It won't let you private message them because they were scammers. They only posted a few times, all about their wonderful magic secret that they would tell you about if you gave them your credit card information. They were ripping people off and they got kicked off of this site.

Yes, thanks for explaining to people that the only reason they don't understand how great Visalus is, is because it hasn't been explained properly to them. Once you clear it up for them, they can understand how stupid their objections to replacing food with a " healthy " shake was.

Also want to send out a warm welcome to 90 % of the supporters of the products. Welcome to SP, as I see that for most of you, it is your first post.

I have just recently started the Vi shakes, I am on day 3. I am refusing to weigh myself until I have done a week. I have read so many mixed reviews until I am just unsure if Vi is right for me or not. I am going to finish my 30 day supply and switch to another brand. Good luck to all of you that are trying to shed the pounds.

There are better meal replacements out there. Check the ingredients of that stuff. Not good.

I completely agree with Russell 39. A friend of mine who believes she has ten pounds to use is promoting this to me and sent me a link about how great this is for children to use as well.

I have to agree... before I got married last month, I was taking the Almased shakes from GNC and drinking lots of water and vegetable broth for about 1 month. I also stayed off alcoholic beverages. I lost weight, about 15lbs of the 30 I wanted to lose but started too late. But as soon as I got to Mexico and started eating (and the resort had lots of healthy options and portions) I'd gained almost 7lbs back. I didn't go overboard with my eating in Mexico at all, but when I came back I noticed I was a little heavier and thicker again than before we left home. I also worked out.. nothing strenuous... but some weight training and walking and I know that helped. But I love Spark People because I can still eat food and even drink healthy shakes made from fruit and veggies and still lose the weight. When I got back from Mexico I decided that I needed to come back to Spark People. The quick fixes now scare me.

Hi FOXHERB - I just finished reading your message about the VI shakes, and the amazing amount of weight you have lost. I have also read that once you stop taking the shakes, that weight goes back on, and that one should eat real food. My question to you, or to anyone out there, is: can one drink, say a shake a day, and the other meals be real food? I am new to all of this and would really appreciate your opinion. Thanks.

In early March, weight 211, I started using Visalus shakes. Today, August 9, I weigh around 175. And, I feel better than I have felt in 25 years, back in the days when I used to run marathons. I'm riding a hybrid bike 18 miles a day on average, wearing 34" waist pants again, as I said, I feel better physically and mentally than I have in 25 years. My daughter, a former D1 hockey athlete who stopped playing hockey after developing an eating disorder, recently started using the Visalus shakes and the vitamin packs. She is losing weight but more importantly, since she developed PTSD after being hit by a car while in HS, has recently told my wife that, "I"ve found the thing that has been missing for so long." Bottom line is that they, like many other things, are a tool that can be used by that muscle that runs between your ears.

Why would you want to replace your delicious healthy food with shakes.

There are only 2 reasons to use meal replacements

1. You are a bodybuilder trying to add mass, and can't possibly eat enough protein, so you drink it.

2. You are too lazy to cook 3-4 meals a day, even if it might prevent your early demise.

Since 99% of the people on SP are trying to lose weight, and mass, they are on a diet of less than 2000 calories, which should be rather simple to cook, and eat. There is probably not ONE person on here who SHOULD be using meal replacements. Eat real food. There is no shake, or bar made yet, that is as delicious, or nutritious as real food.

I took shakes and what happens when you stop is you take the weight back on and more. Unless you are willing to take them FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, don't start.
It's unhealthy to lose 4 lbs a week, and let's be realistic here, if I drink shakes all day every day for a week, I will likely lose 4 lbs too. Yes it's cheaper then buying fresh fruits and veggies, but I'll spend a little more and get real vitamins, fibers and antioxidants from real food any day before chugging artificial ones. It's a pyramid thing, another reason I am not interested, and from what I've read, the company is going through law suits and rated low on the Consumer Market index. Spark has always showed us to eat well balanced meals and exercise, that's how you get results, be it a little slower - but at least I know the weight will stay off forever because I am learning to eat and cook well and changing my lifestyle. emoticon

