I have been drinking water with lemon almost everyday for the past few months. What has really made it simple was the purchase of this product called True Lemon. I found it on amazon and ordered the big 500 pack. To my bottles of lemon water I add stevia powder to sweeten it up and make it more palatable.

I have found that it is best to drink plain water during any strenuous strength training and cardio or a mix of 50/50 electrolyte (powerade, gatorade) solution and water. But that could just be me.

The addition of strength training has really accelerated my weight loss results. And in any type of strenuous exercise that produces sweat it is necessary to maintain a hydrated body; something that begins before exercise and continues during and after. For me lemon flavored water seems to act as a diuretic during strenuous exercise, and while I continue to drink it at other times, plain water (or the mix mentioned above) works best during strenuous exercise.

I don't watch Dr. Oz except for the few minutes that he is on before the 5 o'clock "news" comes on. (Typically I don't watch that--the news--either except for the weather report--which I can get online constantly.)

I added lemon juice to my water for a long time. I did it more for the taste..I liked it, there for, drank more. I don't think it helped me lose weight any faster.

If it helps you to drink your water that is great, but it is no magic cure for weight loss.

Personally it gives me horrible acid indegestion

Made it to my maintenance weight of 125 pounds.

Even though I have reached goal. I still don't know everything about weight loss.

Lemon is not a "natural diuretic"---it does not remove fluid from your system. Adding lemon to water does not bring about fluid loss by the body. This is a myth.

I'm really surprised nobody mentioned that lemon is a natural diuretic. So will you weigh less? Maybe, but it will be excess water that makes that happen.

Lemon is great just to pep up your water, but I doubt that it has any fat-burning effect.

I have to chime in on the Dr Oz nonsense, too. I had some respect for him as a clinician at first. But he's fallen from that into pure marketing now, and will seemingly espouse any theory he can sell a product upon. It's a shame, really... he has the background. Just not the backbone.

As for the lemon, I think (as others have already mentioned) that anything that helps you hydrate that doesn't add to your nutritional load is probably a good thing. Not taking it to extremes, naturally! It's a bit too bitter for me without some kind of mild sweetening... but there have been many times I've been in a restaurant with only soda or sugary drinks to choose from when I've asked simply for water with lemon - or, better yet, water with lemon and lime, and added just a pinch of table sweetener (sucralose) to it. When I've got my brain cells working, I try to bring along some of the water enhancer fluids to do the same with. OTOH - if the water isn't somehow "defective" (some systems have truly nastified water!), I'm content to just drink plain water, too.

Please do the rinse. I used to eat an orange daily. Then I continued to eat 4-5 a week for a year or so. Got huge gift box from my parents back to back and I love oranges.

Month or so later ...... my teeth started hurting. Had no idea what caused it. The dentist gave me special prescription toothpaste for sensitive teeth which I used over a year.

I got burnt out on oranges and didn't have one for about 4 months. It dawned on me one day that my teeth were no longer hurting. It had to have been the acid in them. When I talked to the dentist she agreed that had been the problem. Just be aware.

If you don't love yourself....how can you expect others to.

LIZKOLSTER said you should brush your teeth right after drinking lemon water because it is acidic. I believe the American Dental Association actually recommends NOT brushing right after eating/drinking anything acidic because brushing too soon can damage the enamel. Rinsing your mouth with plain water would be better.

I start my day with warm/hot water with about half a lemon in it almost everyday, and I'm not sure if it helps with weight loss, but it is a nice start to the day.

As OPUSEVA's link indicates, the whole acid/alkaline theory of foods is not scientifically valid.

Your stomach maintains its own acidity. If you eat anything that disrupts that acidity, it will self-regulate it back pretty quick and easy by the secretion of stomach acids.

It's not impotant to do anything about your stomach acidity, as nothing YOU can do will have any effect on it at all.

Lemon and hot water first thing in the morning has kick-started my spark program.

I have read that while acidic outside of the body, it sets up "the alkaline stomach" when digested. It is important to consume foods that mainain the alkaline stomach. Eating meat sets up an acid stomach -- which is one reason why it is important to limit meat to four or five times a week.

