Since I started on this journey last August - only once. I bought a key lime pie (my favorite) and shared it with friends. I only had ONE SMALL SLICE! Now, it's back - it is seasonal - and my husband wants one. (So do I!) So, I'll cut it into 12 slices (not 6 or 8) and have two very small pieces three days apart. I will be well within my calorie range when I eat it - but it does have a lot of sugar. I don't "indulge" any more - I eat healthy foods in moderation and bad foods in one-bite portions. Occasionally, I have two teaspoons of ice cream, or one hershey's kiss. 2 or 3 ounces of white wine , maybe once a month. Ten months since my last visit to a fast food drive-thru! The single bag of kisses my Mom gave me last October is still 3/4 full! Nothing tastes as good as getting my figure back feels! To all who see this - may God bless uyour success on this journey we all share.

I don't have the mental attitude "oh, I'll starve for 3 days so I can indulge for 1 day"...I just enjoy life. I try to eat healthy MOST of the time, and if I feel the need for junk food, I eat some...in moderation!

Plus I exercise DAILY--so a little extra here or there won't kill me. It's all part of a Healthy Lifestyle....NOT a diet. :)

It Is What It Is.... :)

Indulge in what? I drink wine almost every day, but usually within my caloric limits. I eat more than my recommended calories 2 or 3 times a week, but eat in the lower range the rest of the week and try to add extra cardio minutes here and there to make up for it. Foodwise, I'm pretty clean, but darn that wine gets me every time!!!!

Make no little plans. They have no magic to stir men's blood and probably themselves will not be realized. Make big plans; aim high in hope and work, remembering that a noble, logical diagram once recorded will never die, but long after we are gone will be a living thing, asserting itself with ever-growing insistency. Remember that our sons and grandsons are going to do things that would stagger us. Let your watchword be order and your beacon beauty. Think big.

Mostly on Special occasions....and they come up far more frequently than I thought they might when I started this program...like birthday's...friend's in town or having get together s.....Since I've been actively TRACKING my food choices for the past few months....I find..even though I indulge on occasion....I am much more "conscious" of the choices I make....

Lately I have been letting myself eat with less active supervision (from a caloric standpoint), and when I see myself get into trouble more than twice a week, I start tracking more consistently.

Anyone can do it if I can do it!!

I use the Friday and Sunday to 'indulge". I let myself eat more than my recommended caloric intake but still less than what I was eating before I joined the program. I eat my 'bad' foods but still keep it under 2300 calories.

I tend to indulge every other day and maybe more if I have those type of foods in the house. So I normally stay away from purchasing them. I also limit my three boys and husband from bringing in too many, too regular in our home so I would not have the over insatiable desire to eat this way.

Often!!! I find that knowing that I have the liberty to indulge whenever I want to makes me less inclined to over-indulge. My motto is 'Everything In Moderation'!

Every Monday. I allow myself the two things that I love while I'm watching wrestling. I find that if I don't allow certain things every once in awhile, I will overindulge. By knowing that I can allow myself the things that I love in small bites, I don't go overboard. Most of the time just having that in my mind is enough. We have a bunch of sweets and things that I don't eat. It's there if I want it but I find myself not going for it.

Saturday's are my mine and my boyfriends 'free' day. If I didn't have that day to eat what I want (within reason), I'd probably fall off the wagon during the week. In saying that, I don't mean sit with a bowl of ice cream, or eat half a cake, as that's really not very appealing to me anyway. Our free day's are basically making a 'normal' meal, like Chicken Fried Steak or some type of pasta dish and maybe a beer. Eating an average portion, and eating until I'm full, not about to explode.

Sunday, and the rest of the week, we make healthy choices.

A lot of interesting ideas here about what qualifies as an indulgence! While I agree with the ideas of moderation and making good choices about what you want to eat, thinking of some things as "indulgences" has actually been very helpful for me. It's been helpful because I am able to see "indulgences" or "treats" as a rare occasion instead of something I feel I deserve or need every day.

For me, this is especially true with sweets (especially ice cream!!). For a long time, I felt like I needed a dessert after every meal. Putting dessert in the "indulgences" category in my mind makes it so that I don't feel entitled to a dessert after every meal. It's not something I'll have all the time, which makes it more enjoyable and special when I do have it.

Pretty often, as long as it's in a controlled setting. For example, I'll only buy candy in the bulk food section, where I can control the serving size I take home. I know if I bring a whole box of truffles home, I will eat them all. But if I buy just a single serving of truffles, I can eat them and not feel like it's the end of the world. It's all about moderation, right?

