You may have already found the printable info...... I also just purchased the audiobook. When looking for the lists, recipes, and diagrams you go to the page where you downloaded the book. On that page you will see a PDF link by the audiobook title. If you click on the link it will bring up the information.

I also when to his website and signed up for his e-mails (I haven't received any yet) and you will receive a list of his Smart Foods in PDF form.

I am also try to pull everything together to start this journey. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I just bought the Choose To Lose audiobook by Chris Powell. Does anyone know where to get the lists, recipes, diagrams etc, found in the printed book for us audio book fans to download? I plan on starting the plan on Monday, Sept 29th. That gives me a week to finish the audiobook, plan meals, shop, and be fully prepared to start! And any advice from those of you who have been working this plan with success, is welcome!

I had found some you tube videos a day ago where he was working with Bode Vemma to design shakes etc with their product line. I checked out the book Choosing to Lose from my local library and plan to get started on this very soon. I've had no other successes. I'm hoping this will be help me and be easy to maintain for life. Good luck.

I am a physical therapist and I had the same problem. I was doing 12 hr shifts (supposed to be 8) and not eating or drinking the entire time due to rushing. I would eat a low carb or sometimes w/bread sandwich at night after work. I hardly lost any weight after six wks. I was so dehydrated that no nurses could get blood out of me, even the one that never fails. That's why I'm trying this because I know if you don't eat b-fast and other meals, you really have a hard time losing. What about 3 yogurt containers of cottage/cheese and spices or vinegrette? You can stop for two minutes and eat that I think. If you get called off you can come back to it. Just put all 3 in a insulated lunch pack by the nurses station (if you can?).

Otherwise, what about a quick protein drink that you can put in the fridge 3x's day? You should have some veggies too but I know this can be hard. These are small meals. For my hubby (at work) I'm wrapping turkey or egg salad or tuna salad in a lettuce leaf twice a day, the 3rd is cottage cheese. You can stuff some pepper slices in there for the veggies.

High carb days are easier. Turkey with whole grain muffin etc..eating that x2 Cottage cheese or yogurt with a fruit.

You may want to insist on five minute breaks where you quickly. You need the water and food. I totally get the pressure but hopefully these things will help you be able to just eat almost on the run.

I started carb cycling on 4/22 (last Monday) and I've already lost 7lbs!

LOVE IT!

It took some getting used to, but I think its a heckuva lot better then things I've tried in the past.

I'm trying to find out if there are any portable recipes like a bar or shake that Chris Powell approves of. I suppose if it does not have any of the forbidden ingredients then it should be OK right? Does he have any recipes for things that are really easy to eat on the go?

Slighshot #2/ Week #8 Weight-in: gained 2lbs back.... this leaves me at 20lbs lost total and 100lbs more to go.

Ok, quite frankly I want to sit down and cry. I want to pick up those pesky no-good scales and throw them out the window. I want to hang my head, wring my hands and slink off into a corner to sulk. BUT....

Long before I started this journey I made a promise to myself that when I fall I will not allow those moments to define me nor will I permit them become failures. Because, quite honestly for me failure is NOT an option. SO.....

~I will get up!
~I will fight!
~I will crawl across the finish line if I have to.
~I will, I will, I will!!

This was my promise when I started and it will remain my promise! So, today there be no crying, no throw of scales and no sulking in corners. Nope, not today! Rather, today, I do what I do every step of the way...I am taking it one step at a time and no matter how disappointed I feel at this moment I am resolved not to quite! I am getting up, dusting myself off and moving forward.

My shift is 2-10:30 pm with a 30 minute lunch. There is a nurse station but you are usually only there to complete documentation (charting) on patients when you can fit it in or near end of shift. Otherwise I am standing by my med cart and/or going into patient rooms to assess, patient care, etc. I think they allow water bottles but it is a new position at a new facility so I won't know rules/regs until orientation this weekend. It is rare that a nurse gets a 15 minute break; it is hard to fit in a 30 minute lunch break, especially since I will be the facility charge nurse and have to handle anything that comes up, including finding replacements for call-ins, emergencies with patients or staff, etc. I have already gone 12 hour shifts without being able to eat anything and have very little to drink so the body goes into starvation mode, making it difficult to lose weight. At least these are 8 hours shifts and the staff lounge is on the same floor so I can maybe sneak away to grab something quick sometimes. We are not allowed to eat at the nurse's station or on the floor. Thanks for taking a look at this to see if I can manage or if it may cause me more harm than good.

Hi Gracious - that sounds tough but if you are determined to try, you might find you can do it? I thought if anyone worked more than a 7 hr shift, they were entitled to at least 15 min break by law? Do you have a desk/station where you keep your stuff and report to/return to throughout the day? If so, maybe you can make a few protein shakes in the morning/night before and bring them with you in a small cooler or cold lunch bag with ice packs? If you can take 5 mins to drink water, take that 5 mins and drink some of your shake but drink water too! On low carb days, you make the shake with powder and PB. On HC days, you'd add fruit to each.

