Have you tried the Green Coffee Bean supplement or have you heard anything about its success? I started it just today, and it does seem to suppress my appetite.

I ordered the green coffee bean "free trial" sample and I'm worried that it is probably a gimmick! I already called and ordered and did the cancelation, but I'm worried that it won't truely be canceled! Does anyone have any advice?! emoticon emoticon

I may have already answered, but I couldn't find the answer. I fell for the green coffee bean and all it did was raise my blood pressure. I am going to avoid it from now on.

Made it to my maintenance weight of 125 pounds.

Even though I have reached goal. I still don't know everything about weight loss.

I have to add that, yes, I am doing it the eating healthy and exercise way and that is working, but I do like reading the medical journals and am curious about several things.

I really have not used any supplements since I was a younger person, but have decided to do a 12 week green tea personal experiment and after a pause of a month or two, trying the 22 week green coffee experiment. Trying their time periods and dose ranges.

It is my personal experiment, but it is not because of Dr Oz. I am interested in some of the studies that were done. I guess I will see what happens.

I won't do it long term, just the study length of time and will check the same indicators they did: BMI, Waist circumference, Body Weight, Heart resting rate, etc.

I have been reading the green coffee and green tea medical studies and though I agree that the particular study on green coffee was too low a sample, but there are other studies on its affect on blood sugar and insulin resistance and things like that and helping things like that might work.

Green tea has a lot more studies, but does similar things, but there is a minimum dose for actual weight loss and it isn't a cup of green coffee or green tea at Starbucks.

I will use the green tea studies, because there are so many of them. 400-ish mg of the green tea wasn't enough to cause weight loss, but it improved things like cholesterol. Getting closer to 600 mg improved the waist size. The weight loss studies used higher doses than that.

I guess what I am saying is that you would have to know what you are doing to even try these things, but that both green tea and coffee have more than one study and not all of them are about product sales. (Yes, Dr Oz cites one that is such a small sample size that I agree it is iffy at best to quote that one.)

You can buy unroasted coffee beans in the store. Roasting them does not make them into a weight loss thing.

Just because this extract is in the Starbucks low cal drinks doesn't mean it does anything.

Dr. Oz has touted many weight-loss miracles. One of my co-workers buys every single one, and has not lost a pound. Meanwhile she keeps asking me what my "secret" is, and when I tell her regular exercise and just eating fewer calories, her eyes glaze over...... There is no quick-success pill.

I tried the Green Coffee Bean Extract because it worked for my mom but it made me horribly hungry! I only used it a week because my hunger which had previously been under control was totally out of control.

I am having huge, huge, huge luck with Now's Grapefruit Pectin. I was taking it on those days I am still to hungry because it makes me feel full. What surprised me is that it seems to have increased my fat burning. Now, I take it every day.

I'm trying a new dietary supplement drink containing an extract from the fruit Garcinia Cambogia which Dr. Oz calls "the Holy Grail of weight loss". I've noticed I feel better and I'm anxious to see the results in a few weeks. Any woman over 40 knows how difficult it is to burn those fat pockets no matter how much you exercise and eat healthier just to lose those last 10lbs. If anyone is interested in knowing the product please message me.

BTW I'm expecting to receive negative comments from this post, this is my body, my health and my money so it really doesn't matter if you don't agree with my choices

I feel there are products out there that work with people’s metabolism. Look at what happens when people take anti depressants. They put on weight. I my self lost over 40 lbs on a drug called Topomax when I was being treated by a doctor. I had no idea why I was losing weight. I did not change my eating habits or work out. It took me almost a year to figure it out and by that time I was experiencing the side effects from the drug. I researched it and found that weight loss was a side effect. However it does not take weight off of all people.
So maybe these green coffee beans are working in the same manor for some

I mean there isn't anything bad about it, its just all the bogus claims that are attributed to nothing but the caffeine in the premature coffee bean (green coffee). Distributors may try to argue about its antioxidants or a chemical in it but truth be told that has nothing to do with fat burning/thermogenisis. It's just a glorified caffeine pill, you can get them cheaper at Walgreens.

Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels.

I happened to notice the topic and had to see what everyone was saying. My personal thought is that you need to save your money. They make the green coffee bean, the raspberry ketones, and now something else sound totally amazing. I have not tried any of these (I am really surprised I haven't)...but maybe I am finally learning....a pill did not get me heavy and a pill is not going to get me skinny! Eating to much food put the weight on and so learning to eat proper amounts and not over indulge is what will take the weight off, but not some little coffee bean that costs $10.00 a bottle (yep, I have looked at them...just not bought them)! emoticon

You can bet the good Dr. Oz owns some part of some company that supplies green coffee beans to the world, same as Oprah............these people didn't become billionairs because of talking, you know. They follow the Barnum rule, there is a sucker born every minute, and it is true still.

