Hey the only way I find to cut cravings is to not have those food you know will make emoticon emoticon you weak and want to eat , don't buy them or have in your house that's the way!!!

Have healthy food most people know what they are I won't make a list, it's hard I know but it will get easier as time goes on it will become second nature just stay focus and positive and you will succeed good luck to all!!!!

Hey Turtlesdove, I have toughed it out - but it took me considerably more than a couple of days! I still have to work at changing my bad eating behaviors to good eating behaviors. My cravings have lessened but I really have to be vigilant to ensure that I don't sneak any of my trigger foods because that will set off a bout of binge eating. I truly wish I had the fortitude to just make the decision to abstain and move on but I recognize that I have addictive behavior when it comes to processed carbs - especially sugars. I have to tough it out every day!

my cravings disappear when I stop eating bad carbs, ie., the things that made me gain weight in the first place. Tough it out for a couple of days and watch how your cravings go away. If I'm lying I'm dying!

I haven't had cravings since I restarted SP, when I did I would usually give in because I had been so good I was convinced I deserved it. I actually deserve to be healthy and giving in to cravings is not healthy physically or mentally. I am eating more fruit this week and I think that satisfies any cravings. And working out daily in the morning also helps.

I curb cravings by eating what I crave. Eat a small portion of what ever you are craving and it will go away. If not, if you are craving sweet, eat an orange. It curbs the sweet cravings.

When I started the diet that helped me lose 40 pounds, I had to clean out the pantry. Over two garbage bags of highly processed foods and carb heavy snacks went out the door. Next, hubby put his treats in the trunk of his car and took them with him when he went to work every day. I couldn't sneak them if they weren't in the house.

I had done the switch from simple white rice to brown, white bread to whole wheat and cut back on pasta and potatoes. The craving for treats came and went in the months I was on the diet, but I had options like a protein rich hot chocolate and some bars and soy nuts to crunch and munch on. That helped alot, knowing there was a treat waiting for me at the end of the day.

Clear out the pantry, adapt your cooking to fit the way you need to eat now and everyone in your family will get good things out of your renewed sense to do right by your body and life.

I love IP and Spark People!

I have found that everytime I start a new "diet" it is only days before I have cravings so strong that it almost seems physical. I got in the habit of stopping at a particular convenience store to pick up a "healthy" snack bar to tide me over until I could make dinner. When I made my mind up to stop mindless snacking I decided to stop my daily detour to the convenience mart. On my trek home the next day I started thinking about my daily stop. I could almost taste the snack bar. As I got closer to the mart I found myself thinking of reasons why I should just go ahead and stop. The desire to stop was so strong that as I drove past I considered where I could turn around and go back. I wanted that snack bar so much that even when I was turning down my street I was thinking of other stores where I could pick up the same bar. I managed to get past the craving, but continued to experience it every time I drove home. Over time it became easier, and I began to understand that my craving was as much a habit of behavior as it was a desire for the snack. I still have difficulty getting past that store, but I persist knowing that if I go in thinking I would but just a bottle of water I would break down and buy the snack bar as well. It is because of this experience that I believe that sometimes our diet failures are due to self-fulfilling behaviors. If we can get past the behavior that accompanies the craving, we may be able to conquer the craving!

When I first started to try and control my weight a couple years ago I became aware of two important things. The first was that if I ate a snack, which was invariably carbohydrate-loaded, I would have a craving the next day at the same time. I got rid of the craving simply by not eating anything at that unusual time of day to be eating. The day after that, the craving would not be there! Secondly, I have a fairly active, physical job and I would freak out if I started getting hungry and shaky. One day I just didn't have any extra food to feed myself and I just had to keep on going. And guess what?! I couldn't believe that I WAS able to keep going and the hunger and shakiness just went away. There was no reason to believe I couldn't make it any more! Those were two of the biggest breakthroughs I had. I wish I knew the science behind it, but there it is.

To lose the majority of my weight, I added 1 tablespoon of flaxseed to my oatmeal every morning. It helped me stay satiated until lunchtime. If I got hungry I kept snack size baggies of unsalted sunflower seeds (pre-measured) for a snack. Cottage cheese is a good source of protein to help keep you from getting hungry too.

You are so right ! I had to learn that the hard way , still it is superb, and is really common sense. I guess we tend to go for the sweet snacks or crunchy. I am getting better though. Just wanted to say t.y. for the reminder..

Plan to snack at your craviest times. I've learned that a solid protein snack (like rice and beans, chicken, etc) is much better for me than something sweet or carb-y. Like others, I could use a sugar detox.

