Once a month, or so, I eat out and have something that has way too many calories and too much fat.

Yes, 8000 is way to much! That would be equivalent to what 2-3 people would indulge in....be good to yourself on your birthday, not harmful!

I tend to go over by 200 or so once a week, but the past 4 days I have gone about 50-200 under my min as well as I have started to stay under my 2300 for sodium most days under 2000. My question is my Birthday is coming up in about a week and I have a bunch of free coupons thanks to http://freebirthdaymeals.org/ and a few other local restraunts. My plan for that day is too cheat. but is there a point where too much is too much? I used to eat 5,000 - 10,000 calories a day with no problem or even thinking about it and stayed around 230-240 pounds no matter what I ate or drank. I have lost 15 pounds since starting my new lifestyle 6 weeks ago and don't desire to ruin it all, but I just want 1 day where I don't even think about counting calories ( thou I prob still would in my head ).

From what I can already assume/count for what I plan to eat it will near 8000 Calories for that day. Is this a bad idea?

When my anxiety gets the best of me I will indulge. Also it seems when I have too much salt or sodium in my diet, I go for the sweets.

I keep trying to lose weight, but it keeps finding me

I just started back watching it and working out a few days ago and I am always of the mind to keep it in moderation and fit it into my daily calories. I still have to work hard to eat enough by the end of the day.

Finally going to do it!

I try to only indulge about once a week despite my cravings. I agree with the other posters - I allow myself to have what I want. Since it's in moderation, I believe it's okay and it's worked for me!

In order to keep the cravings at bay, I'll create healthier options to my favorite calorie-laden snacks - whole wheat desserts, or yogurt sweetened with fruit instead of sugar, whole grain toast with almond butter instead of a PB&J on white, etc.

I find myself craving the "bad" stuff much, much less this way because I don't feel totally denied :)

Whenever I have a craving, I find a way to make concessions to fit whatever it is that I'm craving into my allotted 1500 calories for the day. I find that I'm more successful if I let myself eat what I really enjoy in one way or another.

I usually have a small portion of the actual thing I'm craving or I try to find an equally satisfying alternative, like a turkey burger instead of a regular burger.

I don't believe in the notion of indulgence. I believe in moderation. If I want a doughnut, I'll go buy a doughnut. If I want ice cream, I'll buy ice cream. Same goes with baking. I'm not going to give stuff I love up because it's not the best for me. The air I breathe isn't the best for me, but that doesn't make me live in a bubble. As long as I aim to eat right most of the time, and exercise I eat sweets, I bake.

I would say once a week, I'm not a big sweet eater so that helps. I have my favorites such as carrot cake, banana bread, hersheys chocolate bars and I guess that's about it. Like that isn't enough. When I indulge most likely its a steak dinner with baked potatoe. Our a salad with a piece of carrot cake. I try and not to eat to many other calories during the day so I can indulge. I was always told not to deny myself if it was something you really wanted, because it would make you binge. I don't know about that but I do know if I do indulge I just go back to being good.

I don't really indulge. I include so called indulgences in my daily calorie intake and I only eat one serving size. Moderation is key.

There's a great disconnect between my brain and my stomach. I do not take chocolates more than 3 times a week and use SparkPeople to keep me on track with this...but when I do not take my chocolates, I indulge in a savory snack like poppadums before I become aware of what I have done!! Getting there but the journey is a lot harder than I thought...because of the DISCONNECT!!!!

I visit local strawberry farm store once a week to buy vegetable and fruit. They say they're the world famous... I don't know about that but their strawberry shake is indeed best in town and I can't resist the temptation!

But I'm not really sugar / funk food addict, so that's all.

I know this sounds somewhat obsessive, but I have to indulge in low-fat ice cream every night. I workout at least 5 days a week, but I know if I could kick this habit, I would meet my weight loss goal.

I'm lucky that I don't have TOO much of a sweet tooth, and I've found some Welch's fruit snacks that satisfy that craving while still being a reasonable calorie number and having SOME actual nutritional value. What gets ME is salty/savory things. Like honey mustard pretzels, cheese sticks, or crab rangoon from the Chinese place. But I do better when not having them at ALL for some time, then, when I DO have it, it feels like I need less of it to satisfy me. The fruit snacks I keep around all the time to munch on whenever I have room in my calorie count for them. I try never to go over, even for an indulgence, unless it's a very rare occasion. Though, my sister's birthday is tomorrow and I went with my father to order a cake today. *sigh* She's on NutriSystem, though, so we cut every calorie corner we could ordering it, so maybe it'll be okay. :)

Usually a major indulge ( hubby wanted pizza last night, i started working harder then normal now..but i ate 1.5 slices and stuck to it) but usually daily i can allot some sweet in, but not much..besides walking atleast 4k a day and eating rather clean allows it.. i even have trouble meeting my calorie zone..

Daily but just recently I have gone from bad sweets and bad chips or crackers to much healthier things that I can indulge in. I was raised on sweets so I have always loved them but now I am realizing that I need to each a lot better. It seems every few years I have to get back on the right track. I started the Spark diet in 2004 and it always gives me the ambition I need to keep up the good work when I have gone completely toward the worst ways of eating whether it be due to stress, vacations or restaurant meals with relatives & or friends. My mother in law and my husband cook the most delicious meals that are very hard not to over indulge in.

It's not really a question of indulgence, per se. I try to replace the foods I'd like to avoid with healthier alternatives. As time passes and I get more used to real food versions of those 'treats', when I have those 'treats' again, they don't taste nearly as good.

If this is a lifestyle and not a crash or fad diet I can't allow myself to feel restricted. If I feel like I am missing out, I will (eventually) rebel against my self-imposed food regulations. Of course, sometimes I falter - but that's how I've discovered that I like my healthier versions better.

Who would have thought that eventually I wouldn't like French fries? It only took about six months of replacing them with other things, and now I find regular fries bland and greasy.

Everyday.....coffee with carmel vanilla creamer-yum! Otherwise I have really been watching what I eat and keeping everything in check. If I indulge I try to eat a smaller portion or just a taste (which with kids is taking the last bite off their plate:) A taste will usually be enough. I LOVE chocolate and that is the one thing that I have cut out and you know what? I really don't miss it...hard to believe for me!!

Indulge, crave, want more and more...... all words that mean where we get side-tracked from our goals to be slimmer, fitter, and more healthy. Realize that the food industry wants YOU to consume more and more of their products particularly the highest profit processed junk that is full of unneeded sugars, fats, and salt! What would happen if we learned to steer clear of the baddies and started to "indulge and crave" a beautiful bowl of fresh naked fruit salad instead of a fried, fatty plate of late night nachos from our local Taco Casa?

I don't really consider it indulging. If I want something that may be a little more calorie-laden, I'll eat it. If I don't, I'll eat 'around it' and probably eat more calories than if I just went ahead and ate the desired food. I normally have one piece of dark chocolate after supper, and we like a glass or two of wine two or three times a week. I try to live a healthy lifestyle of good nutrition and exercise, and controlling what I eat, but if I want something special, I'll eat it.

For me at least once or twice a week. I love chocolate. I will get a bag of M&M's or TXIX. Just love those two things.. makes me feel satsified, with out getting out of control calorie wise!!

The greatest day in your life and mine is when we take total responsibility for our attitudes. That's the day we truly grow up.

I indulge whenever I want. Sometimes I count it in and sometimes I don't. If I go away for a weekend I eat what I want. Worrying about what I put in my mouth would just ruin a holiday for me. I don't go as mad as I used to years ago for food anyway so I know I can check it as soon as I get back. I like to exercise in hotel rooms when away though to burn off some of the extra calories.