i am only replying to the beginner of this topic- i don't have time to read everybody else's replies (:i know there are varying opinions though, and i want to throw my 2 cents in.
i myself have been on vi shakes for about a month and a half now. i exercise regularly, and am speeding towards a healthier, happier life. it may not be "necessary", but for me it works. its easy, tastes good, and nutricious. i do not feel i am paying too much- $100 a month for the shakes has saved me much more than that in grocery bills.
i was turned onto vi by a friend who has been using it. her brother-in-law has lost over 100 pounds using it, she has lost 20, as i almost have.
like i said, i exercise regularly. i don't use this as my only method, and i don't think i am unhealthy. i still have snacks and dinner, and almost always meet my carb, fat, protein, and calories on my tracker. i don't think anybody is perfect with that though, but what these shakes do for me is help me easily track my daily caloric intake and reduce it significantly. they keep my full as long as i ever was when i was eating 3 meals a day.
and yes, i realize this is not a lifetime change. its called a 90 day challenge for a reason, its meant to help you lose weight, gain control of your hunger and urges, and slowly help you develop a healthier lifestyle.
even if people recommend it to you because they will get the "3 for free" deal, so what? that's because they believe in it. if they didn't, they wouldn't keep using the shakes and therefor wouldn't care if they had a free month.
anyway, its always good to hear both sides of the story, so you can form your own opinion. like i said, just wanted to throw my 2 cents in!

have a good day and good luck (:

I am on the shape kit from ViSalus. I am on day 4 and lost 4lbs already. You don't have to exercise with it, but obviously if you do you will get better results. My dad is also doing it. He is 15 days in and 16.2 lbs down. Plus the shakes taste good. It is kind of expensive, but I am just redistributing my portion of the grocery money to go toward it.

I dont understand why people go on these types of programs or pay for any diet, plan, pillor anything. They may be good for some people and work really well. For me if it isnt something I can do, buy and enjoy until the day I die, I wont consider it. I think this is the biggest reason why I have never paid for any diet plan, pill, or anything for better health and weight loss.

I am not always a fanatic of cooking or having to pack my own lunch and eat in a lot. I do it though because my health is important, my budget isnt very friendly, and figuring out what food choices and how to prepare or cook everything for my life works best.

If you are wanting something to help you lose weight like these products I have found one that is absolutely fabulous the best thing about it is you don't have to drink only shake all the time you can actually eat. I have lost 15lbs in 8 days. It is more than just weight loss. The program is about getting you healthy. I feel better than I have in a long time. I don't want to offend people by putting a sales ptich out on this website. But if you are interested you can message me.

I was going to be a vendor of that but in reality.. can people live off of shakes for the rest of their lives.??? What happens when you loose all that weight, you go back to what... FOOD!

It does nothing about teaching you how to eat right, nor does it teach you about what foods to eat... it does one good thing really well which is.....

taking your sweet $$$$ out of your pocket

Why be separated from your $$$$ When you can grow real food for free in your own garden ?

I enjoy my Vi Shakes, and sometimes I cook with the mix too.
I have severe RD and preparing food is sometimes an issue, I can't stand at the counter or stove for very long and sometimes I can't even cut an apple with a knife, or bite it because of my jaw. So, being able to have a shake instead and still be getting some nutrition is very helpful for me.
I am a promoter. But, I don't push it. I simply give people (who ask me) my website address and if they want to order it they can go there and do that on their own and if not that's fine too.
Most of the time I do get my shakes for free (because I usually have at least 3 customers), which is also a deciding factor for using Vi Shakes as apposed to buying from a health food store or wherever.

It's not what you do once in a while; it's what you do day in and day out that makes the difference.

I missed chewing!!! Lets face it most of us are over weight because we like to eat!! With the shakes I felt cheated like my meal was done and over way too soon. Yes I felt full and satisfied but just could not get past the fact that I had not ate (chewed) anything.

What ever tool or tools helps you reach your goals are great. We have to keep in mind that we have to learn to eat healthier and get out and move.

Your body is the baggage you must carry through life. The more excess the baggage, the shorter the trip.