I think I overdid the exercise 2 days ago, after which, somewhat shattered, I ate all the borek my friends gave me, instead of cutting it in half and taking the other half home. Which took me over my calorie guidelines. I then had a stressful day yesterday, preparing for a first meeting with mothers and children, which in fact went very well. Yesterday evening I craved a small piece of baklava, but resisted, as it would have taken me over my calorie guidelines again. Today I've been really hungry all day, and was falling asleep over my Bible this morning, despite turkish coffee etc first thing. I had a second portion of kefir, which helped, andfor second half of breakfast pumpkin soup with kefir and kiwi skins whipped up in it (don't waste them!}, and half a banana whipped min for sweetener. CAlorific, but all good stuff.
At lunch time, I was starving! Herbed brown rice with mushrooms. I think in fact I took too small a portion. Filled up on lots of carrot and brocolli. And craved something sweet. An orange and a kiwi. Didn't do the trick. I was STILL craving the baklava! Mini portion, size of a large chocolate. So I decided my body was telling me I needed it, and thoroughly enjoyed it. If the friends I'm visiting this evening don't tempt me beyond the endurance of my willpower, I should remain within my calorie guidelines today. I always fill my late night snack i n beforehand, so I don't get a nasty surprise in the evening.
Didn't feel like exercise today, but did the prescribed 40 mins of bootcamp anyway, which energised me enough for 15 minutes gardening.
I think the craving that lasted overnight was actually my body telling me I needed it for some reason. One tiny portion satisfied the craving. Thank you SP for changing my mindset and my reactions, to say nothing of helping me take off 6 kilos (2 more to go!)

A very hot cup of green tea helps me with my craving.

For myself I did not realize how bad my CRAVINGS where until I decided to go low carb. I limited myself to 20-30 total carbs a day. What happened was unexpected, I did not have that ravenous almost animalistic hunger I experienced when dieting in the past, grabbing something quick to devour. I can go for longer periods of time without eating now and when I do eat 'I am in control' and choose a healthy food, my carbs are now healthy veggie and fruit carbs. I am a total food junkie so I still don't keep nuts in the house or I will eat them all; I feel that this is comparable to an alcoholic wisely doesn't keep liquor in the house. I am trying to log on to SP when I get into a thought process that may lead to the kitchen and seek a healthy portion of motivation, may I suggest a terrific motivators blog, ON2VICTORY, his blog 'taking your eyes off the scale' proved incredibly insightful to my personal struggle with weight loss.

Regarding ice cream, esp. Hogandah, there's no such thing as a little serving for me. The whole tub or nothing. That was before.
I often make 'instant' ice cream spontaneously after dinner. Very satisfying, very cold and virtually all fruit. I started this when my daughter was little and she's 25 now:

2 cups frozen fruit and/or berries
1/4 to 1/2 cup plain 0% yogurt
just a little bit of sweetener (stevia, sugar, honey)
Crush frozen fruit or berries in blender - I have an ice blade that works well for this (for crushing ice cubes). When right consistency, add yogurt and 1 Tablespoon sugar , then taste, then adjust. I found we gradually just got to like it with less and less sugar, but you can start with more.
If the frozen fruit pcs. are very big, as strawberries can be, I nuke them for 30 sec. or so - easier on the blender blade.

This is the only moment of my life.

The wellness coach at my gym told me that a craving lasts 10 minutes. If you wait 10 minutes the craving will pass. Personally, I struggle to wait those 10 minutes but when I distract myself for awhile the craving does go away.

I keep cravings at bay by not having a restricted diet. I know that I can eat whatever I want, just within normal portion sizes and if it fits into my daily targets. Sweet potatoes aren't evil and a piece of dark chocolate isn't going to keep you fat. I have them both and keep losing weight.

Aiming to drink 120 ounces (64 isn't enough!!) of water and having protein at every meal is key. Coffee is a huge appetite suppressment for me. But sometimes I just need a snack size bag of cheetos ya know? So if I'm hungry and decide to go for an apple but know that after that apple I'm probably still going to be craving those cheetos, then I skip the apple (and added calories) and just go for what I want - but don't overdo it!

Drinking enough water and eating protein helps me. I overdid yesterday and realized afterwards that I should have checked whether i was thirsty! I was also tired, so made bad choices instead of getting rest.

The year 2013 is my year for tracking; tracking food, tracking movement, tracking feelings, tracking thoughts. I am a work in progress, I do not have to be perfect.

Thanks for this suggestion. I love almonds and eating 12 would definitely curb my appetite. I will keep a snack bag of almonds in my purse for the times I need a little snack just to get me through. I especially get "hungry" sitting through meetings.

I mix pureed pumpkin with fat free greek yogurt. Add some Stevia, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Tastes like pumkin pie! emoticon

I don't buy pizza, ice cream, etc. If it's not in my house, I rarely think about it, and even if I do, there's no way for me to get any.

Strongly-flavored herbal teas (like peppermint) give me the feeling of consuming something satisfying. If I have the extra water and flavor of a tea, I'm less likely to reach for something I shouldn't!

Boy can I relate to having cravings! My solution has been to eat 3 healthy meals and 2 healthy snacks every day. My body has gotten used to the routine and so the wild cravings I had when I first started only rear up occasionally. When they do, I tell myself I can have it tomorrow and of course by the next day it passes.
I do not have any of my binge foods in the house because I know I will end up eating them at weak moments. The other thing I do is get busy in the evening. I walk around the house or do light exercises during commercials.
There are moments when I would love to indulge in the mind numbing sensation of eating all of those foods I used to binge on, but then I think of how I felt and how hopeless and powerless I felt. And I just don't want to go back to those days.