Another "promise" to lose weight by a greedy manufacturer and good advertising..I have tried many pills and supplements along with books and plans, making the promise to lose weight, truth being if a "pill" really worked why aren't doctors recommending it to their patients and their are still so many overweight people. There is no such thing as a "magic" weight loss pill, though some relieve fluid retention and waste to make it appear weight has been lost. Save your money, put it aside for a new outfit for after you lose weight and need a smaller size! There will always be a New Pill/Supplement of the season claiming the same thing.

You are so correct on what is happening with the food industry and pharmaceutical companies. Europe has already been regulated on their vitamins and we have been fighting in North America. All the drugs you mentioned, I also researched. It is a shame more people do not take the time to do this and just blindly do what ever a doctor prescribes.

Also if more people knew what Monsanto was doing with are food, people might just wake up.kutos to you for trying to share the light!

Dragonchilde,

LOL Yes, they are awesome! I put avocado on so much stuff that I'm sure I eat some every day. They really satisfy that strange craving I get too. Too bad they're so expensive here in Ohio. I wish I could grow them!

Everything doesn't have to be scientific, especially when we find something as awesome as avocado! :)

Do you have any good recipes to share using them?

I get terrible sugar cravings. I know artificial sweeteners cause them and make my Lupus worse so I use stevia. I'll have to try your suggestion.

I also crave large amounts of essential fatty acids. I crave avocados, nuts, peanutbutter (which I'm allergic to), fish, eggs and seeds. I'm in heaven if I mix up a spinach salad with avocado, a couple pecans, hard boiled egg and sunflower seeds. It seems to help my weight loss but I have no idea why I crave such large amounts of it.

DESERTMOTH, I did not attack anyone in any way. If you would like to discuss my personal responses, you are welcome to contact me privately to do so, but calling me out in such a way is unnecessary. Disagreement is not the same as being rude. AISLYNN125 and I were having a passionate discussion about something, and when it was clear that we could not come to an amiable agreement, we both bowed out.

What's rude is calling out someone by name point out their perceived misdeeds.

I think that you need to research whatever you purchase & see if it works for you. Vitamins and herbs are not bad for you, but we have a lot of companies making inferior supplements. I have been taking them for years, and without them I would have little to no energy.

I have low thyroid, but whenever I am tested, my numbers are just above the line. When I run out and don't take Kelp supplements, I crave (sometime uncontrollable to me anyway) chips. I don't realize it until I start the cravings that I need to purchase more.

Gymnema helps sugar cravings, and their are others I take, but these have been the most beneficial to me.

MaHuang was taken off the market because too many people were getting sick and even dying. It wasn't the herb itself, it was the misuse of it. It worked really good as an appetite supplement, but was also good for allergies. I didn't necessarily lose weight on it, but maintained. When I was taking it, I didn't have allergy problems.

In other countries, they have herbs on the shelves instead of all the medications we find in our drug stores

I can not believe how some people are responding here. I was mortified how rude someone was...I think it was dragonchilde? Someone shares their professional work to only be constantly attacked? I was loving Spark People until I stumbled onto this thread. The poster sharing her knowledge was not making personal attacks. Really unnecessary and it put a damper on my day.

My experience has been pretty good, I bought a 30 pill bottle to try and after taking it twice a day(800mg 2x a day) which lasted me a week and in the past 10 days I've lost 10lbs, I've also been watching what I eat and exercising regularly, but I ran out 3 days ago and i notice I haven't been losing as much weight as i was when I was taking the pills, in the 3 days I haven't taken them I've only lost half a pound, but while taking them I lost about 2lbs every 2-3 days, I bought a bigger bottle so we'll see how well they continue to work!

Unless you are buying De-caff Green tea DOES have caffeine in it. Usually between 25-50 mg. Not as much as brewed coffee which can have 80-150 mg.. Green Coffee bean extract has about 20 mg depending on brand. emoticon

There is definitely caffeine in green coffee beans. Green TEA is caffeine free, but coffee beans naturally have caffeine. All they are are coffee beans that have NOT yet been roasted.

There is insufficient evidence of any kind that they provide any substantial weight loss effect beyond placebo, and the only thing you're *guaranteed* to lose weight in is your wallet. For every person who swears they lost weight with it (conveniently while also exercising and eating at a calorie deficit) there are dozens more who DON'T.

