Every day is a new day. It takes a while to adapt to a new life style in eating right and excercising. I am doing very well on my program. Keep on trying and do not ever give up.

Efter 6 years, I am a firm believer in planning- Well crunch point was reached this year- my kids like licking spoons when I make food- I did a nasty on my oldest boy- the face he pulled when he cleaned the bowl I made my calorie light dessert could launch ships.. He walked up to me and moaned- you meany you have been holding out the good crap from us.. What is in that recipe- I had to sit on the floor of my kitchen and laugh..
My kids want my healthy food and only my healthy food next year.. I passed him my weightloss concepts christmas book, it is fun seeing a 16 year with a apron on lol.. I eat lightly around the main event and use most of my calories to dinner.. I make a variety induced plateau to hold my weight, so when I let rip at christmas I lost 1 kg over night eating my "weight concept" christmas dinner.. Cheers, eating christmas dinner that looks like everyone elses but is light and having the energy to work out efter wards rocks..

We all have bad days or fall off the wagon. YOu will be just fine. Drink plenty of water and start over again tomorrow. I beleive in YOU. Possibly try to get your work outs in the morning, this helps me through out the entire day. I find that if I skip my walk...I will eat more later....Just a suggestion...best wishes and keep up the good work..spark On!

Ugh...I'm practicing damage control today :) I totally lost my willpower and ate a huge double cheeseburger and an order of onion rings for lunch yesterday. Then I tracked it on this website and realized it was 1200 calories and like 50 fat grams, just in ONE meal. So...I just jumped back on the wagon. Went to the gym last night, woke up this morning and ate right. That's all you can do!

First--don't focus on them! You are in this for you and I'm sure you've had some successes to focus on. Can you think of a time when you made a healthier choice? Ate less than a full portion? Spent time playing with your daughter when you might have been sedentary instead? ALL of us, and I mean ALL of us, have good and bad days, but don't let that be your focus. When you said you felt like this was controlling your life, that was a red flag to me that you're trying to bite off more than you should chew. Take smaller steps! Think of maybe going back to square 1 and making one tiny change. I once read a story of a woman who was determined to get in shape. She KNEW she couldn't do it all at once, so she spent a few days driving past the gym, then a few more just going inside, then a few days changing but not exercising, then finally worked her way up to exercise. It was a very gradual work up that eventually got her there. This isn't a race, it's just a lot of little baby steps that eventually count the miles. Maybe you start by just journaling what you eat but don't make any changes. Just write it all down, no matter what. Make that your only goal for at least a week, and when that comes easily add one tiny thing--maybe breakfast or lunch is planned instead of spontaneous. You.can.do.this. Don't even let yourself believe you can't! If you can't juggle it all, just do a little less. But you CAN do it and all of us are happy to support you through it!!!!!
All things in moderation.
EVERYTHING tastes as good as thin feels!

I forgive myself, climb back on the health wagon and try not to fall off. I do notice that if I give myself a day that I can have something special that I would not normally allow... I do much better the rest of the time.

I just regard it like riding a horse--if I fall off I get right back on right away. I don't let several days elapse of doing more damage. It's bound to happen--none of us can be good all the time, that's for sure! P. S. I did this on Thanksgiving & probably will on Christmas!

I generally don't cut back on calories because I don't keep track of them strictly right now. However, I do focus in on fiber. I try to increase my fiber and water intake to help "detox" from a binge. In fact, the high fiber diet is the main goal of my diet right now, I just need to work on increasing my fiber.

In the 80s there was a diet plan called "Controlled Cheating" based on this principle of eating favorite foods one day/week. There's a book with that title out there although it's out of print. Keep going and you will reach your goals.

I allow myself one day a week to eat what I am really craving. One day is not going to ruin what you have been working for. We all need to be able to enjoy our favorite "bad" food and it also helps to keep me from completely falling off track. If i know that I am allowed that one day then I am less apt to cheat the rest of the week.

I'm the same way as the woman who wrote the last reply. I need to perform ALOT of physical activity if that's all I'm relying on to lose weight. It's important for me personally to control my food intake. If I go over my calories one day, I also make a mental note of NOT beating myself up for it. Just go to sleep, and wake up renewed and refocused on my goals. I usually do fine the next day!

For years, I would just give up on the whole thing & return to my old, self-sabotaging ways. Now, if I do overeat one day, I try not to let it get me down. I continue to track my food and stay within my range. I don't do a marathon of exercise, because "it's the food, it's the food, it's the food." I'd have to run 10 miles or more to run off 1 pound, so curbing my intake of food is the best thing I can do for myself.

Move on right then. Don't wait until the next day or beginning of the week. Just get back on track. Slipping up will happen, don't let it be habit.
Wow some interesting response. Let me first say that I have dropped over 100 lbs and used this approch to cheating.
1) Occasional cheating is good. It can help boost your metabolism.
2) Plan your cheating. Don't go crazy and don't have the idea that well I already blew it so it ok to have that second and third piece of cake.
3) If you know you are going to cheat, do a little extra workout before. I had a Christmas party to attend on Friday night so I did an extra 30 min of cardio.
4) Pre-eat healthy before. I like to have a salad with lemon juice as dressing before going out. Helps fill me up so that I will eat less.
5) You don't need to clean your plate. Restaurant portions are too big.
6)Get back on track and do some extra workouts the day after.