I've been using the Visalus shakes to lose weight since January. I was tired of bouncing around with constant water weight and plateaus. I'm also eating every three hours and have completely changed the way I eat. I've never been a sucker for gimmicks and this isn't one. I'm also using a personal trainer and nutritionist to help with what I am eating and doing for exercise. ViSalus works if you incorporate it as part of a system. I've seen amazing results. I'm extremely satisfied and recommend it highly as part of a lifestyle change.

**The problem with meal replacement programs and many other caloric restrictive diets and programs is that people lose fat at the expense of also losing lean muscle tissue. These solutions are also part of the problem. Losing only fat is part of the challenge. Keeping the fat off long-term is another and even greater challenge of all. We lose lean-muscle tissue as we age, so when you compound the problem of losing lean muscle tissue over time by adding in a caloric restrictive program, you're really setting yourself up for long-term failure. Everybody can relate to this situation. Lifestyle changes and behavior modification is a given in order to achieve long-term weight-management success. Most people also don't realize that they have metabolic dysfunction from years of dieting abuse. There are some definite strategies to win the battle against fat, and pretty soon, a breakthrough innovation will become available that will help regulate the metabolic dysfunction part of the equation. This will be a "game changer" in the war against fat-loss and obesity as it targets the behavior of the "fat-genes". The Discovery Channel will begin airing a documentary on this breakthrough gene-based weight-management solution in December. It's not a silver bullet, and you still have to do everything else, but it does add a whole new exciting dimension to the weight-control landscape.**

You are absolutely right! You hit the nail on the head. I have used Shaklee's CInch meal replacements and they do not create this problem. I found out through them that Body by VI's meal replacements are only 90 calories and contains sucralose. No wonder you would loose your muscle mass using their meal replacement. Come on a 90 calorie meal? Seriously? Not healthy if you ask me. Shaklee's meal replacements contain Leucine, which is supposed to help you keep your muscle mass while you lose weight, which other meal replacements don't do. They are redoing their meal replacements starting this Jan, so that they now will contain 10 grams of sugar instead of the 16 grams that are in their current shakes, and they also got rid of the fructose and replaced it with cane sugar and stevia. Shaklee's meal replacements are at least 200 calories and more if you mix with milk and or fruits and veggies. All of Shaklee's products are clinically proven in studies that are published in peer reviewed journals. So if you are really interested in trying a clinically proven, healthy meal replacement program, that will help you keep your muscle mass, please send me a private message. I am not allowed to advertise my business's website links on here.

But it ain't about how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done.

Here's my 2 cents... (and this is to the whole thread not just to MELODYS640 ;-) )

I spent about a year going from 172 to 159 lbs. through exercise and "dieting" ... I did one 90 Day Challenge and went from 159 lbs. to 142 lbs. I am currently on my second 90 Day Challenge to gain some lean muscle. I am doing 2 shakes per day plus exercise 5-6 days/week. I'm currently back up to 145 lbs. The shakes work for me. And surprise emoticon , someone does make money from me buying them, maybe most of the stores you shop at are all not-for-profits but the stores I buy from are businesses. If I would have know about Visalus when I weighed 172 lbs. I could have saved about a year of work. You can dig a hole with a spoon but a shovel would make more sense... right tool for the job.

My 2 sisters and I have tried it. Me and one of the sisters actually gained weight doing the shakes, however my other sister actually lost weight. Personally old fashioned portions control and exercise seem to be the only thing that works for me. I was hoping for a jump start with the shake. Best of luck to anyone who is trying it. And great job for people who have lost drinking the shakes.

I have been on Visalus for a while now and I have lost 80 pounds. I still have 30 more to go and I feel fantastic! I think that this is a great choice for anybody from Obese to Skinny. About replacing meals; at first I was scared that I was not going to be able to do it but it was easy and delicious. About the MLM; I think that anywhere that you go and buy anything the money goes to somebody so I don't pay attention to that. You don't have to join and be a promoter if you don't want to. If you just want to pay every month for your supplements you do it, if you want to be a customer and try to get it for free you can do that too and if you want to make a business out of this then its your choice. But the products are fantastic and when I reach my goal I will continue to use them as a postworkout shake. There were a couple of time that I had to stop the program and for my surprise I didn't gain weight but I didn't go and ate everything either. Any program that you start or even if you diet and excersise; if you stop and go back to old bad habits, will make you gain weight.

