Welcome to SP! Some people have good luck in starting by planning a time every day to read articles on SP and learn. Take the quizzes, read message boards, and plan your daily, physical activities. Plan your activity time, Plan your meals. Fail to plan, plan to fail.
The most important thing is to get moving!!! Choose activities which fit into your healthy lifestyle, fitness goals, financial situation (don't go into debt to join a fitness club!), and interests. Choose activities you enjoy, and do it daily. Walking is a great way to start. Try to find a friend to do it with you.
Start using the food tracker. This may be your most valuable tool on SP. Read other threads from other "newbies" and find what others have advised.
Choose some part of your diet to omit that you are willing to do for the rest of your life. Examples abound such as choose light salad dressing instead of heavy. Have 1 % milk on cereal instead of whole milk. Add 1/2- 1 cup fresh, canned, or frozen fruit with that. Avoid fast food restaurants except for once per month (or something like that, we go 4 times per year!) Skip snacking, or alternatively, cut meals in 1/2 and spread your meals out throughout the day (I eat 1/2 sandwich at noon, and the other around 3 PM).
Keep reading articles and message boards. You will find tons of support, ideas, information, and information.