I rarely choose to overeat because I don't like dealing with the "bad me" feelings.
Yesterday we ate at our fav pasta place & had salad with shredded mozzarella cheese & 4 tiny strips of pizza. The pizza strips wouldn't have made one regular pizza slice.
Still...it was on the edge of my calorie range, tho not over. I journaled the cheese & pizza. Today is my normal brfast & lunch......& dinner will be a stirfry heavy on the veggies & light on the meat.Eating normally,so not to get hungry is my best bet against over eating.
I only weigh once a mo, so for me, it all evens out.We can only do as best we can....finding what works for us.We're all just human & there's no such thing as a perfect human being :-)

I get right back on the horse and tell myself that its ok to fall off, but there are consequences to decision I make and I'm just going to have to work harder to make up for it.
I am avoiding the 'extreme calorie counting' mentality and still want to enjoy life...so whilst I record everything, I give my body what it wants, just in moderation. On days where I do go off the rails, I take a moment to enjoy it and then tell or show myself what I need to do to make up for it - generally by how many extra minutes exercise I have to do...this is usually a motivator not to fall off again anytime soon :)

I forgive myself and I make sure that for every bad decision I made that day, I counteract it with a good one. I ate 15 oreos? I go for a 45 minute walk. I skipped a workout? I have an impeccable nutrition record for the rest of the day. Fumble/Interception. if I do nothing right for 3 days, then I make sure to have fantastic workouts and eating records for the next three.

You shouldn't be that worried, you just have to keep trying to stick to get within your calorie goals. It's a learning process but at least you know that you did something wrong and are trying to correct it for next time. When I overeat, I tend to eat only healthy foods the next few days. That means steamed veggies and so on. In addition, I like to substitute some meals with smoothies that are good for clearing out the body - since you probably didn't eat the right foods for your diet when you overate. I like to think that a nice detox smoothie will do cures for your body and your mind!
I start the day fresh each day and leave yesterday behind.

There is some really good advice in this thread. For me getting off track results from over work. First I become too tired to exercise regularly, then not at all. Then I lose the will power to stay away from calorie dense snacks, and finally portion control goes out the window. Getting back requires taking time off, resting, rebuilding the meal plan, buying the right foods, tracking, reading threads here, and doing 10 minutes of aerobic exercise. I'm glad to have work but sure wish it could be more consistent with hours required

It's a human thing to err occasionally, beating yourself up over it will just increase stress levels and cause a disaster day to occur again. We are working our way toward a life time of healthy habits, little stumbles are more like learning blocks =).

Eat better the next day. Add some aerobic exercise time. Don't beat myself up over it.

When I'm off track I accept its happened, try to figure out why i got off track and recognize the signs next time. i usually get off track when my life is more stressful. So I will acknowledge that I need some chips with my lunch to crunch my way through the stress. But I'll get sunchips instead of ruffles chips. Its a small change, not a big change, but every little calorie counts. Also, I'll recognize that maybe I need to get a good workout in instead of staring at my to do list and thinking "I'll never get it all done."

You know, the funny thing is, I will be reading articles on here for points, thinking I'm being kind of silly worrying about points, but then I realized by doing it daily, I AM starting to rewire my brain and get back on track.

"food ennui"
I always try to buy something new at the grocery store every trip. Trader Joes makes this easy as they are always adding new things.

"Food ennui" - great term!
And I'm guilty of sticking with the same ol' boring food instead of experimenting with new recipes. Shame on me - Spark's got loads of 'em.

When I get off track it's usually because I am feeling food ennui, that's when I know it's time to look for a new recipe or ingredient to obsess about! I love trying out new recipes, so I try to find a really good one and make a lot of it, then I can have special healthy food for a few days. And having really good, really healthy food always makes me feel more motivated to continue to eat healthy.

Often when I slip its because I'm feeling a little nauseous. Eating more food seems to help, and then more food and oops - - but I just realized that the reason I feel a little sick is that I am dehydrated. I'm past the point of feeling thirsty - if I just keep drinking water the sick feeling goes away. I just thought you might check it out for yourself.

YEAH I AM MORE LIKELY TO HAVE THE MINIMAL AMOUNT OF FOOD TO TIE ME OVER UNTIL I GO TO OUT TO DINNER. THEN I STILL LOOK AT THE MENU AND EAT WHAT IS THE MOST HEALTHY AND LESS CALORIES. I AM NOT SURE IF WE ARE DOING OUDR BODIES ANY FAVORS BY STARVING OURSELVES THEN STUFFING OURSELVES BUT IT DOES KEEP US IN LINE WITH OUR CALORIE GOALS.

Dig into the Spark boards, articles, etc.; huddle with myself about all the good things I've accomplished in this program (re-center myself); get outside (doing anything-just keep moving)--after a while, it all comes back to me and I'm back on my path. This is fresh to me because I had a bad day and a half that started with a party--superb food and wine. Compared to my program, I ran amok! I'm better today.

jump right back in , forgive yourself and move right on, like nothing happen.
Many dieters love 100-calorie snack packs, which allow them to easily control portions while enjoying their favorite foods. But just how healthy are these snacks?
