this is not a new fad unfortunately women health issue aren't look at the same way as mens.
being on medicines for to long can led to it, as well as too much sugar and starch, soy has been linked to a lot of health issues as well.
you can have an overgrowth without being deathly ill too, systems can include gas, bloating similar to IBS symptoms nothing to play with.

I used to get yeast infections all the time until I cut way back on sugar and starches. I never get them anymore.

I've also read that too many fermented foods may be a contributor to candida overgrowth.

Candia is very real and LOVE4KITTIES I WAS REALLY, REALLY SICK to the point I could barley walk, slept most of the time, had severe headaches, foggy brain to the point I wanted to shoot my head off my body....no one could diagnose me until I went to a Infectious Disease specialist. Yep really really sick!

As a person who had systemic candida and I was very, very ill. It was cause by being overly medicated. Candida diets do help....no nightshades, no sugar, no bread, no pasta...yes that's just part of what I had to omit from my diet....I had none of those for over a year. Then when I was diagnosed pre-diabetic and ate low carb low glycemic, not only did I lose weight, I got well.

I contacted the Candida Wellness Center...to get their book back then now you can download it from their site
www.thecandidayeastanswer.com/page/page/24
74693.htm

They do tout products, however I never used them....just got a better understanding of candida

I also read The Yeast Connection by William G. Crook which was also very helpful

For anyone who wants to get educated on the subject....please see the link and read the book....diet high in sugar will stimulate an overgrowth within the intestines

I did not know then what I know now...
A diet high in sugar will stimulate an overgrowth within the intestines
Recurring yeast infections could be a sign of pre-diabetes
Prolonged use of antibiotics can set you up for Candida
Misuse of over the counter medications as well

Women with recurrent infections should seek medical help, as there could be additional reasons for the infection....

Yes, I still take probiotics and anyone who is on any meds should take a probiotic as well as their meds to insure the meds don't kill all the good bacteria in your system...

The candida thing is a fad in the health food world right now.

Do you actually HAVE a yeast infection or is your NP just making this assumption?

Cutting out bread, yeast and sugar might make sense, but cutting out your main protein source (soy) is probably not going to work too well.

I don't believe in "candida diet" at all. HOWEVER, I do believe in the use of probiotics as a means of combating just about all the symptoms that are generally referred to as part of candida overgrowth. Are you taking any already?

Asking a vegan to cut out so much without any acknowledgement of nutritional needs does not strike me as very enlightened.

Calling an ND's diagnosis pseudoscience is offensive. And assuming an MD would offer a "real diagnosis" may be overstated.

Thanks for the advice - have an appointment with my family doctor next week. However, over this past year he's been helpful with suggestions or referrals. In the past I've had more success with diagnosis and treatment by NP, Chiropractor and Registered Massage Therapists than with conventional medicine. Will research the Registered Dietician and see if we have one in our area.

While there are many some complementary and alternative medicine techniques that are beneficial; an anti-candida diet is "not" one of these. Now... being referred to a Regiatered Dietitian for a complete nutrition assessment and "healthy diet" adjustments regarding food selections, balance of protein, fats, carbs; vitamin, minerals, fiber---can be very helpful in improving overall health.

This is the direction I would suggest.

If you truly had systemic candidiasis (or overgrowth of Candida in your body), you would be really, really sick. People typically don't get that sort of thing unless they are immunosuppressed (e.g. people with AIDS or other severe illnesses, on chemotherapy or immunosuppressing drugs). Although your ND has been highly recommended and seems to listen better, I would advise you to see a MD to get a real diagnosis (based upon something other than pseudoscience) and appropriate treatment.

Candida is a yeast fungus and eating a low glycemic diet just like a diabetic will help issues with candida. Some say Candida is a pre-cursor to pre-diabetes and diabetes. In my case, I did have candida and became pre...diabetic...Go see an Endocrinoligist since they are experts in metabolic issues....you could be pre-diabetic....and not know it.Candida can destroy your health as it interferes with digestion and food nutrients...difficulty in absorbing what you eat. Candida can proliferate into the organs...destroy the pancreas which controls blood sugar levels...If you truely think you have candida go see a doctor who specializes in Infectious Disease...they will take blood tests to setermine what kind of Candida Albicans you have and how to treat it...

A healthy stir-fry combines with non-starchy vegetables. Start by sautéing a colorful mix of vegetables (like onions, bell peppers, snow peas, carrots, and broccoli) over medium-high heat..Drizzle your stir-fry with, sesame oil, Olive oil or chili sauce.

Avoid pasta, rice, anything white and strachy, sweet corn, mushrooms because they are a fungus, no wine, no beer either....just to mention a few....

Have been told that beans and Tofu (because it's soy) are not permitted. As a Vegan, I don't eat or use any animal products, including eggs or honey.

Guess I'll just have to live on my Vega shakes and smoothies for a while. Thanks for the advice y'all have given.

Nuts and seeds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, flax... oils (though peanuts are advised against), coconut oil is an anti-fungal.
VEGETABLES. Low sugar fruits...?

Can you have beans? Tofu?

As a vegan, do you eat free range and humanely raised chicken eggs?

LAURAMARIEW1... was given something similar to take plus take herbal called "Triphala". But my concern is what is left for a Vegan to eat while on the diet?

I was told I have the same issue. My doctor recommended a product called Candigone. Its a pill and a liquid and you follow a diet for 15 days. I purchased mine at the healthfood store, but you can pretty much get it anywhere. After 3 days, it took away the bloat and uncomfortable feeling. By the end of day 15 I lost 8 pounds(mainly water weight). But I feel better. It might not work for everyone, but it helped me.

OPUSEVA... thanks for your advice. She does seem to listen more to me and seems to be trying to help so much more than my regular doctor. We've tried different things and are using acupuncture and have tried eliminating several things from my already restricted Vegan diet. She came highly recommended.

Find a better doctor. It is EXTREMELY UNLIKELY that you have "Candida overgrowth". This is a favorite "diagnosis" that is used on people who don't know better, based on some vague symptoms and bogus testing.

I've just been told by my ND that I should do the diet of Candida overgrowth. I've had a look at this diet and as a Vegan, it doesn't seem to have much that I can eat - it seems to tell me to avoid all the good foods that I've been eating. Any help would be appreciated
