That may be all that they said ...

There IS a myth out there, some people are saying it, that fat "turns into" muscle. That's why I responded that way. Perhaps that wasn't quite the impression they tried to give, though. :)

I think I mis-typed. I am not under the impression that fat is actually BECOMING muscle by any means, but that I am losing fat and acquiring muscle and muscle weighs more in a smaller area than fat does.

"I've been told that it's likely that fat is turning to muscle,"

You want to challenge that.

Fat cannot turn into muscle. They are two different body tissues.

You can lose fat. And you can gain muscle. But then again, you normally cannot do both at once and I highly doubt CrossFit is a program for that - talk to a body sculptor if that's what you desire.

In actuality, you're probably losing fat but retaining some water. Water shows on the scale, but not in inches. Check your measurements - are you losing pant sizes?

I would seriously question any professional fitness expert who vocalised "Your fat is turning into muscle".

It's definitely frustrating, MARAJAKE! I've been told that it's likely that fat is turning to muscle, so the scale might not pick up on the changes, even though our bodies are definitely getting more fit!

Crazy! I've been doing CF for a month and haven't lost any weight either! What's that about? I know my body is changing somewhat, but I'm ready to see some improvement on the scale. CF is a buttkicker!

I live by my HRM and I also do major intense workouts. I could not live without it. I love the polar http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12194241&010=SKU-11341715&003=4239056&camp=CSE:GooglePLA:12194241

Any of the polar line are amazing and last forever. Try ebay first you can probably find one for half that price. I have no motivation for working out if I forget my monitor! They rock!

Thanks CMSLOCUM. I'll compare that with what I get for Vigorous Calisthenics, which is what I had been recording it as and see if there's a difference.

Thanks Coach! Any HRM recommendations? I've been researching and am slightly overwhelmed by the options!

Crossfit is quite intense, but there is also a limit to how intensely a human can work out. You can be equally as intense with literally any other form of exercise if you have someone pushing you enough.

If you think it's burning more than the way you're tracking it now, check out what an equal time of "High impact aerobics" would get you. You don't get much more intense than that - full body movement with leaping and jumping. See if there's much difference to your recommended nutritional range if you set your goal up as if you burn as many as the tracker says for that activity.

You might find there's little difference.

I do CF too and I use Circuit Training (like Bootcamp) for my tracking. I haven't lost any weight but my body composition has changed dramatically. We weigh about the same (I am at 5'4"and 129). I am thinking of changing my workouts to 3-4 CF days and then some cardio on the days in between. Thoughts?

The heart rate monitor is your best bet. You might also look to other sites for calories loss calculations.

You could try using something like circuit training in the database, although it's hard to know whether or not that would be a fair comparison. If possible, your best bet is to wear a heart rate monitor to more accurately estimate your calories burned.

Hope that helps,

Coach Jen

Hi all!

I'm not sure if my current calorie intake recommendations are accurate since there's no way to track high-intensity Crossfit exercise accurately here. I've been at the same weight for a month and I'm not sure if it's because I'm eating too few calories for the type of exercise I'm doing.

Any advice?