I would really be tempted to try the green coffee, but I have high blood pressure and am sure it is a NO NO without talking to my doctor. Anyone knows exactly how much caffeine is actually in the pills?

If you read anything I sent you, you'd see that I started with the proof of my words but you're right, this isn't a healthy conversation and I wasn't speaking to you when I made that statement. As far as I'm concerned, only a fool trusts our government and it's entities at a Federal level anyway. This was a message hammered home to me when my husband was dying in my arms and I couldn't get anyone to listen or care that last year of life while he was home sick in bed. THE SYSTEM FAILED US and I was left to raise our young children alone. I have personal experience with this and it was horrific to say the least. I'm writing a book about it I hope to have published after I'm done with the doctorate.

Most of our federal government does not care about the bulk of us. Many of them are on the take. If you need proof of that, just look around, you should be able to find plenty. Check out "Capitalism: A Love Story" for a well thought, researched and simply put message.

As far as being a social and/or political activist, I think I am in good company... people like Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, John Adams, Martin Luther King, Jr, Susan B Anthony,,, etc. I'm finishing a doctorate now in social sciences to help abused children and fix federal and state laws that fail miserably to help children.

So in other words... you *don't* have anything to back up your statement that the FDA is taking vitamins and herbs away from us to keep us from being healthy.

Thanks for sharing. :)

Save yourself the time of sending me a private message. I'm not particularly interested in your research; I am not disputing it, nor anything else you've posted. I was asking specifically about a statement you made and have not yet backed up. Specifically, this one:

"Now they're trying to take our vitamins and herbs from us because they don't want people healthy."

But, since you stated:

"Lastly, I'd like to point out to you that this is a free country with freedom of speech. I don't owe you anything nor do I have to prove my point to you. I was agreeing with someone else on this discussion board and it is simply too bad if you don't like it. "

This little red herring is unnecessarily antagonistic. I didn't tell you that you owe me anything, nor do you have to prove your point, I'm simply saying that unless you can prove that point, it is invalid. It's not my job to prove your point for you. I say you are incorrect in making one particular statement. You have yet to prove me wrong.

Since you are not interested in reasoned debate, and prefer instead to waggle around your degrees and other research, I am bowing out of this conversation and will allow you to have the last word, should you so desire. You provided a whole lot of links that don't have anything to do with the question I asked. That's a waste of my time and yours.

I wish you the best. I don't think it's productive for me to continue this conversation.

Dragonchilde,

I'll send in a private message copies of the papers I've written as requirements for fulfillment of some or all of my degrees. They contain on the last pages the formal references.

Also, I have signed formal petitions in person in the last few years to stop the pharmaceutical companies from making vitamins and herbs prescription only. There was a big stink in Congress about it in 2008. The bill was referred to as HR2900 and introduced by Senator Kennedy. Organizations such as The Alliance for Natural Health, Organic Consumer Association and I believe I signed the petition through the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians.

I have also researched other drugs such as Guardasil, Celebrex, and Vioxx. What I have found about their FDA approval is shocking. I'm a skilled researcher and almost finished my doctorate. I can't believe the lack of research supplied for new vaccines and medicines and their subsequent approvals. My children's pediatrician and my family doctor both adviced against vaccines like Chicken Pox and Guardasil because of a lack of research. It took them years to finally give their official okie dockie to the Chicken Pox vaccine. There are cases many times over in court where big pharmaceutical companies have been charged and found guilty of deliberately covering up potential fatal side effects. These industries have merely been fined. Europe's process for approval requires far more research and long term testing before they have approval and again, according to the UN, they're healthier than we are.

Nobel-winning economist Milton Friedman had this to say about the FDA: “The FDA has done enormous harm to the health of the American public."

Here are some interesting stories for you to read I found in a matter of minutes:

http://healthjournalism.org/blog/2009/04/fda-staff-calls-for-end-to-corruption-wrongdoing/
http://www.commondreams.org/news2008/0206-17.htm

Lastly, I'd like to point out to you that this is a free country with freedom of speech. I don't owe you anything nor do I have to prove my point to you. I was agreeing with someone else on this discussion board and it is simply too bad if you don't like it.

"Frankly, I'm fed up with politicians in Washington lecturing the rest of us about family values. Our families have values. But our government doesn’t." BILL CLINTON, speech at Democratic National Convention, July 16, 1992

"“You have to choose between trusting to the natural stability of gold and the natural stability of the honesty and intelligence of the members of the government. And, with due respect to these gentlemen, I advise you, as long as the capitalist system lasts, to vote for gold.” George Bernard Shaw, 1925 Nobel Prize Winner

I was even at Walmart with the box of the green coffee bean in my hand. And then I saw the Raspberry Ketone. Unfortunately I fell for that one. So I put it back on the shelf.

