I LOVE the PC Blue Menu Smoothie Bars (in Canada). Available in flavors Mango Peach, Strawberry Banana, Vanilla, or Field Berry, they range from 80-100 calories. A great sweet treat, and I'm sure you could find something similar in the States.

Lost 65lbs in 15 months to get healthy and in top shape to try to get pregnant, and succeeded! Had our first baby in February 2013!

I only gained 32lbs in my pregnancy (and immediately lost half within a few weeks of his birth). April 1st is my full restart date.

Sugar snap peas work for me in a pinch. Of course, I would rather eat them covered in ranch dressing but they are plenty tasty and crispy just plain. My toddie daughter likes them too so it's like a game in it of itself. She is two.

I try to avoid ice cream and "treats" as a regular sweet snack because they aren't satisfying at all. At lunch, I eat my sweet potato last and add a bit of almond milk and stevia so it's like dessert- seriously soo good. Before bedtime, I have 1/2 cup greek 0% yogurt thinned out with water, plus 1 T flax, 1/2 T agave (you could use splenda, stevia, or honey), and berries. it's just as sweet, thick and creamy as ice cream but with SO much sticking power, it almost always kills my urge to snack. Or at least makes it bearable :) Low-cal Ice cream or a small piece of chocolate/cookie would just make me want more & not do anything to quell the snack urges.
Acquire a taste for healthy sweet foods that move you towards your goals. Save the real treats (cookies, ice cream) for special occasions :)

I just found Breyers low fat sugar free neopolitan ice cream, and at 90 calories per 1/2 cup, it's perfect! It also has only 4 grams of sugar compared to the 30+ grams in regular ice cream!

What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?

When I have a sweet craving and no extra calories to allow indulgence, I like to eat something crispy such as carrot sticks or something hot and sweet like (no sugar added) Swiss Miss hot cocoa at 60 calories per serving. It's hot, so it takes me a while to drink it...it's chocolate and I love that....has a sweet taste too. It does it for me.

Happy calorie counting...

I chew gum a lot, which often helps—esp. when I experiment and try new flavors, for a little treat. Also, when I really need candy, a few dark chocolate peanut M&Ms seem to be a somewhat healthier alternative, (about 10 are around 100 calories...) but I really have to be careful about portion control on those! My husband has a scoop or two of Breyer's Carb Smart (sugarfree) ice cream in the evenings, and finds it is wonderful and very satisfying (sometimes with a little peanut butter, banana, nuts, or sugarfree chocolate syrup—if he budgets for the calories!) We both find almond butter to be a satisfying snack, too—right from the jar, eaten with a spoon!

So, when I want something really sweet, I'll dry-fry some bananas in some butter flavored Pam spray. Cook them gradually on a low temperature and they'll get just slightly crispy on the outside... not to mention the natural sugars in the fruit caramelize just slightly to sweeten the fruit a bit... so good! Done with apples it's similarly wonderful.

It's hard in the beginning, but the more you keep away from overly sweetened food and sweeteners (even the non-calorie ones like Stevia and Splenda - no calories, but you're not training yourself away from that sweet tooth, either) you'll be shocked at how sweet fruits are. I can't even use the non-calorie sweeteners anymore.. they make things too sweet for me!

For me it just depends on if I need to actually eat or if it's just a craving. If I need to eat I will grab a small granola bar or the new Fiber one brownies both are only 90 calories. Sometimes a piece of fruit is good enough a Cutie is only about 35 calories. Other times when I know I don't need a snack or a meal I will grab a sugar free hard candy or sugar free gum.

Some people say that the sugar free makes it worse because you are not really satisfying your craving but it works for me.

I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. -Michael Jordan

Fiber One chocolate fudge brownies @ 90 calories each. These have helped me out this week at times when my willpower is waning and I'm feeling the need for something sweet. They are moist, taste rich, and get me through the craving, although they are a little on the small side. And there is the benefit of the additional fiber. There's also sugarless hard candies and fruit, of course. emoticon

I go for a square or two of good quality dark chocolate. I've found that trying to "substitute" other foods when I've got a chocolate craving just doesn't work--I'll end up eating the piece of fruit, then another an hour later, before finally just caving and eating a whole lot more chocolate than I would have if I'd just enjoyed a small bit in the first place!

I do Chex Mix Muddy Buddies - they taste so good, like they would be really bad. But a 1/3 cup serving is not that bad..4.5 g fat.

Lot's of good ideas here. In addition to the ones I saw, here are three that work for me:

1. Fiber One 90-Calorie brownies (or other varieties)
2. York Peppermint Pieces. They are the size of M&Ms and have the crunchy shell. Best of all you get a chocolate fix with low calories (50 pieces=170). I usually am satisfied with about 10 after lunch and 10 after dinner, which if you do the math is just only 34 calories in 10 pieces!
3. Since we all have to take calcium anyway (or most of us), I use the chocolate chews as a treat. Two for one benefits! (I buy the generic ones at Costco).

