I got the coconut kind and I thought they were good, and they didn't bother my stomach. They did make my hungrier than usual.

Ginny - I tried those Atkins bars for awhile. I will admit a few are actually tasty believe it or not, but the sugar alcohols in them do some mean things to your body. I do have a sensitive system, but I have read about other people having the same problem. Stomach aches, cramps, etc. I overall felt bloated and yucky. You can always give them a try. Some stores sell single bars. Just be aware of the stuff that is in them.

These are junk food. I still will eat them in a pinch or to help with my sweet tooth, but I am fully aware that they are garbage.

I eat fairly low carb, and still have a sweet tooth. This can usually be satisfied with diet soda or berries. Atkins bars are not as good as eating some cheese and fruit for a quick sweet snack, but still better than a Snickers bar.

I will sometimes take one on a bike ride with me so I have something compact and easy to eat in the middle of a long ride. Most nutrition bars for exercising are packed full of so much sugar that they are worse than candy, so I consider this a healthIER alternative to the carb bombs I could be eating. But I am aware that it is still essentially garbage that I am getting away with because I am also exercising!

I have a MAJOR sweet tooth and used these whilst I was getting out of the habit of eating chocolate bars, cakes etc. I limited myself to one a day, then two days etc and eventually, the craving subsided.

They aren't all bad compared to a bar of chocolate, they are much healthier.

If you can though, stick to non-processed foods.

I was recommended sweet potatoes, garlic, celery, cucumber and cinnamon to help curb the sweet cravings.

Only time will tell!

I got a free sample one.

It was disgusting.

Let alone the price of these things... chemical crap with a brand label.

Just eat some real, edible and tasty food instead.

I just started trying Atkins 10 days ago. (I've been plateaued for a year and read one too many studies saying Atkins actually does work and is healthy - so I thought I would try it for a couple of weeks.) I normally avoid sugar (except when I don't) but am driven by cravings pretty much all the time so I think carbs are a big issue for me. I was skeptical about the bars and normally would not eat anything with an ingredient list like that; but I'm really busy and I wanted to have some backup in case I didn't have the right stuff with me and could stay on plan for a couple of weeks to see if this works. So I've been having a bar every few days. I don't find they feed my craving issues. They are filling. Maybe a little bit laxative. I think they're like training wheels. You can have them while you're getting used to the new way of thinking about food, and then as something in the cupboard for an emergency, but they probably are not going to be central to the long-term plan.

Personally, I wouldn't go with the bars/meal replacements. You can make fresh, whole food snacks instead of buying overpriced chemical-laden "convenience" food.

I tried the bars, and gained weight whenever I did. I stick to whole foods, and only subtract the fiber. I eat 30 NET carbs a day, all from vegetables, or cheese 2-3 times a week. If I stick to low glycemic veggies, I can fit in 6-8 servings a day, plus about a lb of meat in a stir fry.

The bars are junk in my opinion though. After you get on track, you can have berries, or nuts, cheese etc for snacks. Much tastier, and healthy.

Good luck with low carb.

Drs. Westman, Rosedale, Schwarzbein and Kruse are all docs who recommend lower carb diets. Rosedale, Schwarzbein and Kruse are against any and all fake foods. Westman is more OK on things like artificial sweeteners.

I do low carb but I limit fake foods and that includes the Atkins bars, as well as the zone-type bars made by Abbott and the granola, cereal and processed soy protein bars from everyone else. In addition, I never make any low carb "goodies" or desserts. What works for me is to eat as much real home-cooked food as possible. There are so many wonderful combinations of meat and veggies. If I really want something sweet I usually have some fruit, but YMMV on that one.

My M.D. has me on a low carb diet. I asked him about the Atkins bars and he was rather dubious and suggested that I not eat them. However, he is also rather adamant about other things that not all nutritionists are in agreement. So, I would like another opinion. What are some other views regarding eating the Atkins snack and/or meal replacement low carb bars? Thanks