Even though the scale has not been kind to me the past month. I will keep trying to do it the Spark Way

Made it to my maintenance weight of 125 pounds.

Even though I have reached goal. I still don't know everything about weight loss.

You're welcome to provide sources for your statements about the FDA attempting to remove vitamins and herbs from us because they don't want us to be healthy. I'm not saying the FDA is perfect (it's a government agency - they're all corrupt) I'm asking you to provide references for the following statement:

"Now they're trying to take our vitamins and herbs from us because they don't want people healthy."

If you make a statement that inflammatory, be prepared for when people request reliable sources. I don't care what research papers you've written regarding the FDA. I'm asking you to provide references for this conspiratorial stuff.

Dragonchilde,

I have performed formal research and written papers on the crap the FDA allows in our foods. I have also followed court cases against a variety of businesses, government entities and individuals over using non-safe products that were allowed by the FDA. I then compaired with the US does against what Europe and more specifically, Norway who has been declared by the UN to be the healthiest country in the world repeatedly. Did you know that Norway and many other European countries do not allow USA crops and foods in? Want to know why? We over-refine, use genetic modifications and allow crap in our foods that were not even tested.

If you really want to see my research, I'd be more than happy to start sending it to you. President Obama had promised in his first term he'd disband the FDA and start all over because they're so corrupt. Congress stood against him and he couldnt. My most recent example of corruption there is the PINK SLIME allowed in our ground beef and the director that ok'd it was then offered a CEO job for the company that made the majority of the pink slime. I'm sure you can Google that one.

AISLYNN125: What references do you have for that statement? The only time I've seen the FDA take something off the market is if there's a genuine health risk. Not evaluating snake oil doesn't mean that the snake oil is being "taken away from you". They don't want you to be unhealthy; that's a rather ridiculous statement to make! Are you saying that products like HCG are really great for us, and it's all a part of a conspiracy to keep us fat?

The "FDA evaluation statement" is a red flag to do more research, and understand that the claims do not have to be backed up by reliable medical science. No more, no less.

The FDA isn't perfect. I have to laugh at some of the things it's banned over the ears (kinder eggs? really?) but it's a better place to start than just "we can improve your life even though we have no science at all to prove it!". It's an organization of people, and people are by definition imperfect.

But I trust the FDA before I trust someone who is actively trying to con people to make money and not prove their own statements.

Hey everyone! I am new to spark people (as of last night).... I am going on my 2nd week of the Green Coffee Bean and so far I have been impressed.... I have PCOS so it has been difficult to loose the belly fat. It seems whatever I eat goes quickly right to the tummy. I have increased my water intake and so far I am down 5 lbs. Not sure if this is from the water weight or what, but I am going to keep going. I have noticed that it has cut down on my appetite quite a bit which is a very positive thing for me. I am also going to try Garcinia Cambogia too... Best wishes

I've seen several people express doubts about a supplement or something because it hasn't been evaluated by the FDA. I'm sure we've all seen the numerous ads by lawyers saying something like "xyz drug has been shown to cause or contribute to this or that ailment". Can anyone guess what all these drugs that are subjects of class action lawsuits have in common? Well, let me tell you. THEY WERE ALL AT ONE TIME APPROVED BY THE FDA.

If people would think as critically about government as they do Dr. OZ we wouldn't have all these alphabet agencies that do nothing but drain our pockets and get in the way of living our lives.

I'm glad I passed on the coffee beans. I drink the yarba tea he recommended and love it. I don't know about weight loss. It just tastes good. Do have to be careful, though, because it is highly caffeinated.

The best way to do it is a lifestyle change period. I don't know about other people, but when I have bouts of Lupus flare, I need the extra help. It's like walking around with the flu for months at a time. If I stop the diet and exercise, the weight comes back because Lupus causes terrible food cravings for me, even peanutbutter which I both hate and am allergic to.

Fortunately for me, I finally found a healthy combination that not only stops those terrible food cravings, they help prevent the daily fainting spells too! Every day I eat a spinach salad with various raw veggies but I add fresh avocado, hard boiled egg and a little bit of walnuts. The combination of that stuff is like rocket fuel for me. I don't know why it works but that's my newest placebo and I'm quite happy about it. When I had my last super infection that took 5 years to get rid of, I became a lacto-ovo vegetarian... no kind of meat at all to help cure the infection. After the infection was gone, I unfortunately found if I do not eat meat, I get anemia, despite the fact I take B12 and iron. If I could, I'd live on those salads I make and never eat meat again!

