It depends on what Im making. If a recipe calls for raw, I use raw nutrition counts and weigh it raw. Since I only cook for myself, If I am eating a chicken breast or something, I'll measure it raw since I don't want it get rid of an ounce or some such because I cannot guess cooked weights from raw and I don't want to keep an ounce or something as leftovers. Ground meat I generally do cooked as I cook up a large batch and then portion it out. Im not going to separately measure out 3 oz, cook it, measure out the next. Too much work. Much easier to cook, measure, bag, freeze.

I weigh my food before when feasible.

Of course, if your recipe calls for a raw amount (e.g. 1/4 lb. ground beef) use that; if it calls for a cooked amount use that (as in cans of beans ... already cooked).

And of course it can be entertaining if not super informative to weigh before-and-after, mainly to see how much water was gained or lost in the cooking process.

I just purchased a food scale. I have been weighing after I cook it.

I would weigh it after since that's what you will be eating. Why would you weigh it before when juices and fats are going to cook out that you aren't going to eat - that doesn't make sense to me!

sometimes I do both just to see how much it changes through the cooking process...

I always log as cooked.

Weigh before.

Veggies I don't worry about so much and most of those serving sizes are cup measurements so those are a bit easier :)

That depends on what entries you're using. Sparkpeople database entries (the ones with no usernames beside them) are for cooked unless otherwise noted. User-entered entries may vary.

I don it before cooking for both.

Your encouragement is greatly appreciated!

Should I weigh meat prior to or after cooking. Is it the same with vegetables?
Thanks for your help!