About the MLM thing....it's absolutely an MLM. I know because a friend talked me into it a while ago and you lose your status if you don't maintain so much in sales per month. And those above me benefited if I sold product. Needless to say I dropped it...I was upfront from day one I would not sell anything and she sucked me in only to disregard what I said and I said and she pressured me every week. We are not friends anymore.
As for the product...it's all the same thing. I found I like apex products the best, and I can buy at my own leisure !

There have been a couple times that I had to do a liquid diet because of a medical test the next day.

All I could think was, I can't wait to get off of this thing and go back to real food.

When I was able to eat real food again I usually over ate.

My verdict is that Shakes are boring and I would rather eat real food.

Made it to my maintenance weight of 125 pounds.

Even though I have reached goal. I still don't know everything about weight loss.

I tried it, as a friend was selling it, and the shakes tasted good, and I did lose weight following their diet and exercise plan, however I quickly realized that I could meet the same calorie/nutrition requirements easily with better food choices, without being commited to drinking 2 shakes a day to lose weight, so I opted for healthier food instead. I don't like MLMs as a general rule, they turn regular people into pushy greedy people.

I think it's better to lose weight and tone the old fashioned way, aka through diet & exercise. If you start to lose weight with a supplement or visalus products, I don't think it helps you to learn about what foods and nutrients your body needs. You learn that you need these two shakes a day and have no idea what real food to eat. How long do you sty on it for? Do you just keep paying however much money for the rest of your life if you find out it works? Or do you learn to eat healthier?

I also much prefer to eat my calories versus drinking them and I certainly would rather not spend tons of money on this stuff when I could be spending a lot less and still lose weight and be healthy.

I totally agree Dragonchilde...But people keep in mind EVERY business is out there to make money and some share more than others with the employees.

I work at a liquor store and even he gives a quarterly bonus for high sales....in the end I would rather work with a company that rewards me for my help in their success than for a huge corp that looks at me as expendable when the new college grads work for less.

I just met a lady who has lost fifty pounds doing these "challenges" who didn't even know sparkpeople was here...so no support.

I have been on spark for years and haven't managed to lose hardly anything, So I will be trying these shakes for two of my meals and IF they work I will be a return customer for life.....and why not share that success with others? I tell everyone about spark because I have seen what it can do for some people. I just can't seam to make it work for me for more than a month or two at a time, but that doesn't stop me from telling people.

Mini Goals -
1- Work out six days a week at the gym
2- Be in the 170's for vacation April 1st.
3- Stay focused on good eating habits and stay away from processed foods.
4- Stay focused on running. I want to be able to run three miles straight no stopping before my first true race this summer....Date to be announced later.Currently I can run .5 miles no stopping.

Err... disagree with it being an MLM? It IS a MLM.

It's entire business model is based around multi-level marketing. There's not really anything to disagree with. Amway, Mary Kay and Avon are too.

I personally think it is just like any other shake diet. If that is what you need, more power to you. If it works, fine. I do however disagree with it being an MLM. However, it does taste good and if it gets someone on their way to a healthier them, so be it.

If at first you don't succeed, try try again.

I so agree with you... No one should be disrespectful of others on these posts....

I have been on ViSalus products for about 30 Days now and can tell you first hand it has been a long time since I have felt this good..... The shakes are really amazing and are providing me with a lot of the nutrition that I was missing 1) Because I would skip meals do to lack of time or just no interest because nothing sounded good. 2) I so dislike having to measure everything and count count calories. 3) The product really does taste great

SparkPeople has been an amazing help to me in so many ways....
Teaching us how to set goals
Tracking
Reaching out to others
They have also should us that we can speak or minds as long as we are not putting others down.

So to all that post.... Thank you!!!! Keep reaching for your goals.... You can do anything you really want to...

I have been on it for 3 weeks and have lost 8 lbs. I do not follow it strictly and I have fibromyalgia so I do not do a lot of vigorous exercise. My biggest problem is never being hungry enough for 2 shakes a day and I'm always way under my calorie goal. I use it with juice and frozen fruit and that makes it taste nice, but I love food and some days it does get boring. Outside of that the rest of my diet consists of chicken, fish, and steak with some kind of vegetable on the side. If anyone else who is taking it has ideas on how I can eat more calories please send me a message!