BTW, adding fresh avocado to my diet every day helped me loose weight during Christmas when quite honestly, I should have gained weight.

Ever notice with such pills/supplements the key words are MAY or CAN, never WILL. Ask yourself if you are willing to take those supplements the rest of your life..Look how many there are out there Promising weight loss. If they worked, why are overweight people taking them still overweight and starting over with another new supplement?! If they worked, everyone taking them would be thin! True, some may contain a enzyme or a small amount of a compound that weight loss could be a possible side effect in rats, but what else is it doing to your human body? A Good Placebo, every morning when you get up, drop one coin in a contanier of your choice, a coin everyday telling yourself, with this coin my day will be wonderful and I WILL lose weight...when you reach your goal, you have all those coins saved!

Anyone who has to deal with a great amount of negativity around them, such as family members telling the dieter they can't do it, might need a crutch or a "placebo effect". Who cares as long as it works?

I have to agree with Jaime...I have been taking Pure Health Green Coffee Bean extract since July and have lost 43 lbs. I swear by this stuff as long as you also change the way you eat for the most part. If I stick to my calorie counting and logging my food I average about 2lbs a week weight loss. What I find to be the benefit of this stuff is if I have fall off the calorie counting and eat things I shouldn't i might not lose weight that week but I absolutely don't gain it.

Over my Christmas break (2 weeks) I was down 43lbs...during that 2 weeks i was so busy and ate out and ate fast food several times in addition to Christmas day binge and alcohol on New Years Eve. My goal was to enjoy my holiday but to not mess up the majority of what I had already lost. At the end of my 17 days I was at 41lbs....only a 2 pound weight gain which normally would've been a lot more based on all the crap I ate. lol

So not sure if you didn't have the right kind or you didn't take it the right way but for me it absolutely works. But I don't agree with the statement that you don't have to change the way you eat....I had to but being able to have guilt free days of enjoying a cheat day and not gaining back what i've already loss is great

I fell for the GCB spiel, too. A waste of money. I didn't start losing with my autoimmune thyroid condition until I started supplementing with vit B12 and vit D and eating veggies, lean protein, and minimal fruit and whole grains. Only then did I have the energy to be able to exercise. Weight didn't start dropping until I started to exercise no matter what or how much or little I ate.

Janna,

I too suffer from horrible insomnia. I was literally born with it. As a newborn, I only slept 8 hours a day instead of the almost 20 most do. I bet you suffer from Adrenal Exhaustion of some kind. Most people with Adrenal insufficiency will also suffer from Asthma and other terrible allergies. I know that mine don't work right. They will inappropriately release all kinds of adrenaline and I get hyped up (usually if I get really upset) then all of a sudden, my body quits producing it and I faint. My sugar will sometimes spike with no apparent reason but my doctor is positive I do not have diabetes. Then it will suddenly drop as low as 40. I will also suffer from terrible drops in blood pressure (and faint). In addition to insomnia, bad adrenals can also cause terrible food cravings including sugar because sugar fuels adrenals. Another symptom is suffering terrible lethargy especially after exercize. It is like you only have so much energy a day and exercize eats it up instead of energizing you.

If you think this is a possibility for you, see the website: http://www.womentowomen.com/adrenalhealth/naturaltreatments-adrenalfatigue.aspx It took my doctor a long time to figure out that my problems traced back to my adrenals and there hasn't been a fix of any kind offered to me. I treat it myself.

I'm sure you have already learned that insomnia promotes weight problems in addition to an entire host of other problems such as increasing stroke or heart attack risk. Please feel free to email me if you want to pick my brains, share info you've learned or just commissurate with someone suffering terrible insomnia too.

Blessings

I have horrible insomnia. This is something that I have looked at, but hesitated because of my insomnia. I pretty much have given up on all these supplements. I tired African Mango - nothing. 5htp - terrible stomach pains. Although, it did seem to help me sleep. However, my appetite was increased. then I tried Desert Burn Hoodia (worked great in 2006/2007). But, it is not what it used to be. So, there was $39 down the drain. The one thing that I do like about GCB is that it lowers BP. I can use that for a side effect. I have borderline hypertension. At $15 a bottle, I would give this a shot, if it does not intensify my insomnia.

The brands probably make a difference, too. I see they have it at Rite-Aid and Wal-Mart. I am on the maybe side of trying this. And, I swear it will be the last thing I buy to try to lose weight.

