I actually cooked a healthy meal of oatmeal with brown sugar and cranberries for lunch today! It's very tempting to just eat easy stuff like canned foods or a sandwich for lunch, but this nutritious meal kept me full and energized for the rest of my school day!

Going to round out my 500 fitness calories by getting on the tread mill at lunch - have about 70 calories or less than 20 minutes to go to reach my 500 goal for the day
~ Change your perspective and you will change your life ~
I was able to do a plank during last nights' workout with my trainer! This was an impossible exercise for me seven weeks ago when I started working out! This was more than just a small victory for me...this gave me such a sense of accomplishment!

making trough a super tough week and still getting in all my fitness minutes! Woo Hoo!!!
Turning down those doughnuts worked. Lost 3.2kg and 11cm this month. Yay. Thought I would celebrate a little at morning tea time and brought myself a custard pastry with icing to eat. Ate about half and threw the rest away - too sweet (Yuck). Now my stomach is playing up. Flip side is it makes my apricots and almonds look pretty good - think I'll stick to them.
Just turned down the doughnuts, muffins, sausage rolls and mini pies at morning tea that someone brought in as a shout. instead ate my 5 almonds and 3 dried apricots - very happy with myself. Wish me luck its weigh in and measurement day at the gym tomorrow morning.

i just reached for an apple instead of the extra large chocolate chip choclate muffins (with choclate drizzle) my co-worker brought in from the local bakery. I'm not even a chocolate fan but pre-diet I would have had 1 (most likely 2) anyways!
Great job everyone! Yesterday I made kale chips and today I ate beets(something I used to hate). I am trying to fill up on veggies and lean protein instead of carbs(my usual go to) and today I did that successfully!

Just over a month ago I began a low-carb lifestyle (paleo style). I was sceptic but I am seeing the results! Today I broke the 160lbs barrier (current weight at 159!), which means I lost 16lbs so far!
People are beginning to notice too - even hubby keeps asking for a twirl-around to check me out with approval!
It feels nice to wear clothes that fit again and the compliments from friends and colleagues are great boosters!

I just got back from a 10 day vacation where I gained 3.9 lbs but I walked my full 5 miles today and broke a sweat and drank my water and I feel terrific and glad to be back on track. The real victory is that it feels good to be back on track and not like a deprive - how fabulous is that.
Just now I turned down food that I really wanted because it's just too many calories for a late night snack. Sitting here smelling it is torture.... but I can do this.

Yesterday, I didn't exercise and today I "Race Walked" 6 consecutive miles & burned 566 calories. That's a 1 mile increase from the usual 5 consecutive miles I do daily.
However, that's not my small victory...that would be, NOT kicking myself because I missed a day of exercise. Instead, I recommitted myself to exercise daily & made it happen .

I use the pedometer from the spark people store. Last I saw it was on sale for $13. I like it; it's simple, has a 7 day memory, tells you steps, miles, and calories burned. It's omron which is a good brand (they also make like blood pressure monitors, etc which I recommend when people ask which brand to buy).

I use a "New Lifestyles Digi-walker" (My model is the SW-200, but it's older so there may be a newer version). It was reasonably priced, highly rated for accuracy, works great. The battery is replaceable. I am very happy with it. I wear it every day and it really helps me be aware of how many steps I am taking. Just wearing it makes you want to do more steps. I'm sure there are many other good pedometers out there. Good luck!

I got to 205 today and I can apply for standard life insurance which I one of my goal. Next stop out of the 200. For the first tine I am really focusing on how unproductive yoyo dieting is. I do not want to go through the effort of relying the small lbs over and over.
At church today someone asked are you getting smaller?? And with big smile I said YES!!

Busy all day. Went for a 1 hour walk. Joined the 28 day boot camp challenge and did the first workout and gardened for 3 hours this afternoon. Downside is I don't think I've eaten enough as I started getting a headache. Gone now that I've had tea but I should have upped my calorie intake today.

Just made it through a family reunion and didn't overindulge! I even skipped dessert! As a bonus, many people noticed I had lost weight. BIG VICTORY!
I just started back using this again, now that I can conveniently have it on my phone I so far am sticking with it and have had a couple of successful days of staying in range! Excited about doing this!

My small victory was to go out to dinner last night for a 4 course meal (excellent I might add) and not show any weight gain at all this morning when I weighed myself at the gym even though I had also eaten breakfast before I went. To counteract any possible weight gain from over indulging I kept strictly to plan yesterday before going out and not overdoing it on the calories. I also made sure I worked extra hard at the gym. I weighed myself yesterday (Friday for me as I live in NZ) and fully expected it to be well up after eating very well last night but was totally suprised when it said the same weight this morning. Hooray.

So far, resisting two different kinds of cake and garlic bread. Because I decided that the Low Carb thing was the way to go for me. And they're easy to pass up, as I don't even really have cravings for them anymore.
There must be a reward for this in Heaven or something.

