I don't even think "hunger shakes" are normal. Also, once every month or two, or when you restrict intake is often enough that you should at least consult your doctor. I know you probably don't want to, but it could hold you back if its a minor think, and it could put your health in jeopardy if it is serious. The tests a doctor would do are really simple, and at least then you will know.

Thanks, BUNNYKICKS! I think that's what it is, since the "episodes" are so sporadic (however, as I said I will seek medical attention if it coninues, promise!). I'm trying to figure out what to eat for breakfast that will keep me satisfied until my morning snack and then what to have for the snack that will stay with me as well until lunch. I'm scouring this site for ideas and I think I've got some good ones.

Well "dizzy" is just never a good symptom.

"Shaky" - if you mean that "omg starving gotta eat something now now NOWWW" sort of "hunger shakes" - i think we are all familiar with those! For me, that tends to happen if i eat a really crappy breakfast of refined carbs/simple sugar (waffles and syrup, say). Or if i try and skip breakfast altogether. Having some complex carbs and protein at breakfast keeps me satisfied till lunch.

Only you know how you feel, but if "dizzy or lightheaded" is part of it, it really is worth having a word with the doc. You never know, you might have something going on that is only coincidentally appearing at the same time you started changing your eating habits - it might not be related to your food at all.

I'm sorry. I really didn't think it was a medical issue so much as my needing to learn how to balance my food intake. I should have been more specific and asked how people balance their food throughout the day and still stay within their calorie intake. As I said, it happens infrequently (approx 1-2 times per month) and always when I start to limit my calories and up my exercise.

Again, I apologize if it appeared I was looking for medical advice.

You have only been tracking for 1 1/2 days. And since you are having these symptoms, it would be best to consult your doctor to find out exactly what is happening.

Since this is a medical issue, it would not be appropriate or ethical for this site, our members or experts to try and "guess" with a diagnosis or treatment. And it could be dangerous for your health. Call your doctor.

I've now allowed my nutrition tracker to be shared but I've only been tracking since yesterday.

I will see my doctor if it continues. I appreciate the link to the explanation of carbs and will use it to help me make good decisions. For now, I'm going to eat smaller portions more often and make sure I include more protein.

Thank you for your reponses and concern. It's nice to have a place to get ideas and support!

You don't have your nutrition trackers shared, so it's tough to make specific recommendations. I think a consultation with your doctor would be well advised at this point. Carbs are not evil, and will not sabotage your weight loss effort. The trick is choosing the RIGHT carbs:

If this is happening a lot, I would be very concerned that you're not eating enough, or may have an underlying medical condition.

Off hand I would say your blood sugar is dropping. I would speak to your doctor and get tested. My niece has this problem sometimes too. Part of it could be not eating frequently BUT talk to your doctor please.

I've had symptoms like that in the past, too. Now I try to eat something every two hours. That keeps me from feeling lightheaded, but also keeps me from feeling hungry and letting in to hunger. Maybe try having something small between breakfast and lunch.

I've been on and off the healthy-eating wagon for several years. Over the last few months, I've noticed that there are days (not always) that I feel light-headed and I get the shakes. I eat pretty much the same thing every day for breakfast and some days make it until 11:00am or so with no problem and other days (like today) I get this dizzy feeling and my hands start shaking. Sometimes I even get really sweaty (TMI..sorry) . If I "carb up" as I call it (eat some bread or a bunch of crackers) it goes away. It happened this morning and I ate a banana but still not feeling very well. I get discouraged with regards to potential weight loss when I eat the carbs I'm trying to stay away from right now. Any thoughts? Am I waiting to long to eat after my breakfast to eat again? Is my breakfast nor subtantial enough (I had oatmeal this morning)?

Thank you advance for any insight or ideas of what to eat to keep me from bingeing on carbs...
Cathy
