For grab and go food, I always like apples and those little packs of almonds.

There are NO foods that need to be consumed because they have magical benefits. ALL whole, unprocessed, natural foods have an abundance of health benefits. Eat a varied and abundant amount of unprocessed/unrefined/unpackaged/non-manufactured foods and you will get loads of benefits. These foods only seem magical when they're compared to over-processed junk. :)

emoticon I guess I did not make myself clear - I also believe if you don't like it don't eat it, so I haven't been! I should have gone on to say since I don't like these things what suggestions of other things to try! I am thinking especially of the yogurt - I have heard so many people talking about the benefits of yogurt but I haven't done any of the research to find out whet those benefits actually are and what other foods might have some of those benefits that I can substitute (was hoping some one had done the work for me!)...I thank you all for your helpful comments!

Since my diet had consisted of so much sugar, red meat and potatoes my blood work is showing some not so great numbers and I am trying to make small changes a little at a time to change those numbers as well as loose the pounds. The weekly menus have been great and I have tried and liked several new things but I am finding I really don't like to cook all that much and would like to have a stash of foods I can grab and go - my current favorites are Craisins, bananas and granola bars...although I am trying to find a healthier choice of those (any suggestions?).

Thanks again everyone!

I can't stand oatmeal. It looks like it has already been eaten. Ick. As for yogurt, I only started eating greek yogurt about a month ago, before that I didn't eat yogurt at all.

You don't need to eat these things to lose weight. I suppose you are wanting substitutes because they are lower in calories and filling?

- 1 piece of peanut butter on toast, a banana and a small soy latte fill me up for breakfast
- Eggs are great. Scramble 2 and have on a piece of toast for another filling breakfast

There are plenty of other things you can eat!

I agree with the others. If you don't like them, don't eat them. Is there a particular reason why you think you should/must eat them?

If you don't like yogurt or oatmeal, don't eat them. Simple as that. There is no point to force yourself to eat foods you don't like!

I don't like oatmeal or yogurt either.
I am actually allergic to yogurt.

So, guess what? I just don't eat them.
There are plenty of foods I DO like. I do not have to make myself like ones that I don't!

I used to hate oatmeal too--until I started added peanut butter & honey to it! YUMMY.

However, I agree--if you don't like yogurt & oatmeal...don't eat them. Duh.

Just made sure you get fiber & calcium from other sources. Life is full of variety--your diet can be too! :)

If you don't like yogurt and oatmeal, don't eat yogurt and oatmeal. There's no one particular food that you have to eat. Just don't buy those things.

If you're following a meal plan that mentions them, yogurt is there for protein and calcium, so eat something else with those nutrients. Skim milk would be fine. Oatmeal is a whole grain; eat any other whole grain instead. If you're not sodium-sensitive, Cheerios have everything that oatmeal has. Or, if you want a hot cereal, try cooked barley, quinoa, wild rice, millet, bulgur wheat-- the possibilities are endless.

If you add chopped almonds (I chop one serving, which is 28 almonds) to your oatmeal, you may enjoy that texture. I also add raisins (40 grams). Don't forget the nonfat milk (half cup). Try that. It's really good. I've also discovered a great blog that invests much effort into making oatmeal a great thing:

One of her menu tabs is "Tribute to Oatmeal". Check it out.

Put yogurt in smoothies to thicken them.

I have tried yaogurt in many forms and just can't eat it - what can I substitute?

I also have a hard time with oatmeal...just can't get past the texture - oatmeal cookies are great! any suggestions?

I am also just learning to like granola bars - love the quaker oats less sugar peanut butter and chocolate chip ones - but would like to try someting a bit healthier...must be chewy, not crunchy...