I allow myself four servings of my favorite treats, ice cream and cookies, twice weekly. That equals 1/2 cup of ice cream two times a week, plus a cookie with it. Other than that, my diet is reasonably balanced and on track for my health/fitness goals. It is hard for me to keep favorite sweets to that small of an amount, but it works!

In 25 days, I haven't, Because to me, the idea of two steps back for a twinkie or some indulgence, is just not worth it. I am in a great routine right now. And I am not saying I will NEVER eat another slice of pizza again. But I am saying, that I am trying a new lifestyle, that is obviously working. And no amount of food will make me feel any better than how I feel without it.

Occasionaly I'll pick up a biscotti cookie... I don't feel as though I'm indulging too overboard. I puposely bought a box of "mini" size cookies...there aren't that many calories in them and I am never over my calories for a day or week.

My problem is restaurants. I know that there are so many good choices listed here...but when you're looking at the menu, it's hard to find them and figure out just how bad they are.
For example, today my brother & sister-in-law insist on me joining them at a restaurant for dinner that none of us have been to before...how can I guess what to expect when we get there?

So, I'll get what sounds right to my semi-educated brain and when I get home and list them, then I'll know the way to adjusting my foods for the rest of the week intelligently.

I try not to think of it as indulging or a reward. If I use flavored cream in my coffee in the morning, I have to cut those calories later. I had a piece of cake earlier with my kids. (180 calories.) It is in the tracker and accounted for. If I didn't track, I would be eating sweets a lot more. If the snack is going to cause me to go over my limits, I try not to eat it.

I indulge every day, usually something less than 100 calories. I just plan for it.

This isn't a "diet" that we're on. It's supposed to be a lifestyle change, something you can live with for the long haul. If I were totally deprived of treats, I'd start to feel resentful and would probably go way overboard.

Life is too short to not eat your favorite foods. You just have to be sensible about it.

While I have some bad eating habits, my main problem is that I have had to take 7 insulin shots on a daily basis. Since I wasn't exercising I bloated. All I had to do was exercise and the amount of insulin I needed would have been less which would have led to less weight gain. Now I am trying to retrain my brain to concentrate on being healthy and perhaps eliminating the insulin all together.

Too much indulging! --- in goodies, pie, cake, icing, brownies, cookies, candy, ice cream... Indulging in those are what brought me to being unhealthy and over weight. I had something on the above list everyday...that was then.

Since Spark Indulging for me now is everyday enjoying: beautifully ripe fruit, fresh vegetables, giant salads with Super Greens that I didn't know existed before, raw nuts and seeds, healthy portions of meat--- well planned out, well thought out yummy hardy meals that bring me nourishment and to wellness. Eating to live, not living to eat. (I'm embarrased at the junk that I used to eat, and the fact that having any of the goodies would trigger a binge).

Indulging now is doing activities that I enjoy and bring me joy everyday.

I indulge 2 or 3 times a week... I plan for it and never go over my calories. I want to be successful and completely cutting out certain foods would not make me successful. I think it's important to eat the things you love in moderation. I LOVE Oreo cookies and know I can enjoy 3 of them for 150 calories emoticon. Practicing moderation seems to work for me and keeps me on the "wagon" so to speak.

At least once a week. I indulge in Qdoba usually- naked burrito with chicken and all the fixings!

I try not to go over my calories when I do this though- So I may have a light breakfast, Qdoba for lunch, and a light dinner.

I want to make this a long term lifestyle change, and I don't think I can manage that by completely eliminating something I love.

I indulge maybe two times a week. I live alone and there is no one to run to the store for me on a daily basis so I get my indulgence about two times a week. It is Cheetos. It is a snack that is not too sweet; however, it is extremely fat/greasy, salty, and full of calories. I know this and continue to eat the things. I am addicted to one of the worst foods out there. I keep telling myself that I am going to stop eating Cheetos. This is just an empty promise.

I "indulge" in a treat once a day. I work into my overall plan.

As far as eating out and going over my calories I do that rarely. Maybe 1-2x a month. Im having such a great time losing weight that I dont want to mess it up.

I indulge once in a while. So far the indulgences have not put me over my daily calorie goals. I taste things but don't eat much of them. It's nice to know I can eat different things if I want but I've been choosing not to stray. I have set a goal to reach a certain weight by June 23 and I'm only 4 pounds away. I'm too close to mess it up and have worked too hard to get where I am. The unhappy me is too vivid in my memory to want her back again any time soon.