If you are on your feet that much, you are burning more calories each day than most. On low carb days, skip PB in one shake and eat almonds or string cheese. Both are very portable...
I think you'd want to look at his book and see where and how you can make modifications. I struggle with getting snacks in on low carb days because I get tired of meat or yogurt and I haven't figured it out perfectly yet but I know I'm doing better than I was!! I don't like hard boiled eggs, but if you do, that's great for taking with you.

Are you able to carry around a water bottle or drinking glass that you could use to sip your protein shakes as you move from patient to patient?

He recommends his Bod-E shakes and they come ready in a can but they are more expensive than making your own.

If you want to tell us your shift hours and weekly schedule, I bet all of us out here could provide some suggestions that might work (or might not but better to have too many suggestions than none?)
What type of food plan/regimen do you follow now?

Hi! How would this work for someone who doesn't have any breaks at work except a 30 minute lunch break - and lucky to get that. I am an RN, on my feet pretty much my entire shift, and really can't get away to have a quick bite. How does one eat every 3 hours while at work? Am struggling to get something going that will work for me and have heard of carb cycling but haven't tried it.

Yes I have tried the chocolate one, I really liked it but decided to use Shakeology and follow the meal plan as Chris has, I like the Shakeology because it has all the antioxidants in it that you are supposed to take in addition in the afternoon with the Burn drink.

The carb cycling and the build in anti-plateau slingshot week has gotten me down 14.8lbs. I am in slingshot week right now.
I am pretty close to normal weight so that is why my weight loss seems low. My friends and family say I look great. But I feel I look great too. I have been through a great big weight loss in 2009 and then slowly started to gain the weight back, gaining almost 30lbs. So I have 15.2lbs to go to get back to the weight that is really right for me.
I am so optimistic that I have FINALLY got this weight problem under control. Something about his approach to look at your body as your "pet" that you control. Proud of your body for storing the extra fat like it is supposed to. Being able to direct my body to push through a tough workout and to honor my promises to myself to go 3 hours between meals.

There is a whole lot of water and gum in between some of those meals, but it is only three hours so by the time I am truly hungry it is almost time to eat again anyway.

The tone in my arms and legs is like nothing I have ever seen on myself. I am a runner anyway so exercise is not a weakness for me, but that strength training, that's new. I have honored my promise to do body weight and weight room training each week. I have never been so ripped. It is like I am in a different body.

The mind is very strong. I am not a victim to just do as my body says. I can tell it what to do.

So what exactly is Carb Cyling? Carbohydrate cycling is a sercret weapon in the health and fitness indrustry... used for over 30 years to maximize fat loss while maintaining muscle...the back and forth cycle of high calorie/ high carb days and low calorie/ low carb days revs your metabolic furnace and makes your body think it's eating enough on low carb days so it keeps on burning calories and thus fat! So on high carb days your raising your metabolism so on low carb days you will burn off body fat! And that is carb cycling!

What to expect on a high carb day...on high carb days you'll notice a nice boost of energy and a rise in your body temperature and you'll sustain high energy all day long!!...at night you may even notice a rise in your body heat and may even have night sweats
.
What to expect on low carb days...you'll have decreased energy levels and body temperature...don't worry if you feel a tad tired and sluggish....your mind might even become a bit foggy at first...this is all normal because your body is not taking in high amounts of carbs....and its only temporary. Having high/ low energy swings from one day to the next only means your on the right track and your body is losing fat!!

I started Chris Powell's carb cycling this week. After being on Atkins I was sure I was going to gain by eating carbs, especially rice and bread. I'm not sure if I followed everything exactly like he said, but I tried to make sure I ate 5 times a day and I did eat carbs :-o. It was a little more difficult to pre pack meals for work, but I did it thanks to meal bars a few times. In one week I've lost 1lb. That's really good since I'm pretty close to my goal. I think I'm going to continue!

I'm normally just read posts, but I just wanted to say that I've been trying to follow Chris Powell's carb cycling program since July and so far I've lost 27lbs. I started out at 243lbs and now weigh 216lbs. Now I don't follow it to exact precision but I try to stay as close to his program as possible. For example I rarely eat 2 cups of veggies per meal, and I will eat cheese pretty much every day instead of just on low carb days. I don't know exactly how many carbs Chris wants a person to eat on low/high carb days (I don't remember him mentioning it in his book). For me as a borderline diabetic I try to stay around 45g per meal and 15g per snack (2 a day). I've been kinda stuck at the same weight now for over 2 weeks but hopefully it will start going down again :) I was stuck at 220 for almost 4 weeks and then went down 4lbs. So I stay hopeful even though it's frustrating at times!