I have 18 Pillsbury Sugar Free cupcakes in the oven. I used 1/2 cup applesauce and egg whites. So each cupcake is 85 calories and these are regular size cupcakes.

I haven't tasted one yet, but the batter was good. This might be something you could try if it wouldn't be a trigger food for you. My grandson's birthday is today and my daughter and I wanted cake too, so that's why I'm making them.

We shall see...

dried fruit that's still high in fiber like Craisins (they have 3g of fiber per serving). The sweetness hits the spot plus the fiber keeps me full by digesting slowly...chocolate oats Fiber One bars are great too (9g of fiber).

I like Fage nonfat (0%) Greek yogurt sweetened with some Splenda and a drizzle of honey.

I also LOVE dried pineapple. A single ring is very satisfying. Other dried fruits are also sweet (e.g. papaya, apricots, raisins, etc.). Dried fruits can be a good source of many nutrients (e.g. dried apricots and raisins have a lot of potassium).

I say, eat something sweet. What ever it is I want. The trick is to portion it, only eat that much and staying within my calorie range for the day. Also, I really savor what I am eating by eating it slowly in small bites, enjoying every bit of goodness. Food tastes so good to me this way and I am satisfied with less.

I love a sliced banana with a light drizzle of chocolate syrup and a dollop of cool whip. Tastes just like banana split but without the ice cream. Sometimes I eat 1/2 the banana, other times I go for the whole banana.
I also like to mix 1/2 container of yogurt with equal parts of light cottage cheese. It sounds weird I know. However, for the same volume of food that you'd get from 1 container of yogurt, by replacing 1/2 of it with the cottage cheese you cut out 1/2 the sugar of the yogurt and you add extra protien from the cottage cheese. I've done it with several flavors and liked them all because the cottage cheese takes on the flavor of what ever yogurt flavor you choose.

The Skinny Cow clusters are also fabulous.

I use this protein powder called promasil. It is a canadian made brand with only protein (no carbs or bulking filler). It is marketed to athletes and not bodybuilders.

I mix a packet of prepared instant plain oatmeal with a half scoop of the soft serve vanilla flavour for something that tastes like a mix between vanilla cupcake batter and oatmeal cookie batter. It is good hot or cold.

Promasil is available at GNC in Canada, or off their website. I'm not sure if they have an american retailer.

I eat fruit or whole wheat bread with peanut butter and jelly. That being said, sometimes you have to give in to the feeling. I don't keeps sweets in my home, so I'll go to a local shop and get something. They are homemade and the pastry chef uses wheat, natural sweeteners and fresh fruit. Starbucks also has less than 200 calorie treats. Of course, sometimes you gotta have ice cream.

Slim Fast 3 2 1 Peanut Butter Crunch Time bars taste exactly like a Butterfinger candy bar, but are only 100 calories. I hate it when people or articles suggest that I replace the chocolate that I am craving with an apple, or celery or carrot sticks because I am probably going to still want the taste of the chocolate and end up eating it too. So I have looked for lower-calorie snacks that fulfill the taste craving of the higher-calorie items.

If this isn't your thing, have some greek yogurt with fresh fruit or some honey drizzled on top. This will give you that salty-sweet taste you want. I use greek yogurt on lots of stuff as a replacement for sour cream or to just eat by itself.

Eat a small piece, maybe a square of 70% or more, dark chocolate. The cocoa is a little bitter and will quell the cravings. Artificial sweeteners cause intense cravings for sweets so please avoid eating those sweeteners with anything and no soda or diet soda. Have a hard boiled egg, the protein will help the craving. Eat frozen blueberries, they are tasty and very good for your health. Bananas that are ripe have lots of sugar, watermelon, actually most melon so stay away from those fruits, instead eat apples, pears, plums, peaches, kiwi, cherries and any kind of berries. Between meals have a good snack like a few almonds, pistachios, or walnuts because waiting too long between meals can cause cravings. Have two Graham Crackers with a smidgen of peanut butter, or oatmeal with cinnamon and a pat of butter, a small 100 calorie bag of popcorn. Take a cinnamon supplement of 500MG and omit anything white from your diet like bread, potatoes, white rice. Good Luck!

I buy tons of herbal sweet teas: bengal spice, sugar plum, chai chocolate. I find the sweet tea keeps my cravings down. I also get walden farms sugar free syrups and Davinci sugar free syrups to use on yogurt.

First let me say that I do not like chocolate or most candies. But I do crave something sweet once in a while and I will eat one of those measured fruit cocktail cups or apple sauce.
For a while I craved something sweet to go with my oatmeal breakfast. I added a tablespoon of prune jam that has no sugar added and lots of Cinnamon. In fact, I add cinnamon to a lot of things when I want something sweet, it seems to help.

Also when I started my program I did away with adding any sugar, salt, milk and white flour.
However; I make my own yogurt and eat cheese from time to time.
Salt is my big problem and no potato chip is safe in my view, so my wife does not buy them.
Bottom line, you have to experiment with some different choices and see if it will fit your program and life style.