The thing is, if the products were really any better than supermarket brands, they could sell them retail and make a fortune. Anytime a product has a whole complicated distributorship network, that means the network is the real source of income because the product isn't special enough to make it in regular retail. These products probably aren't bad, but they're no different from Slim-Fast and Opti-whatever that you can buy for half the price at your corner grocery.

And when you buy it retail, you can quit if you don't like it and no one will know or care. When there's a distributor involved, you are going to have to deal with phone calls or even visits where they'll make you explain why you don't want it anymore. How embarrassing and unpleasant is that going to be, especially if the reason you're quitting is that you lost your job or you're moving or you're trying for a baby, or something personal like that? I have enough friends and relatives getting in my business; I don't need to have to explain myself to my powdered shake dealer too!

I recently stopped selling it. I wish I never would have got in it. I was severly pushed to join. I attened a conference not long ago in kansas city. what a ton of hype. They overload teh search engines,so good luck on finding real people. They tell you all of teh things you wanna hear , but to stay in, you must make them to money. the ones I thought were my friends no longer are. tehy leave when you leave the company. tehy are constantly showin gyou their lifestyle. constans posts, phone calls, and by the way, teh "team calls" are so pushy, and if you are not making they money, they crawl your butt. anyway, tehy show you their lifestyle but what peole need to really understand is that no matter what, you will never get to their level in this comapny; we are their money resouces! The shakes are alright, but many of us, and they dont want anyone to know, many of us have lost money, lost friends, and gained weight.yes, gained weight. dont belive teh hype, in a few years, they will have ridden this wave to the end of it and will then start another company. They are really great at hype!

I have a lot of friends on this and trying and it works for many, many of them. This being said - I have lost 120lbs the hard way of calorie counting, exercising and being strict. I have baout 30-40lbs left to go and I have come between a rock and a hard place.

SO, I am trying the Body by Vi shakes for a month at least to see if it will help me get straightened out with my food. My work schedule (get up at 4am, work 5am-2pm) and where I work makes it hard to stay on track with my food and prepping it - and I think these will help. I will still be counting calories with these shakes and exercising though.

Ok. Then you could just take the link off by clicking on the EDIT button.

Most everyone already knows how to do a google search so it isn't necessary to direct them to this particular seller's page.

good luck!

I totally agree. I am NOT selling the shakes, but I have been using them for a week and I love them. They are so many different flavors you can make. My favorite right now is Almond Joy. I have tried so many things to control my appetite and nothing worked, but these shakes really work for me. They are not expensive, 60 meals for $100.00. I LOVE sweets. Anything chocolate, but since I have been using these shakes, my cravings have went away. I haven't had any sweets since I started the shakes. If you knew me you would know how unbelivable that is. Here is a link to some recipes for the shakes, thought you might enjoy.

my friend uses them. she and i have a huge dieting problem because no matter what, we are always hungry. i have tried increasing protein, eating whole grains, increasing fiber, not eating processed foods, drinking a ton of water...none of that crap works for me. i'm still hungry. healthier maybe, but still chubby and hungry.

she has lost about 13 lbs in 2-3 weeks on these shakes. she says they keep her so full she has a hard time meeting her 1200 calorie goal. i, on the other hand, do not use the shakes and have a hard time staying under my 1500 calorie maximum.

I also would like to add that if these products are your choice that is fine, however, to imply that people's TICKER'S on the SP site are not moving is quite the off colored remark. One, to imply that it is do to them NOT using Visalus products.....which is NOT food & also you don't know these people, their struggles, stresses in life or weaknesses. The SP GUY did not use VIsalus products & he wasn't always the healthiest guy in the room. The VISALUS guys are big time partiers........drugs,alcohol galore & promiscious parties at that. Real healthy!!!!!! So while you spend your money or maybe try to promote the products on this site because either you are selling them or are using them is not in the best interest of the many genuine folks here that are striving to gain control of their lives & weaknesses for certain foods & lack of exercise. We are all here to learn a healthy lifestyle emotionally, physically & spiritually.

