halve it myself

Your encouragement is greatly appreciated!

I usually do it myself at the table. I can understand a restaurant's reluctance to do it-- cutting it in half in the back, can mess with the "presentation" of the dish at the table. In many cases (depending on what you ordered) they don't fix a plate and then cut it in half and serve you that plate where it's obvious half of it has been cut off, scraped off, or scooped off. For example, cutting a steak in half is going to have meat juices running all over the place. There is no way to remove half of a grilled chicken salad, or half of a pasta dish with melted cheese on top, without making a mess in the bowl-- better to prepare a dish for the table, and another one for the box.

My personal thought on it is, I let them present the dish to me at the table, the way they have designed the dish to be. Then I slaughter it myself.

I used to ask that restaurants would cut it in half in the back and place it in a box before it comes to my table. I've had good results doing that at Red Robin.. but had an incident at Claimjumpers where the server kept coming back to ask me if that's what I wanted and eventually had a manager come out about it.. I guess it was the first time someone had made that request. The manager relaxed somewhat when I told her "it's a diet thing" but have felt a little awkward doing that since.

Does anyone else ask them to cut it in the back, or do you just do it yourself once it gets to your plate?