I'm actually going to be starting it too. Mine is in the mail and I should have it today or tomorrow. I'm going to start exercising too and watch my eating. I'm also slowing way down on beer since that was big downfall...I love it!! I can't wait to have my boyfriend put arms around me and not feel love handles....so embarrassing cuz he lost all his extra weight and looks great. I want to look great and feel great too and have him pround of me. He wants me to be healthy and I'm carrying lot of extra weight in belly. Let's hope this product works for both of us and lets keep in touch and compare notes. It really does help to have that extra support.

Good for you Jamie!!! I'm hoping it does the same for me. Just ordered 2 90 count bottles and hope it gives me a jump start to my weight loss. I love hearing the positive about it so hopefully it works same for me. I'm so excited too for April 30th. That's my goal of losing 23 pounds. I'm 148 not, but 5'1" and it looks aweful on me since I'm short. It's all in the gut and I'm going to try and give up beer that I love and drink almost every day (not like a lot or anything, but enough to pack on pounds).... I can't wait for my supply to come in mail. I got my from Purtian's Pride website and it has what it is supposed to have in it.... Wish me luck and thank you for sending positive feedback for the Green Coffee Bean Extract.....

Change is good!!!!

I just ordered 2 90 count bottles. I'm hoping it will give me a kick start to get moving on this flab I need to get rid of. I've also got incentive. We are getting a fixer upper boat for fishing and just having fun and I want to be able to sunbathe in a nice suit (doesn't have to be bikini)....My boyfriend got rid of all his extra weight and it seemed so simple. Women just have a harder time all together expecially when you are over 40 (I'm 47)...I'm giving myself till April 30, 2013 to get down to 125...I'm 148 now. I'm also trying to quit smoking so this is going to be a challenge. I'm hoping this Green Coffee Bean stuff helps....I've heard a lot of people say it's a good kick start to a good diet and exercise program....Thanks for the input about how it helped you.. I'm hoping it does the same for me.

For those of you that have taken the green coffee extract and it HAS worked for you could you please inbox me and tell me how long you have been on it and how much you have lost?
I am considering trying it and I know it is not a quick fix or a magic pill, but if it could aide me in what i am already doing I don't see the harm in it. I have read this entire thread so I would like to hear only from those that have tried it and it has worked for.

Do you remember when Hoodie cam to the market? It was the rage for like 6 months. Now something comes to the market and something else is right behind it. I see Dr.Oz's on 75% of them. Opaha is on less than she use to be. I use to really like Kristey Alley when she was on Cheers but now I need to get off her diet list. I'm thinking OH please. I really get tired of the crap things I would say people are pushing but I'm thinking it is really big Companies that are pushing this stuff. I think it has more to marketing than anything. The internet has become the new home shopping for junk, crap and garbage. I am really getting tired of it. I am so over loaded from it that I am buying next to nothing. I did get Dustin's core from his fit moms.

I definitely agree with you. I never took anything to lose weight. Always ate right and good old exercise always does the trick. I guess I am just looking for an alternative because there is no time for any of that with a 2 year old boy around..lol

Back to exercise with a child hanging off my limbs, lol

if the green coffee bean worked by allowing you to eat whatever and whenever you wanted, and still lose weight, then I would be all for it. But since you have to eat right and exercise anyway, along with taking the green coffee bean, then I think I would just eat right and exercise, and save my money!

I think people are very quick to judge anyone who might be interested in adding a supplement to their regime. Will a magic pill make you skinny? Of COURSE not - I don't think most people here are gullible enough to believe that. But I can say that I decided to give it a shot after 7 weeks of eating healthy and exercise, just to see if it helped at all.

I will tell you that the first week I was on it (doing nothing different from previous weeks where I had lost about 2 pounds/week), I lost almost six pounds in a week. The next week, I lost 3 pounds (again, my average before the green coffee was about 2lb/week).

I'm just going to finish the bottle and then probably go another month without using it and maybe just cycle on and off it or save it for when I get to a plateau. No, you don't NEED it to lose weight but personally, I have found it has given me some extra energy and reduced some of my hunger cravings - and I am comparing that to my first seven weeks without using it and just staying in calorie ranges and working out.

Just wanted to give a non-judgmental perspective on my own personal experience. May not work for you or it may work for you (depends on your body chemistry). But eating the right food and exercising will ALWAYS work - so just keep that in mind. Do you NEED it? Absolutely not. However, if you're like me and you're curious and can afford to give it a shot, I say why not? Just be realistic and don't think you can slide back into old habits and this pill will do the work for you. Trust me, my success has been because of MY hard work, not because of the supplement.

I bought it and it is not working for me. But I have diabetes and hypothyrodism so because of the medications I have to take might be why it isn't working.