Thank you DIETITIANBECKY!!!!! I am only speaking from experience with the founder of Visalus who I met on several occassions because they wanted me to sell their products for them. I am a very healthy woman & never had a weight problem. I run & eat right & take a multi vitamin for my health. Of course you are going to lose weight if you stop going through the drive thru at McDonalds not because you are using Visalus products. Yes, the guy is a multimillionaire, but like so many other people that fall for quick weight loss & get healthy schemes it isn't any different than what you get from eating right & exercise. Trainers are selling these products & the more they sell they get kick backs, i.e. BMW cars, comps of all sorts, free flights to LA for parties with the elite of the Hollywood scene. Not exactly healty in my eyes. My friends have gone & are now out of the business because if you don't make quota you lose your car. How is that for good businessmen trying to promote a health products.....? Just speaking from experience. It is called NETWORK MARKETING!!!!!!

There have been several posts about the product over the past couple weeks.

This is probably why the trainer is suggesting it:

"Anybody can get their personal Body by Vi™ product for FREE simply be getting 3 friends to join you on the challenge."

I echo what Kirsty said. I'm a mother of three, but I work two jobs. It's much easier and cheaper than fast food for me. I mix mine with a serving of ovaltine powder, 4 ice cubes, and a cup and a half of fat free milk. After my shakes during the day, I have a hard time meeting the calories I'm supposed to eat. I'm very happy with it.

My friend use to sell these products. I attended a few of their seminars & parties. They are just like all other supplements, just much more expensive & glamorized so to speak. The daily paks are just a bunch of normal over the counter supplelments & protein shakes as well. I took them only because they were given to me for free & they were trying to recruit me to sell for them. Use your discernment & give it a try if you feel inclined. I still get recruiting calls from the CEO out in LA. Are you in Michigan by chance......?

I am also using ViSalus for 2 meals a day. It was recommeded by a few of the personal trainers in my town. I personally like it because A) making a healthy meal before work in the morning didn't work for me, so I would 99% of the time skip breakfast or hit up McDonalds or some other fast food joint for breakfast. B) I was horrible at packing lunches for myself so I would run into the same problem as breakfast, I would either pick something up (which was almost always fast food) or if I did bring something it was almost always processed, frozen type meals. The shake concept works for me I throw some skim milk 2 scoops of powder and banana for exmple in the blender and its done! I realize that most of these shake programs are NOT long term, I do realize the 'diets' don't work but for me it was the best option. I did a lot of research on the product before hand and it had the highest level of nutrition/proteins without having tons of sugar .... I dont find it over priced AT ALL, for a 30 day supply (60 shakes) I pay $100, WAYYYY less than I paid for my take out breakfast/lunches, and I believe even less than buying the groceries to make a healthy meal. I have 2 snacks in the day, veggies, fruit, yogurt, occasionally treat myself with a piece of rye bread with peanut butter....and then dinner...so for me being single with no kids its cheaper....someone with a family maybe not, as you still need to buy groceries to feed kids etc.....for me it works, I still count calories and stay within my limits, i still need exercise (i dont do this as much as i should but thats why I am on here lol) its just easier and very convenient for a 'lazy cook' like me!

Just my 2 cents, I realize there will be varying opinions on this some negative some positive, but im positive about the product (this isnt a sales pitch lol) and if i can see ANY positive result, its better than the negative results I saw with the McDonalds diet I was previously living :)

It is unethical for health and fitness professionals to make recommendations and then turn around and say..."HEY, you can buy it from me."

It is easy for most healthy adults trying to lose weight to meet all their nutritional needs through diet alone. These overpriced products are NOT necessary.

I'd never buy anythng recommended by a trainer. She would do much better to eat real food.

As a nurse any research I have heard on meal replacement shakes, even medically supervised ones, has been that they don't work long term.
I would rather have some spinach and frozen berries and low fat yogurt as a smoothie, but different things work for different people too :)

So, my friend has been trying the ViSalus powder to make shakes for 2 meals replacements (with fruits, veggies and other stuff as midmorning and midafternoon snack in between), and her trainer actually turned her onto it. So, I was wondering, have any of you guys tried ViSalus. If so, what did you think?
