Try adding chia seeds to your shakes if you find they are not filling enough. I just bought 2 containers of chocolate. Ive had really good results with this product.

Well DragonChilde after I get to my goal weight. I will stop drinking 2 shakes a day and stick to only 1 as I will only need to maintain my weight loss. Its a lifestyle change for me because I am learning how to eat more healthier and about portion control in the process. At this time in my life I feel that this is something that will work for me and I am willing to put 100% into the whole entire program (which includes exercising and healthy eating) It may not be for everyone but to each its own.

GUNITPRINCESS88: What is your plan for when you have stopped the shakes?

The problem I have with shakes isn't that they don't work... they can. The problem is that they don't teach you how to address the cause of your weight gain in the first place. We don't get overweight because of not drinking enough protein shakes! We get overweight because of poor lifestyle habits.

Drinking shakes for weight loss won't address that, and it's a temporary solution. It's not a lifestyle change, it's a diet.

I just purchased the GNC lean shakes I got 12 containers because each container last a week. And in order for you to see real results studies show to try something for at least 90 days.I am using the Protein Powder and I have 1 4-pack ready to drink shakes just in case I am on the go and need a meal. The flavors i chose were banana, strawbrries/cream, vanilla bean, and french vanilla. I also bought the GNC total lean CLA soft gels and the GNC total lean chitosan with glucomannan capsules as well as a multi-vitamin. The plan is to replace 2 meals with 2 shakes a day, have 3 snacks, and 1 healthy meal. I expect to lose about 30-40 pounds because in addition i will also be walking for 1 hour every day increasing my pace as i progress. Today is day 1 and i will update as i do my weekly weigh ins. The cons of the program would be the price but then again you dont have to buy everything at once like i did. I paid $412 for the entire program then i went to the store and got a gallon of skim milk to make the shakes with. I have made the commitment, now i must do the work and then hopefuly the results will follow.

I didn't know GNC had protein shakes. Thanks for the heads up. I make my own protein shake every morning w/ 2% milk, 1 scoop of vanilla slimfast and a spoon of peanut butter. It tastes good and keeps me full till lunch.

I just started the GNC lean shakes today in vanilla bean flavour. You definitely need to mix it with really cold water. I add frozen fruit to mine and put it in the blender. It tastes pretty good and does keep me full.

LISAMANELL, I don't really understand your question, nor how it relates to the subject of this thread.

Are you asking how to get great abs? You can't spot-reduce the parts of your body you don't like. Fat loss is a total-body process, and it's not "fast" - trying to go into this "fast" is a recipe for failure. Slow weight loss is sustainable, easier on your body, and helps you avoid unpleasant side effects like loose skin in places you don't want it.

i've used lean shakes on and off for years and am about to start another 'on' period. i like the swiss chocolate and love the vanilla bean. i think they're a great way to get something healthy in your diet on a regular basis, and i find them very filling. i don't use them as meal replacements but as additions to my diet. instead of trying to fit in six 'meals' a day, i eat three meals, a shake or two, and a snack or two. it keeps me full, should hopefully have a positive effect on my metabolism, and helps me get all the vitamins and what not that i need to be healthy.

The best shake program out there ((HANDS DOWN!)) are the Vi-Shape Nutritional Shakes from Visalus!! I have lost 30 lbs on the program and love the newfound energy that I have!!! Better tasting, less expensive...and you can earn your product free!

The shakes are customizable, taste like cake, fill you up and on average run between 150-200 calories. Mix them with whole fruit, make a peanut butter cup or a blended coffee shake! What ever you like...the days of the "over the counter shakes that taste like metal" in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry are OVER!

Diabetic friendly, gluten and lactose free, they are low carb, low calorie and have earned the "Heart-Smart" stamp.

Message me or visit my website for info! You will NEVER find another program as easy or as tasty as this!

I am starting their 7 day fast lost plan on Monday. I used their shakes when I was on herbalife ( lost weight on it but i gained it back too fast, on herbalife). I think they were good. Gnc has a great 7 day meal plan, an easy one. Plus its not all set up as replacing two meals, either two meals or two snacks. It seems like a lot of food and I love food so hope it works.

Louie,

Why are you wanting to replace two meals with shakes? Have you spoken with a diebetes educator or dietician/nutritionist about this? Have you looked into the macronutrient breakdown of the shakes? I know it's important to have a certain carb to protein ratio to help control diabetes.

