If you like protein and don't like meat, look to India for inspiration. They are a nation where being vegetarian is the norm and restaurants that serve meat are so rare they are called "Non-Vegetarian Restaurants" in much a way vegetarian restaurants are noted here. They have developed a complex variety of vegetarian cuisine - some popular vegetarian dishes include Masala Dosa and Channa Masala, must-tries if you go to an Indian restaurant. When cooking at home, it's easy to cook a 'dal' or lentil dish. My favorite type of dal is Masoor, an orange lentil that turns yellow when cooked. All you have to do is add water and a pinch of turmeric, bring to a boil, reduce to simmer to cook it through. When almost done, add flavoring such as minced garlic, chopped tomatoes and cook until soft and mushy. When ready to serve, saute some fat (ghee, butter, coconut oil, or vegetable oil) with a little bit of your favorite spices (I like cumin seed, mustard seeds, chopped green chiles and fresh curry leaves) and pour this sizzling mix on the dal. Serve with chopped cilantro and/or lemon juice if desired. But really you can just boil the dal and it still tastes good. A good simple cookbook for vegetarian Indian cooking is "New Indian Home Cooking" by Madhu Gadia.

I don't eat meat either but I love greek yogurt with some fresh fruit thrown in. I wasn't having enough protein either and now that is my go to snack. Also I get frozen berries and add Greek yogurt and a little almond milk for the right consistency for a smoothie. Really yummy way to get protein!

These are all great ideas and suggestions! Particularly, edamame and quinoa, as I think they'd most appeal to someone who enjoys veggies so much. However, don't stop trying the things you "hate" because it's very likely your tastes are going to change the more you make changes to your diet. You may find you develop a taste/liking for things you thought you hated. I used to hate both red bell peppers and plain yogurt. The more I tried them, however, the more I developed a taste for them, and now I love them both! I usually eat them in some form every day, and they are now staples of my diet. Just keep trying new things and new recipes, even if they incorporate something you don't like so well.

recipes make a world of difference - 1 of my faves is easy tacos - take a small outside round roast, cut off the excess fat, place in a slow cooker and cover with salsa - cook on low for 10 - 12 hours, then shred the meat with a couple forks and cook for another 30 minutes while you prepare the fixings - onion, bell pepper, tomato, shredded lettuce, grated cheese. I like whole wheat soft tortillas for building my tacos - start with the cheese then add the meat, followed by everything except the lettuce, add a bit of sour cream, then the lettuce, roll it up and enjoy! With using round roast it is very lean and a small roast will be enough for 8 to 10 large tacos.

I love my dark chocolate almond Kashi bars. They have 6 g of protein and it has fiber, too. I also eat a slice of 2% cheese it has anywhere from 5-7 g of protein. Skim milk is another option. You get 8 grams there. I love certain Greek yogurts, too. Chobani has a good pineapple and blood orange. I like Dannon's blueberry, strawberry and cherry. My kids just had some greek Yoplait coconut and loved it. Those are all going to get you about 12 proteins. I'm not a big meat eater either. I won't do protein shakes. I like it more natural. Good luck and happy eating, rumbamel

Luna bars are yummy and I think they have about 9 grams of protein. Milk, soy milk, almond milk, cheese and yogurt are also good sources of protein. If you like fruit you could make a smoothie with yogurt and fruit of your choice.

if you really want to eat mostly fruits and veggies, just start paying attention to which fruits and veggies you choose. 100 g of baked potato has 2 g protein. a cup of chopped raw broccoli has 3 g protein. well, per 100 g serving, here you go for veg nutritiondata.self.com/foods-0110780000000 00000000-w.html and if you can find a few foods that you like that have some protein in them, work around that with a higher protein source that you might not like as much. so let's say you like baked potatoes. again, a 100 g baked potato is going to give you 2 g protein. so since you like veggies, you're going to cook up some of whatever you like, then mix them up with 1/4 cup of dried lentils [already cooked], some curry powder and a little milk or water. the 1/4 cup of lentils will give you 9 g protein. if you're eating a cup of veg, that's going to be another few grams, bringing your meal total up to around 15 g protein, and it's pretty much all veg. if you like pasta, most servings have 7 g protein. add in a cup of broccoli, and you're at ten grams protein. then add a curry/teriyaki/peanut/whatever flavor you like sauce to it and you're around 250 cals for 10 g protein.
-google first. ask questions later.

Diary products and eggs Whole grains Spinach You don't HAVE to stress too much about getting a TON of protein. You may find that your body does fine with less. I used to worry about not getting enough, but I aim for 50 grams per day, now. I don't always hit it, but you should be able to get 50 grams by eating a lot of fruits and vegetables. Like most things with diet and exercise, peoples bodies respond differently to foods that they eat. Some people find themselves ravenously hungry when they don't get a lot of protein. Some don't. Some people cannot lose weight unless they eat low carbs. Other people eat plenty of carbs and manage to lose weight. Don't be afraid to experiment to find what works best for you.

I do eat all of them at some point or another because I know that they are good for you but I don't particularly enjoy eating them. I love all fruits & vegetables but I really need to get more protein in my diet. Maybe I just need to find some really good recipes!