TJANDJESS I don't work out of my home...but would suggest if you have a microwave at work to make extra big diners at home to freeze then take them to work...if you don't have a microwave at work pack a shaker and take a protein powder with you. hope this helps. emoticon

BF, I am also doing classic and love it. When you do your high carb day, just remember to eat healthy carbs (nothing white, bread, rice, potatoes) stick to the whole grains such as brown rice, sweet potatoes and 100% whole grain breads, oatmeal, whole grain cereal). You can eat fruit on your high carb days but don't over do it. On your low carb days just eat like you are used to on the Atkins diet except you can have carbs with protein for breakfast (only breakfast on the low carb day). I also noticed that you are eating 6 meals, it should actually be 5 meals, one every 3 hours. Good luck and keep asking questions, this is a great site to get all the answers you need. We have a great team emoticon

I really enjoy a whole wheat 12 grain bread with peanut butter. Love light and fit yogurt from Dannon (only 80 calories) 12 grm of protein and only 8carbs and when I am on the go and need to take a meal with me, Revups from Hormel are great too, they are single serving wraps for one, good source of protein and carbs. Delmonte also makes fruit cups with no sugar added, they use splenda and they taste great. Hope this helps emoticon

I have been doing Atkins which has been working (very slowly) for me. I would like to be able to eat carbs in moderation during maintenance so I bought Chris Powell's book. I am very busy at work so the eating every 3 hours worries me. For me that schedule would be:
First breakfast: 5am
Second breakfast: 8am
Lunch: 1130
Snack: 2:30
Dinner: 6pm
Snack: 9pm
Does that look right?
What kinds of meals and snacks do you all put together for high carb days? For low carb days? Thanks

Hi - I'm so glad I found this thread. I just started carb cycling after reading Chris' book. I'm on week 3 and so far so good. The 1st week I lost 7 lbs and 2 the 2nd week. I'm having trouble getting all my calories in though. I need some recipes because I'm eating pretty plain meals. Is this weight loss typical?

I agree completely. This has been the easiest diet I have tried. I actually lost 30lbs on Weight Watchers and it worked for me but it was not as easy as this. I don't feel like I am on a diet at all. It has been great emoticon

First of all this is just a thread, the teams are separate from the message boards, and have their own threads. So most of the people seeing this have no idea who Chris Powell is, or what carb cycling is.

As a low carber on Atkins, I endorse cutting carbs, and cleaning up which ones we eat, but not familiar with this way of eating at all. I do watch his show sometimes, but they all seem to be the same. They barely make it one quarter, and struggle to be approved for the surgery, but then they live happily ever after. It is inspiring to see people lose weight, and nice to hear that others are experiencing the same struggle we all face, but it is a bit too edited for me. All we see are the success stories.

The idea of high and low carb days will work for some people, so for those people I feel happy. I just prefer all of my days to be low carb.

Happy to say I am feeling great this morning after a High Carb day. Today is Low Carb, but I will add beans to one of my meals, and see how I feel. Also dropped 1 lb overnight, I know, don't weigh every day, but it seems to keep me accountable for my actions.

You bet carb cycling is something I intend to do for the rest of my life!! It gives me energy and keeps me in control of foods and it allows me to have that odd treat you would not be allowed on a "diet". so yep its something I would be able to stick to like forever!! you should try it...its awesome!! lol I was eating every 3 hours already way before I heard of carb cycling! Its called grazing...and grazers are naturally thinner then non grazers. emoticon its a given. emoticon

LAMOURA I was doing a search on Chris Downie, and Chris Powell came up in the search results. Since I've been a long time fan of Chris Powell's show, and had heard he had a special diet (carb cycling) that is never discussed on TV, I thought it might be discussed here, so read the thread. It is not something I would seek out by googling online, but but since I was on SP and had the link right there in front of me and had always wondered about his diet . . .

As I understand it, this thread topic is . . . well . . . a thread topic. I am certainly not joining a group or a team.

So since you say it's not a diet but a change of lifestyle habits, would you describe his carb cycling as something you could do every day for the rest of your life? And plus, eat every 3 hours for the rest of your life?

I wish much success to those who try it and find it works for them. Everyone must find their own path on this Journey.

Well, I have to say that i will be starting this plan tomorrow. I will be trying to make a bunch of food in advance and the sides of carbs or veggies etc will have to be added as needed. I sure hope that i can get the hang of this and its not as complicated as it looks. I am looking for something that is easy to stay on and that i can be comfortable with. WIsh me luck and i will try to post again tomorrow and see how things are going. Off to go meal plan for the next few days.

I love Chris Powell and watch his Extreme WeightLoss Makeovers on Hulu.com - very inspiring.

However, I prefer the No S Diet. The common-sense, return to great-grandma's way of eating, destroys food obsession and diet obsession. You CAN live FREE of diet rules, you know.

However I do not eat processed foods.

Thanks Lamoura, as I have been veggie for many many years, I understand where protein is for veggies. I was hoping someone was in my situation trying to do carb cycling as a veggie, and had suggestions for protein other than tofu, tvp, tempeh on this program. I seem to be the only one. I will keep on trying with the above proteins and occasionally add in beans etc which are carbs and protein, as I do experience fatigue after low carb days, although these past few days it seems to have disappeared. Maybe I didn't give it enough time. Thanks very much for your effort.
