I have been this way for years. I had bloodwork done twice last year. All the tests were normal. Since I have given it some thought, I may just try to decipher if I'm thirsty, bored, or just doing it because it is there.

A visit to see your doc and get a check up with some bloodwork might be in order if you feel the need to drink so much water. My husband always drank a lot, even when he was younger. He thought that he just liked to drink a lot, thought that it was just habit, just what he liked... Turns out that he had diabetes. He probably had it for at least 10 years before it was diagnosed, maybe even longer.

For a "healthy" adult....
the general rule of---drink when you are thirsty---works well.
Become more conscious of your fluid needs during intense exercise, laboring in hot, humid environment, etc.

No, it's not right.

There is no set rule that relates to your weight. That may be a useful guideline for most average people, but it is going to get weird for the very obese! So a 400lb person needs 200oz (25 glasses) of water daily? No way!!!

These "take your weight and do x with it" rules are never very applicable to anyone but a mid-range average weight person.

I just heard at a class the other day that in order to be "well hydrated" you should have this amount of liquid per day:

your weight/2 = the amount of ounces of liquids that you should drink in a day. That's like 95 oz for me a day.

I would be in the bathroom all day...does this seem right?

"Will you love the 'you' you hide if I but call your name? Will you quell the fear inside and never be the same? Will you use the faith you've found to reshape the world around, through my sight and touch and sound in you and you in me?"

Before I would look to water as the source of my bloating, I would first look to my food. Do you eat out a lot? Do you eat a lot of prepackaged meals? Boxed stuff, even if it's healthy?

Sodium is the biggest culprit for me when I'm feeling bloating and uncomfortable. If you're overdosing on sodium, that could also explain why you're constantly thirsty.

That is an awful lot though; I think a trip to see the doc wouldn't be amiss.

I would say thirst but not insatiable. I have just always consumed a lot of liquid. These days its water. Maybe its part habit....

Unident brings up a good point.
If you are experiencing insatiable thirst, call your doctor and schedule a check up.
If it is just habit/bordom---then you should focus on cutting back some for your comfort.

Could be, yes.

Do you drink so much because of an insatiable thirst, or just out of boredom or habit?

I drink ALOT. As I just finished a 16.9 ounce bottle of water (in one drink) , I just wondered what affect so much fluid has on my body. Often, not having enough is the problem. In the last hour, I drank 48 ounces of water. The day is only half over. Wonder if that is why I'm always bloated!!