I went on a field trip yesterday with all the 5th graders from my son's school. We went to Bass Hall and listened to the symphony. It was beautiful. The down side, all the seats were located on the 5th floor balcony. The upside, we walked up 5 flights of stairs and I was not huffing and puffing! Yeah me!

Hello reading your blog today is me made over. I started yesterday & have enjoyed every minute of this day, however I didn't talk myself into the exercise mode. I had a very sleepless nite last night & have walked to the end of my drive way 2 xs. This one little step I am proud of. I have a messed up sciatica from knee replacement in July. Looking forward to more success stories with you.
I think sometimes I have an unconscious an fear of success/failure... The 2 are linked like what if I loose all of this weight then cannot keep it off? So I succeed just to fail. I have these moments & if I try hard enough I can remember them like I am running on the treadmill & it just feels right. Gone are the whining muscles, the nagging joints the unhappy thoughts, "Oh GOD!!! 10 more minutes of this crap!! I feel like I cannot BREATH let alone keep GOING!! A moment wherein I know if I keep going & keep doing this I will reach my goal. So I quit going to the gym because deep down I am afraid of what I may or may not be capable of. It is easier to sit around saying, "Boy if I were that skinny I'd run a marathon too! I'd wear that dress in a heartbeat! I'd have more friends & we'd go to the dog park & talk about greek yogurt getting enough potassium in our diets!" etc.etc... Well what if I get "that skinny" & realize that running a marathon still might not be in the cards for me, we still cannot afford to dress me in all the nice things because we just don't have the money and we might not ever have enough money to keep me wearing the newest most beautiful things.. Loosing weight is not a barrier into a magical realm of happiness where everything goes my way. In the past it was disappointing to realize that loosing weight just makes me a skinnier version of me. I still have the same body "flaws" they are just smaller. My life is still a product of the choices I have made. It is not like I am going to get to my goal weight, step off the scale, then jog to the Kwik-Fill for my deserved Multi-Million dollar winning lottery ticket. I realized this all this may seem small but look @ all the ads we see. Thin woman in a beautiful house, smiling under a pile of happy looking kids, jogging in some gorgeous scenic place in work-out clothes that probably cost what my entire wardrobe cost, then out to eat with all of her girlfriends none of which look like they have a care in the world. I was born & raised on a dairy farm. We were below poverty. We did not have much contact with the "outside" world. We got bags of hand me down's & wore those to school. We often smelled of barn because the clothes line was right next to the barn door. The only thing I saw of the outside world was pictures in ladies magazines @ the grocery-store check out. I really thought that that is the way people (who are not me) live. If I get as skinny as them that is the 1st step the rest will follow. Well that is not how it happens. I don't want to loose weight to be someone that I am not. I want to loose weight & be happy with a smaller me. I had one of those moments today. I was walking @ a fast pace. It was a long walk. I was sweating & the back of my shirt kept wading up under my backpack but I realized that my joints were not complaining, my muscles were working & felt good to be doing so. I did not have to stop & stretch because my hip-flexures, calves and back were painfully tight. I knew that if I kept walking day after day that my physical body would improve and I would get to my goal weight eventually. In that moment I accepted that it would take longer than I wanted it too. When I got there I would still be me & still have the same life I would just be physically smaller. It would be easier to fit into my 2nd hand/good will clothes because I chose people not money & thats better than OK.

Have only been doing this for a few weeks. I'm a big believer that it takes several weeks (6, 12, depends on who you talk to) for habits to form. For me, right now in the beginning of this, daily, consistent practice is necessary for me to "set" these habits.
Consistency is difficult for me, especially on days like today where I don't feel my best. I'm not so much tempted by poor food choices as I am by my chronic fatigue; which makes me want to just crawl in bed and sleep. Today I was completely tempted to not fulfill my daily exercise goals. The old cruddy thinking started to take over...rationalizing. "It's ok not to do exercise, I worked so hard yesterday." Or, "A single day off won't hurt anything. I deserve a break." Or, "My energy level is really poor today. Not exercising and taking a break will make me feel better."
My small victory for today? I went and did it anyway. I'm not sure what has changed within me, or what was going through my mind when I ignored all of my rationalizations and got on that bike. What I do know? My energy level is better. My mental outlook is better. And I'm incredibly proud of myself for not giving in. I know that consistency is my problem, and setting these "habits" is going to be my biggest hurdle. Today I worked towards my goals, despite my negative thinking that sabotages my efforts. That is my small victory.

My weight-loss journey (re)began September 17, 2012. ...fall down seven times, get up eight!
its all about little victories - like dancing while walking the dog or skipping the dip with the chip (I'm a BIG fan of slices of butter on tortilla chips . . . oh yeah . . . . easy 2 tbs of butter for a snack!! and I wonder why the scale creaps up . . . .) today it was NO fries with the burger, veggies instead. HE is not happy . . .
If people only ate when they felt true hunger, few of us would struggle with our weight. So why (and where) are we eating so much, and what can we do about it? Start here.
