I think a couple of hard boiled eggs without the yolk and some nuts :)...if you have access to a freezer the SwissMiss 100Calorie Fedge Bar-- tastes like chocolate icecream to me and only 1g of fat

I've never tried making a smoothie with milk-- I typically use yogurt. I think I'm going to give this a try!

okay, since no one has hit on this one, if you like PB and you like spicy. . .try one of my favorites.
Fresh jalapeños, seeded, trimmed and halved. Use caution! Wear gloves.
Spread PB onto them and enjoy.
I know it sounds different and some of you are wrinkling your nose, but if you like the two separate you will enjoy them together:)

Frozen berries, make your own trail mix by shopping in the bulk section of your grocery store!, try this: 1 oz whole grain pretzels, 2 tbsp almonds, 1 oz cheese, 1 cup grapes all mixed together, yogurt mixed with flaxseed.

Recently I have become obsessed with cherries and frozen blueberries. The frozen berries are cheaper than fresh - and they are bigger and juicier berries. Yum :-) They are so nice frozen too, because they literally melt in your mouth.

A brown rice rice cake is only 30 calories and costs about 11 cents (when they're on sale for 1.50 for 14 in the pack). I LOVE cheese strings, but can only get them when they're on sale: 16 oz - 16 cheese sticks - for $4 or less. That's about 25 cents each, and a little expensive for me, but I NEVER pay more than that! One package will last over 2 weeks.

I'm trying to grow my own cherry tomatoes, also celery. Fresh celery is like a new vegetable. The tiny leaves are so good, my cousin said he never tasted any thing like it, thats if you like celery.I would say cherry tomatoes would be the Quick and easy snack with piece of your favorite cheese.Sprinkle some Italian seasoning on them even more tasty.

snacks differ depending on what I need, some days fruit works, some days crunchy vegetables, some days a small bag of Sunchips or a small bowl of dry lightly sugared cereal like Life or Cheerieos or Chex, some days yogurt or chocolate. Total calories under 200.

I actually eat a Clif bar (or something akin) every mid-morning during the work week because I tend to have light breakfasts (as in, cereal with berries and coffee). They give me a calorie/energy boost, and are full of fiber and protein. Also, they're pretty delicious.

Fresh fruit is my usual snack. It's more inexpensive if you stay with what's in season. Also, even though it's more expensive, I recommend getting organic fruit--especially apples. The difference in taste is remarkable.

Hard boiled eggs are a good, cheap snack too. Boil more than one at a time and stick them in the fridge. They kill your hunger in nothing flat.

If you're really thrifty, don't buy baby carrots. Buy bigger carrots and slice them up yourself.

I buy the biggest bag of almonds I can find and portion them out. String cheese is another good one, but it can be a chanllenge for some to keep it cold if you dont have a way to store it. I love Luna and Lara bars as well. Fruits are always quick and easy, and they are not too expenisve if you buy what is in season.

I will definitely be looking up the FiberOne brownies and doing the 'real cheese' crackers. You might try this - some small curd (my preference) cottage cheese with a sprinkling of cinnamon/sugar/your favorite sugar substitute. Lots of protein.

Cheap starts with where you get them: Costco, Aldi, Big Lots are my faves for deals.

Big bag pistachios at Costco is like 25 1 oz servings
48 string cheese sticks at Costco for less than $8
Bags of apples on sale
1/2 serving Special K crackers with 80 cals cheese and 1/3 oz ham is 150 calories
Special K chocolately drizzle bars are 90 calories
Fiber One chocolate oats bars - 36 are $12 at Costco
1/3 oz ham rolled with one string cheese
baby carrots and 2 tbsp hummus
1 3/4 cups watermelon - one big one yields 35-40 cups
SF popsicles and jello

Hi! How do you make the protein shake ice cream? Is it just protein powder and water and then freeze it for a few hours?

Hi! For the oatmeal and peanut butter recipe, I just wanted to clarify the directions, You said
"scoop out a tablespoon of peanut butter, add a few drops (literally only a few) and mix it in until it is pretty creamy". So, do you only add a few drops of peanut butter, or is it something else?

