Yes it's calories. Counting carbs is just a way to eat less total calories overall.
Google up "low carb" and find out if that lifestyle appeals to you. Some have success on it, but it's purely because it's lower calorie as well, nothing at all special about being particularly lower in carbs.
BTW, I see you posted this four times. Never use your 'back' button while on the message boards - it double-posts. It's a good idea to go visit those other three threads now and edit your post to say "sorry, double post" so that you don't get loads of replies in four different threads to keep track of. :)