I allow myself one night a week to dine out with my husband, and base my meal choices on how good I was throughout the day. So far I've been able to order the food I want within reason, not food I SHOULD be eating. All that being said, I allow myself one glass of white wine no matter what I order. This is real life. I'm not going to just quit everything because I want to drop a few pounds.

I'm jumping back on this after being very stressed out for the last ...well, 6 months (luckily I've maintained for the most part within about 5 pounds or so!!). I do find that if I 'indulge', it leads to another, then another and another. I'm trying to figure out why I was saying "I NEED to have X". Why do I need it? does anyone really need empty calories? I don't think so. It's going to be hard, but I too am like an alcoholic. It was and is my drug of choice (that's why it's taken me about 3 years to get where I am now) and I back slide too often.

I try not to lol but I sometimes find myself craving something and I do it in moderation...Because that's the only way I know how to! Some foods that I haven't had in awhile (that I don't need) no longer taste the same way they used to. Either they're too sweet or too salty. So I just stop craving them haha. emoticon

Several years ago, I got out a calendar and marked all the "special" occasions in which I have typically indulged. Each month had at least one, and often two, big deals that simply called for unhealthy food.

So I picked six occasions, and I only indulged on those days. The funny thing was, I really didn't want to overdo it at any of those events. My taste buds had come to crave salad and fruit!!! Sugary foods were too sweet, dairy foods, such as cheese and ice cream, were too heavy.

Now I don't mind that others eat whatever in front of me. It just doesn't appeal the way it used to.

Everyday! If I didn't allow myself a small indulgence each day, I think I would go nuts and eat everything I wanted. So, I let my self have a couple pieces of chocolate or a fruit popsicle.. something that tastes awesome but won't send my calories over the daily goal.

I don't really keep track of how much I indulge. I don't buy candy or keep junk food in my cabinets and I try to just eat healthy. If I want guacamole, I'm going to have it! I think having cheat days just makes you want to eat too much, but if you have a small amount of what you want, only when you want it, it'll be easier to keep yourself in check.

About every other week my husband and I go to our favorite mexican restaurant and get fajitas (chicken) with all the trimmings.. This includes all the salsa and chips I can stuff in y mouth as well. After that, I am good for another 2 weeks.. I've just started Sparkpeople 2 weeks ago and am down 4 pounds. I was doing Nutrisystem for 8 weeks prior to coming to Sparkpeople and had lost 11 pounds. So in other words, I'm still losing weight but am rewarding myself on occasion so that I don't go off the diet all together and blow it.

Hi.
I'm one of those people that have to be careful of treats. Before you know it I have blown my calorie intake for the day. I can quite easily resist most things e.g chocolate, cake, cookies. My weakness is coke, sprite and energe drinks. If I become fixated about it I will get a coke zero or sugar free energe drink. I might only drink half the coke before throughing it away. I now find it to sweet. As for treats. Have found lomen and raspberry muffins.( 187 cal). but allways try to fit into my daily calorie allowance. emoticon

Once a week, sometimes twice. I go to my parents house on Saturdays and my mom always has good food so I take that as my main day to indulge. If hubby and I go to dinner on Sunday then I'll take that as an indulgant day too..but if I'm just sitting home on Sundays I keep to my calorie budget. The weekends are more relaxed for me...I don't pay attention to my food intake too much..but I pay attention just enough to make sure I'm not overdoing it.

Feel free to add me as a friend! :):):)

every weekend! friday night to sunday night i allow myself to eat whatever i want, no matter what it is. it usually ends up being things i crave during the week. example would be instead of blowing my hard work on a box of donuts someone brings in the morning to work, i tell myself ill eat all i want come the weekend. and then i end up eating only one or two if at all, 'cause, its the weekend and i can eat anything i want and there is so much more tasty stuff out there than running to the store for a donut! but if i really want donuts then heck yea ill stuff my face with them.

A small indulgence every day - that way it doesn't feel like an indulgence..... just the reality that I can have a little treat each day.

Usually it's a light ice cream serving or a little dark chocolate.

Yum!

I define "indulgence" as a sweet, usually a baked good, or a glass of wine. I do that on occasion if it presents itself, but I always make sure that it fits into my macronutrient ranges and that I record it so that I'm accountable. Most of the time, if I read a nutrition label, I lose interest and move on, knowing that I can utilize my caloric intake in more productive ways.