Sounds delicious - thanks for sharing!

When I need to "crunch" something, I have found that cutting up carrots (can be baby carrots) and celery into bite-size pieces and throwing them into a bowl totally satisfies my need. It doesn't take much to take away my craving for the crunchy snack and a bowl is more than I can eat. Cut them up early in the week and they are good for several days. Peppers would be great too. I like the idea of the ziploc snack bags from below. I will have to try that with this snack so I am extra prepared for the dreaded cravings! Thanks for all the great suggestions on this thread!

Fruits and veggies!!
I catch canned fruit on sale, or freeze fresh fruit when I get a deal...and some staples, like carrots, celery, cucumber, and tomatoes, tend to be reasonably priced already!
I also recommend reduced fat string cheese...
And store-brand chewy granola bars (only 90 calories, and sometimes only a couple bucks a box)--not only some oatmeal and granola in there, you can get a chocolate fix or grab the oatmeal-raisin kind for a little kick of iron!

Watermelon and for the ultimate cheapness--- a big extra glass of water! I can't tell you how many times I have wanted a snack when I was really just thirsty. Also, saving an extra cup of coffee to mix with 1/2 cup of milk, a cup of ice and a sprinkle of truvia for 3 CUPS of delicious smoothie in that bothersome late afternoon munchie time! I use my blender to whirl it for about 45 seconds.

1/4 cup of oatmeal with peanut butter and honey.

At work, I have access to the coffee dispenser, which has a hot water tap. I usually do enough to lightly coat the oats, let them sit for a minute, scoop out a tablespoon of peanut butter, add a few drops (literally only a few) and mix it in until it is pretty creamy. I usually add a small portion of skim milk to cool it down a touch and to give it a creamier texture. It is a delicious little snack that gets me through for hours. When I make it home on occasion, I toss in fruit as well like bananas!

This is slightly more "dessert-y" than "snack-y" if you get my drift but I'll share it anyway, and you can always have it as just a small portion.

I have been using tinned or fresh fruit (or both) (fav. combination so far has been pineapple and blueberries) and covering the fruit with a few tablespoons of low fat custard. Pop in the microwave just til it is warmed through (about 1 minute 20 seconds in mine). It tastes a bit like crumble or pie but without the crumble or pastry!

(Also tried with peaches, strawberries, mango and raspberries)

I can't wait to go home and make an ice cream protein drink! Great idea! My daughter just turned me onto Fiber One brownies, at 90 calories, it takes care of my chocolate fix, and with 20 g of protein it helps me meet my protein goal! Thanks for all the great ideas!

Protein Shakes as Ice Cream! Yum.

About 100 to 130 calories each. I make a chocolate one when I get home. Add just about any flavoring. But I love a drop of peppermint. Freeze a couple of hours and voila!

www.vitalady.com is where I get mine. I love some of the chocolate ones. But I switch to fruit ones during summer, add a strawberry or a slice of lemon, put a creamy vanilla with a diet root beer for a great float flavor. There are so many things you can do with flavored protein shakes.

I'm dancing as fast as I can.

I'm a diabetic so I have to watch my carbs. I've just discovered barbaque flavored pork rinds (chicharrones). They satisfy the crunch I want without any carbs! I bought the Kroger brand but Hussman's makes them, too. Only 80 calories per serving!

A Nutritionist gave a lecture on healthy weight loss and told us to avoid the 100 calorie pack snacks, many are high in sugar and some contain additives that are not helpful to our bodies. I buy the snack size zip lock bags and make my own single serving snacks. It is much cheeper than buying the 100 calorie packs. I take one serving of Wheat Thins, one serving of low fat granola, 12 cashews, or 14 almonds and place them in the snack sized bags. You can make your own 100 calorie packs to have on hand whenever you need them.

Wise makes a butter flavored popcorn that has 50% less fat and 1/3 less calories, 4 cups is 140 calories 6 grams of fat. Wise also makes a white cheddar cheese version. They are both very good and filling.

Lots of great suggestions for snacks.
Best wishes to all on your journey to better health and fitness.