Never, ever, ever give up!

I never bake cakes or pies or have them in the house, because I would take a fork full or a "half " slice every time I can pass by it. When I buy sweets, they are single serving packages. I think twice if I open a second (or third) serving! Mostly I try to walk away from the candy dish at work -- I don't do well once I have one, I don't stop. If there is only one left--I grab it knowing there is no more! At home, I really like Mocha International Coffee (sugar free) with soy milk. Satisfies my craving but the soy adds protein satisfying me longer.

May you find joy in unexpected places, comfort in the little things and peace in your own corner of the world.

I've found that letting Hershey's Dark Chocolate Kisses melt in my mouth cures my craving for chocolate. Usually two will do the trick, and each kiss has only 20 calories.

In the past I craved carbs. Sugar and flour were my downfall. Once I started, it always led to overeating. I gave up both last August, and have been craving free. The most difficult part was the first two weeks, but then it became much easier. Now, I drink a cup of green tea, if I think I'm hungry, because usually I'm just thirsty, and that takes care of it. If I feel I really need something I'll make a cup of healthy hot cocoa.

8oz unsweetened almond milk - warm on stove in small saucepan
add
2 tsp - organic cocoa powder
1/4 tsp -Stevia
mix well

Enjoy! lisa emoticon emoticon emoticon

I noticed my husband was eating almonds just before supper. So I checked them out. Lo and behold they curb a craving for food and are low in calories and fats for 10 to 12 whole almonds. So.... to curb cravings I will measure out the almonds and shove them in my pocket and take a couple when I am out shopping or whatever. I want to satisfy my need for food and not go trying everything else that is the pits. This seems to work for me.

My only way that I know is not to start! One cookie leads to eating them until the plate is gone. Then I feel lethargic and hate myself for lack of control! There are other good choices to substitute, sometimes. It requires putting alot of thought into it and always having something handy to replace the temptation when I can't just walk away. Some people have a stronger resistance level than I and I am jealous of that! Mine will come, this is a journey that is a lifetime that has no end, but that's okay! I am ready to live a long, long healthy life!

Honestly, I think the only thing that helps curb cravings is time.... eating healthy for long enough will eventually minimize cravings enough that you don't think about unhealthy food 24/7). I am just about over unhealthy cravings, and have been eating healthy for about a month. I still eat a handful of chips now and again (my weakness), but NOTHING like I used to. Also, my fast-food french fry addiction is completely gone now. Chinese food, another weakness, is no longer in my mind all the time... I actually ate some last week and it made me feel so gross I can't imagine eating it again for a long time. It all takes time... no magic cure for cravings, only changing eating habits and developing tastes for real, healthy food.

eat food. not too much. mostly plants.

hi guys!

my favorite way to curb cravings is to find a healthy food that you really like to serve as a similar but alternative food and always have that around in case you need to curb that craving! for instance if I'm craving ice cream, I make this guiltess ice cream recipe that takes 5 minutes! mysantamonicalife.wordpress.com/2013/01/29
/guiltless-ice-cream/

Sparkpeople and Chalean Extreme (beach body program) helped me lose over 40lbs in 2011 and since then I've kept the weight off! I just recently started this blog where I've been posting the recipes I use to stay at my goal weight. They are all boyfriend approved (for those of you with picky males in your lives) and very healthy. I like to use all natural ingredients and stay away from 99% of processed foods. Lastly, they are all simple and pretty quick as I don't have tons of time and money to spend!

I just wanted to share my blog with you guys in the hopes that you might find some unique and tasty recipes you haven't tried yet! thanks and good luck on your journeys everyone!

you can follow my blog here! mysantamonicalife.wordpress.com

thanks everyone!

I try to make it last. I won't say it always works but if it does every 3rd time, it's still worth the effort.

There've been a lot of articles about imagining you eat something before eating it can help you eat less. It really works. When I'm craving something bad, like pizza, I try to make a healthy version then really immerse myself in the experience of preparing and eating it. I do A LOT of food sniffing, particularly when someone leaves something tasty in the breakroom at work. I've successfully delayed giving in to cravings by just taking a couple deep breaths and enjoy the aroma.

I also make other compromises, giving in to the reasonable cravings so I can more easily ignore the worst ones. My morning smoothie almost always includes cocoa so I can control my chocolate cravings. I sometimes add peanut butter so I am not tempted by the Reese's cups that are always near the checkout registers.

It's all a process.

I cannot make myself be thin today, but I CAN be healthier by making a few smart choices. I focus on what needs to be done today and tomorrow takes care of itself.

You can complain because roses have thorns. Or you can rejoice that thorns have roses.—Ziggy

Thank you Sparkfriends for being my roses!