It does say on the supplement it is not monitored by FDA and everything. They do not hide it and they are very open about it. It depends on each person's chemistry whether it will work for you or not.

I don't have diabetes I am just an ice cream pig. I could eat sugar for food but I don't. Most days I have some kind of fruit with peanut butter. Lunch I have something on salad. I eat this huge amount of spinach. I Try to eat clean. I do drink coffee. I am one of those people that if I want to relax I have a cup of coffee and I am out. I don't put Artificial Sweeteners in anything. There are people that bake with it but I really don't bake. If I bake it is a special time. I don't just have cookies in the cookie jar all the time. For most of the time we have fruit for desert. How does it go- You need to eat so many high nutrition items that you don't have room for desert. I look at fiber different than most people do. fiber is not a grain to me. Carrots and broccoli are fibers, so is spinach.
Well I got all my challenges done again today. I do have to track my food.

@LYNNBAUM Thank you. I can make a recommendation on the constant hunger thing. I will suffer that when the Lupus flares. First, eliminate Splenda and Artificial Sweeteners. They cause food cravings in 33% of the people that use them. Switch to forms of Stevia. I buy it from Walmart and even make cool-aid using it. Second, start eating as much fresh foods as possible. The more fresh fruits and veggies I eat, the fuller I actually become. I will also snack on high fiber stuff like popcorn but I microwave my own popcorn in a lunch bag without oil. Then I season it myself. Far fewer calories. See my page I posted blogs on both the splenda and the popcorn. Next tip is to always eat some kind of protein when you do eat carbs. That slows the appetite. Last, wait 20 minutes after you eat before you allow yourself something else. It takes that long for the brain to get the full signal.

You said you have diabetes which will mess with your appetite. I really recommend you start reading body type diets just to get a feel for what helps with appetite. What works for one person will not work for another. For example, my mother can live off nothing but protein and veggies. I faint out cold after 2 weeks. She gains weight as a vegitarian. I used to do well as a lacto-ovo vegitarian but after having my son, faint out cold. I must have a balance of carbs and protein or I get really sick.

I also did the coffee bean extract and got it from swansons - a reputable company.. I get my supplements from them...took it for 2 weeks, I am on low carb , was diabetic - now normal- not because of the pill- back to the pill - it did not do anything for me - I still am struggling - taking HRT- gained 8 lbs.. lost a few now stuck while the doc keeps adjusting it - still sweating - sick of this too...... emoticon

You have done more in the last few years then some people do in a life time. You are not stupid. I tell you I test marketed the 1 day diet and did I take the crap. Your are right this is the way we do learn things. I learned some really interesting things with those 16 weeks. People kept telling me things about moderation. I was test marketing it. This meant I gave my opinion of how it worked. This is where I look to my spark friends. I was starving for nutrition from the one day diet so very fast I ate nothing but high nutrition items.
I no nothing about Lupus and wont pretend I do but I use to question the whole sensa thing so I tried it. I really want to not take any of these products but I just kept thinking if there is an easy way why can't I use it.
So here is what I found out about the sensa. I get these cravings that a totally off balance person would eat. I can eat and eat and never feel any kind of full. Maybe it is the food that I would be eating but I can eat a pizza and then 2 bowls of ice cream. You did not read 1/2 a pizza because I can eat the whole pizza and then eat the ice cream and I would only stop eating because I was tired of eating and needed to do something else and never because I was full. There is something to the running thing. I was listening to a podcast called the smarted side of weight loss or something like that.
You should be feeling great. BTW I loved reading your story.
So where am I now. I watch the additives in what I eat. I love peanut butter and I don't know what I would do if I couldn't eat it. I eat it on all my fruit. Pineapple and PB is great. No bread. I hear you about the protein thing. You should see me take apart one of those hot chickens from the piggly wiggly. I end up putting it in the 50/50 salad w/salsa because salad dressing is really rough on me. I forget which precooked sausages that come in the yellow box but that is heat and eat food for me. No pancakes. no syrup. I eat real food and as clean as I can. I tell you it is really hard some days but so worth it.

when ever I see something new on the market I look it up with the word scam at the end.
Hope you have a great night. You are right this is how we learn. I want you on my side to uncover some of these scams and if something works let me know because I will blog about it.

I have Lupus which constantly makes me feel like I have the flu. Lupus when flaring causes me serious cravings like Peanutbutter which I'm not only allergic to, I don't like it. It can cause extreme protein cravings, particularly for cheese for me. The problem is when it flares, dieting causes me to actually faint. There is no food or diet that makes me feel better. All I can do is eat healthy, which I do, and hope it doesn't flare... but it does every winter anyway. I jog more than 3 miles every day. My exercize routing burns 600 calories usually 5 days a week but some weeks like this one, I only get 4 days of exercize.

