This really depends on your needs and personal preferences.
If you're going for a 30 minute walk at 2.5 miles per hour, then you don't really need to fret over it. You're not doing enough to really push into issues. :)
But if you're powering through an hour of boot camp or Zumba, you might find that you do better with a light breakfast before you go in.
I've found I do best with both. I drink a protein shake or grab a banana on the way to the gym, work out (because I'm generally there for more than an hour, working out pretty hard) and then eat a good balanced breakfast after.
If I don't, I hit the wall, and can't continue through a hard workout.
But on light days, I don't need to.
Experiment with what works for you. There is no optimal answer (and no, you won't burn more fat on an empty stomach) so do what works for you and your body!