Here is an article about which foods are alkaline and which are acid:
www.livestrong.com/article/260853-which-fo
ods-are-acid-or-alkaline-in-the-stomach/

Here is an article about the dangers of going too far -- diet that is too alkaline can harm you.
metabolichealing.com/key-integrated-functi

I have also read that lemon juice acid dissolves teeth enamel -- to its very important to brush teeth right after that lemon drink.

I have a Dr. Oz diet book that I picked up at a thrift store a while back. He talks about how we should eat 100% whole wheat instead of white, then he has some guy on his show that says we should not be eating wheat at all. Did he tell that guy that he begs to differ? NO! Of course not, he's making money.

I have a gullible co-worker who believes anything Dr. Oz says. I have "read" myriad things that are supposed to help with weight loss. Something you "have read" is not sufficient reason to follow that idea. Who said it? What were they pushing? Does anyone else say it? What do dietitians say?

Use some critical thinking on all your approaches to eating. Ask some tough questions. Do some research.

And you'll find that, as Dietitican Becky said, lemon water's only advantage is if you're replacing high calorie drinks with it, thereby cutting those calories out of your diet.

Water is great! Lemon makes it taste better! Neither does anything specifically to help in weight loss.

believe me, if there was a magical solution to weight loss, the whole world would of caught on by now, and no one would be overweight. Ditto what everyone else is saying. If you can try to eliminate as many processed foods as you can and stay within your calorie range, you will be lose fat and be healthier.

BTW, I stopped watching Dr. Oz when I realized that he was all about making $$$$

Dr. Oz is horrible. He pushes the idea that if you just do one small trick, you will be super-fit, and healthy.

Nothing is simpler than to exercise, and eat healthier. There are no miracles. If you eat healthier, you will consume less calories, and lose weight. Exercise will build muscle, and you will burn more calories throughout the day. More weight loss.

You can argue how to stick to a healthy diet, or what exercise to do, but as far as I can tell, these are the only 2 things that work for everyone.

Eat in range. Move Butt. Lose weight.

Nothing you put in your body will burn fat. Fat is burned through your body's regular metabolic processes, and exercise. What you put in your belly won't help or hurt the process in any way.

And on the other side, your body isn't a toilet. It can't be flushed. What you eat and drink goes through exactly the same filtration system as everything else: your liver and kidneys.Toxins are removed from your body precisely the same no matter what "cleanse" or "detox" you're on. Simply put, you can't detox yourself. your body is already perfectly equipped to remove the things from your body that can hurt it, and you can't help it. The only "cleanse" that works is switching to a clean diet, and that's just about eating healthier... it doesn't flush anything from your system.

Lemon water may be a tasty way to stay hydrated, but that's ALL it is. It can't help you lose weight, unless you're replacing high-calorie beverages or snacks with it. There is no credible scientific evidence that detoxes work in any way. In fact, the more extreme ones can be actively dangerous to your health!

Ive tried it before. I would drink 32 ounces a day with a 50/50 cut. Thats a potent dose for beginners. You should start with a 25% cut(25% lemon juice/75% water). Stay close to the toilet the first couple of days. After the third day your body will get used to it and adjust.

As far as burning fat I wouldnt know because I was already on a diet. Many people will suggest to drink it warm, but thats almost impossibble because of its bitter taste. I could only drink it cold, and when I was really thirsty. Like after a long walk, or when I woke up in the morning.

The acid in lemons does not flush out toxins, nor does it burn off fat.

Lemon water would benefit weight loss, "only" if you are using it as a replacement for calorie containing foods or beverages. Then you would be cutting out calories from your typical daily intake.

lol...well, it certainly isn't bad for you, but water is healthy and lemons are healthy, and if you eat and drink healthy you will likely lose extra pounds...but that can be said for many, many foods. If lemon in your water helps you drink more water, then mission accomplished I suppose :)

Water is good for you, and being hydrated is important for overall health. What makes you think lemon water will help weight loss, any more than just water?
