You are completely correct and actually my son IS on SP already. My husband is naturally thin and loves to run....I do not want to feed them this food that will cause them all sorts of problems down the line. I will take what you say to heart.....because it is truly time for a change. Thanks for the honesty.

You should not be enabling their poor eating choices. If you do, they'll one day find themselves on Spark People too, desperately trying to lose the weight they gained shoveling pancakes and bacon down their throats. If they want to eat crap let them... but let them prepare it themselves.

I do eat pancakes for breakfast; I make them using whole-wheat flour (often with oatmeal too), bananas, egg whites, skim milk, etc. I also make healthy whole-grain muffins, breakfast casseroles with veggies and egg whites, and overnight oats.

Stats: Female, 5'4", 28 years old.

Goal: From 152 (07/24/2011) to 125 by December, 2011. DONE! December 4th weighed in at 124. In 2012 I've been maintaining around 122, which is a thirty pound loss. My BMI has gone from 26.1 to 20.9 since following the Spark plan!

NICE! I love the idea of trying to not have "breakfast foods" that would give me a lot more options too! Thanks!

I personally dislike "breakfast food" for breakfast. I realize some people are kind of stuck on breakfast foods only though at that time of day.

Maybe increase the fiber of the foods. Higher fiber muffins or granola might be a filling addition. recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipes.asp?food=m

Maybe you could try having lots of fruit and yogurt along with whole grain pancakes.

I think you could have black beans instead of sausage in them and it would be healthier, tasty and filling.

Oh wow! I didn't think about it that way. Yeah I agree they COULD and SHOULD make their own pancakes lol. But between my husband and our son I don't think the kitchen would EVER be the same again lol. I will also try to include them in the meal planning and the cooking. Thanks for the ideas!

Oh all of that sounds wonderful. I think I just need to keep pushing other stuff on them and just stop with the pancakes all together for a while. We will see....but I love the suggestions! Thanks!

Well no offense, but can't they make their own pancakes? It's not like it's a difficult thing to make especially if you're using a mix, and they should feel bad that you're having to make 2 different meals just to satisfy their wants. There are also lots of recipes floating around out there for healthier pancakes that involve stuff like oatmeal and whole grain flour. You can also try mixing different things in them.... like blueberries in yours, and chocolate chips in theirs if they don't want blueberries. They can also be topped with lots of different fruits. Same can go for waffles, if you have a waffle iron.

Omelettes are actually a good idea though, because you can put your veggies in yours, and put what they want in theirs. You can also bake muffins with lots of different things in them.... healthier batch for you, and whatever works for them in theirs. That would save you time in the morning too.

- Oatmeal (you can do it overnight in the slowcooker on "keep warm" setting)
- Fritatta
- Scrambled eggs with veggies and multi-grain toast
- Mini-quiches made in muffin tins

Honestly though, if they don't want anything other than pancakes and won't eat a healthy version, there is nothing we can propose that will make a difference.

Well lately I have been making 2 different meals each meal time. They seem to want pancakes EVERYDAY! I like veggie omlets, smoothies and oatmeal. They don't want anything I make by itself cause they always want pancakes. I tried making some healthier pancakes once and they just looked at my vegan pancakes as if they were aliens. Smh. I am lost now.

What kinds of things do you currently make? That will help w/ suggestions.

I have a "bottomless pit" BF and I just make extra servings of whatever it is I make. I have 1 serving, he has 2. That sort of thing.
