Thankyou Becky for your input. All the foods I love the most, like grains, veg and fruits all have lots of fibre. I'll try and make sure not to go over the 50gram limit. I do have reflux at times and eat small amounts 4 times a day to get my calories all in and this seems to help..

Too high a fiber intake can bring about "tummy trouble" with some folks and can decrease nutrient absorption. Therefore the upper limit for fiber intake is set at 50 grams for the healthy adult. Our program is set at the recommended intake amount of 25-35 grams for adults. But if you are in the 40-50 gram range, this is still not above the upper tolerance amount. Sounds like you would be fine, especially if you do not have any GI medical issues.

However, if someone was truely getting about 100 grams daily---that could be a concern.

I never have worried about it in the past as I never really tracked it. I did some reading and some folks claim to eat upwards to 100 grams or more without ill effect. I'm in the 40 to 50 grams a day, so I shall choose to not worry also.

I was mainly curious what others think about this. Thanks for your input!

I've encountered this problem, but I don't worry about it...I eat alot of high fibre fruits and veggies, and sometimes my numbers are over my fibre limit, but the few times I was super high my body let me know and I cut back. On one occasion, I wolfed down 7 or 8 dried prunes over a day with predictable results so now I know :) I wouldn't lose sleep over the numbers if I were you unless you started ignoring your body's feedback.

If you bring forth that which is within you, that which is within you will save you. If you do not bring forth that which is within you, that which you do not bring forth will destroy you.

I have eaten a high fibre diet most of my adult life and have had no problems with it.

I decided to track my fibre intake and Spark keeps telling me I'm over the high end of 35 grams a day and to cut back a bit. I eat alot of vegetarian style foods and it's hard to get below the 35 grams and keep my calories up over the 1300 level.

Is there anyone else who has encountered this and do you worry about it?
