It IS possible that what your doctor said was, quit snacking. But what he meant was, quit snacking on the wrong kind of stuff. For example, half a cup of ice cream and a few cookies wouldn't be good. But a couple peanut butter crackers would be okay. Sometimes what we hear is not what someone meant.
In any case, I think a referral to a diabetes educator or registered dietician would be a good idea. Most insurance will pay for it, as your diet has a great deal to do with how well your diabetes is managed.
