I want to increase my protein intake easily. I don't like eating a LOT of meat.
The commercial high protein bars are pricey and have a lot of unpronounceable ingredients.
I don’t like smoothies of any kind. Actually, I never drink ANY calories after my morning coffee and OJ – just a personal preference.
I saw the SP recipe for peanut butter fudge protein bars using whey protein powder
I also don’t use any artificial sweeteners – also a personal choice – or sugar alcohols unless they sneak in without my noticing, like in many of the commercial high protein bars.
This makes choosing a protein powder rather difficult. Either they have tons of sugar or artificial sweetener as well as some weird ingredients of their own.
I chose a brand (Designer Whey premium protein powder) with “Stevia leaf” as the sweetener. It seemed the best choice.
The bars taste really good.
Then I bought “RAW Protein” (sprouted brown rice and other sprouts protein). The label says “no fillers, colors, flavors, sweeteners or preservatives.” Sounds like my kind of product. But it does have STEVIA LEAF, which technically is natural, I suppose.
I haven’t tried the bars with this brand yet. It's not WHEY protein powder so it may make a difference in taste.
So, I turn to the collective wisdom of SP. I’ve searched the message boards, but none of the threads really fit my situation.
Any information or advice? This is an area totally unfamiliar to me.
The race is not always to the swift, but to those who keep on running.
