too much sugar in soy??? the last time i checked there was not any sugar in soy. some soy milks might have added sugar, but i am pretty sure there are unsweetened out there [i know almond milk has unsweetened available, it just doesn't have a lot of protein].

to much sugar in soy for me. The egg beaters added to the regular egg has helped much! I make it through till bed without being hungry -- unless I get to tired. The rice was an odd texture to add to eggs -- brain thing I guess. Anyone happen to think of anything else chime in. :) Mary Jo

Protein doesn't always mean animalor an animal byproduct. Soy milk, or soy anything, as well as beans and lentils as others have said. I'd check out this article with protein and fat info broken down by food group. http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutrition_articles.asp?id=158

Have not forgotten the dark leafy greens! I love the stuff! A large plate every day is such a treat. I remember once a weight loss speaker asked the group who would sit and eat an entire bunch of lettuce?? So why would you sit and eat an entire bag of chocolate. I thought, oh boy, I'm in trouble. Cause I would sit in front of the TV an eat an entire bunch of lettuce, or a bag of spinach, or crisp juicy romain, or those living heads of lettuce you can buy now. :)

I get my protein from a Formula1 shake with protein power add, and it feels me up and gives me lots of energy. I have two shakes a day and one sensible meal for dinner. And I feel great all day and I am never hungry.

I am trying to live a healthy life for me and my family. I have changed my eating habits and I feel great.

Dark leafy greens also have protein in them. Seems that no one mentioned those. Being vegan raw, I don't eat meat (normally) nor do I do dairy. I normally don't do lentils either (just don't like the taste). The dark leafy greens may not come super high on the protein grams, but know that the protein that you are getting from them are much better used by the body. As far as I know, the dark leafy greens do not have fat.

Have considered the what am I eating part -- this week is turning into an adventure in what to replace foods with. I was doing well and then a job change came a long that upped my activity level big time. I started being STARVED!!! I had upped my calories to accommodate the 14 miles a day I end up walking, not to mention the weight that gets lifted during the night. I'm positive I need more protein! I appreciate all the info everyone chipped in! Thank-you so much for the hep an encouragement. :)

one other thing to consider is that you don't need to find no fat protein sources, you need to look at the rest of what you are eating and cut down fat from there so that you will be in range. odds are that there are some other places you could cut fat to free up room to have protein that has fat in it.

I eat a lot of low fat cottege cheese and Greek yogurt. I also use powdered egg whites -- all protein, with no fats or carbs. I add the powdered egg white to smoothies and combine them with 1 whole egg white for scrambled eggs, omelets, etc.

I also eat a lot of tuna and salmon ... and sometimes snack on lean meat (with or without a little hummus) rather than traditional snack foods. Low fat cheese is another snack option.

Fat free Greek yogurt is loaded with protein and not fat. Beans are also a great source of both fiber and protein with minimal fat.

Barley has good protein. Barley cereal is good and it's high in fiber, low sodium, low Glycemic Index and zero trans fat....Quaker Oats sells Mother's Quick Cooking Barley and Bob’s Red Mill sells Rolled Barley Flakes and just cook it up like oatmeal.

Mix brown rice with 1 scrambled whole egg and 2 or three whites ... make the rice and egg the night before & reefrigerate. Then in the morning, heat it up in the microwave. Add chopped Walnuts for heart healthy benefits or Almonds.

Chicken, turkey, beans, peas, fish, cottage cheese, and peanut butter, parm cheese or Romano Cheeses,Fage 0% plain Yogurt, flaxseeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds

I'm a little over whelmed. I can see that I need to eat more protein but most of the time that adds fat. So what sources of protein are there that do not ad fat? Meal ideas are not usually a problem. Since I know my time is always short I freeze meals into individual servings to grab and go on the days I can cook full meals. Breakfasts are a problem for me, and snacks. I need ideas!
Thanks!!
Mary Jo