I've lost 50 lbs since my husband died and even though I still have more to go, I'd rather pat myself on the back for loosing weight with such a hardship. I don't know many people who can still diet and exercize with an autoimmune disease flaring. I feel criticized for asking anyone if this supplement helped them. I live with the fainting spells and the food cravings that are brought on by illness, not diet. I'm the one that is more exhausted after exercize instead of energized and I don't feel any better now than I did 50 lbs ago.

Since I noticed that when I get my heart rate over 65% and maintain it more than 30 minutes, I start dropping weight. I learned that's because I'm burning the sugar right out of my blood stream. That supplement was touted to do the same. I was only looking to pick up a little more burn in addition to my regimin and get a little appetite suppressing going on.

I'm going to pat myself on the back anyway here. In the space of 1 year, my spouse died in my arms leaving me alone with children as young as 3 to raise, I lost my home and my daughters were victims of a crime. In that same time, I finished a Bachelors degree and a Masters degree stacking on classes, lost 50 lbs, bought a new home and quit smoking.

How I think is obviously messed up but I'm proud of myself just for still being here and raising my children. I can tell you from experience that it is absolutely possible to die from a broken heart. I'm sorry I asked the question and upset so many people and I'm sorry everyone thinks me so stupid. I asked because I was suspicious. I don't follow Dr Oz or Dr Phil

Now I am taking nothing away from Spark because I love spark but I chat about the 27 rules I live by in my blog chatthefat. It's all about how you think. hope you are logging your food because this it the #1. When you look at what you are eating ask how you can make it big food. 1 example to this is if you are having mac and cheese toss in some veggies and I'm not talking corn or potatoes. I just eat tifferent and feel great. I made this bag of rice side dish the other night, put in some cut up cooked pork and then put it over or should I say on a bed of salad. So I counted the spinach/ greens 4+ cups, 1/2 cup of the rice dish a serving of the pork and we are talking a ton of flavor and I was full. I also have a striiv that has me on the treadmill then going up and down the stairs and then back to the treadmill for another challenge. I log over 2 miles a day on the treadmill. I put the treadmil down to .5 mph when I jump off to run up and down the stairs.
If you do nothing else print out my list of concepts read them, tell me I am full of crap and really think of why you think I am wrong.
I am shocked that so mony of us here on sparks think the way I do about dr.phil and now Dr. oz. I guess there is a reason they call it a billion dollar industry.
My best to you and keep up the good work, I see you are down. It's about health more than numbers. I keep saying -people that are fighting fat may be fat but they are not stupid.
Lynn

I don't think anyone here expected these to be a magic pill. I think they hoped for some small additional help to go along with the diet and exercize. I personally burn at least 600 calories a day 5 days a week and that amounts to lots of exercizing. Sometimes I get too hungry. Unfortunately, I pass out if I don't eat enough carbs but the carbs (even the right kind) make me hungry. I know if I'm looking around a an herb I've never heard of before, I want to see what people that have tried it have to say, even if I'm not going to try it. As I said before, my mom lost 20 lbs without changing anything. It's possible that was a placebo effect.

I think the FDA is completely corrupt and needs to be disbanded altogether. We need a new one. I can give you example after example of corruption there. The most recent one coming to mind is the "pink slime" found in ground beef. Furthermore, advertising on vitamins allows a manufacturer to call something "all natural" when there's only 20% natural. Try to find a vitamin now that isn't all synthetic. Even Shaklee is "scientifically formulated" which was the catch phrase they went to when the Japanese bought them out and they started using synthetic vitamins instead of all natural.

Here is my problem with supplements of any kind ( I won't even get on my "Dr. Oz is a quack" soapbox, either)

These so-called natural supplements are not monitored by the FDA. No one is watching the manufacturer to see what they are putting in the pills. There is no external quality control system to make sure each batch works the same and is produced in a consistent, safe manner. No one is doing true effectiveness and safety studies. That means, if there are dangerous side effects, no one is going to find out about it until a lot of people die. And no one is making the manufacturer prove the product does whatever it is they claim it can do. That's why all the tv ads have those little disclaimer boxes. "This product is not meant to diagnose or treat any disease." "These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA." "Diet and exercise are recommended"
There are no magic pills. The only thing these products are designed to do is to separate you from your money! If you really want to spend money on something to help you lose weight, go buy a pair of sneakers and go for a walk.