I've read through this whole thread and what I didn't see was anyone experiencing what I am experiencing--- I'm hungry all the time. I had the shake at 7 am with strawberries and was hungry by 9. Had some yogurt to tied me over until 12. Had a Total Lean snack bar at noon and am still hungry.
I am starting to think that maybe it's upsetting my stomach and I think it's hunger.
Well...off to have a salad. I'll stick with a few more days.

I use the shakes to supplement my protein intake, and love getting creative with them. I've added the powdered mixes to oatmeal, I have added them to juices like orange juice, apple juice and cranberry (light). (The vanilla flavoring is the most versatile for this.) Also you can add a teaspoon of sugar free jello pudding mix and either milk or water. Yum!

The lean shake will not have enough calories or nutrients that your body needs to replace a dinner. You should eat a well balanced meal. This would be ok to have as a breakfast and possible a snack during the day.

I bought the Vanilla Bean and Chocolate shake to day to drink before my workouts. I could never eat 6 times a day like the plan says but I can do two shakes per day. Once concern I have is the Carb count. I am supposed to be having 50g of carbs a day. Are any of you concerned with the carb count?

I've been drinking the lean shakes for a little over a week combined with lowered calorie intake and working out 6 days a week. So far I haven't lost any weight yet, but I have noticed that my clothes are fitting differently. I have had problems in the past losing weight even when I was exercising on a regular basis and eating healthy so I decided to give this a try. I'm also taking a thermogenic in the morning.

@ LYSS0990, to make them taste better you can add fruit, they suggested greek yogurt to me if you like greek yogurt, or milk. You do have to count the calories that those items add though. When I first started drinking them a week ago I used almond milk to mix them and it tasted pretty goood and only added 35 calories.

I went in GNC store and told them that i am underweight, I need something to gain weight also with low carbs and sugar since i am a diabetic. They gave me the protien lean shake and told me to eat 4 to 5 small meals per day along with one shake. I hope it will help me to gain weight. I already used 4 ready made lean shake bottle. Does anyone have any advise if the lean shake will help me gain weight?

I am drinking the ready made shakes and they are really good. I just had one this morning. I will check in tomorrow with how they worked for me. I plan to have one for lunch today as well. I got them for $14.99 for 2 - 4 packs. Not bad.

I buy GNC Lean Shakes. I don't do their plan and I don't drink them all the time but they taste good so sometimes I will have one with a banana and coffee. The one thing I love though is some mornings with work, school and a toddler I just don't have time for breakfast so its easy to put one in a shaker and drink it on the go. Then I am at least still getting some nutrients rather than eating some junk.

OMG! Sorry I'm so late. I was out of town and was inactive on SP.
I've actually stopped drinking the shakes because I wasn't comfortable with ingesting so many chemicals in one day.
However, I may restart only because I need to finish off all of this expensive powder... lol. I ate pretty terribly this past weekend, too, so I might do it for a few days before I make it to the grocery store next Monday. We can definitely share progress!

emoticon I have been trying to find a "shake" that doesn't have milk as the 1st or 2nd ingredient as i can't drink milk. I now use Atkins but i would need 2 to fill me up. I am going to add some ground flaxseed or sunflower seed to 1 and see if it fills me up (i think it will ) Does the GNC have milk ?

I love the GNC lean shakes! I keep a tub at work so I'm never in danger of completely skipping a meal and they get rid of any excuse not to have breakfast. They're also more filling than a luna bar. I do feel like the shakes are part of healthy lifestyle rather than a diet because they help me make good choices when my days get unpredictable.

I have both the Swiss Chocolate and Cookies n Cream that I purchased a little while ago but never really used.
I am going to add raw spinach to my shakes to get in some veggies.

Been there and done that! Like all the other quick fixes it worked for me for about a week, and then nothing! And is was way too expensive.

@MFARN61: I don't think it is about the percentage of protein, it is really about the total calories you take in a day. Remember -3500 calores = -1 lb of fat, when you are doing exercise (if you are not, then the equation might not be accurate enough because you would be losing muscle and fat, at a different rate).

I spent two months on a regime that was 75% protein, but with a caloric deficit and I lost weight at almost the same rate as with a balanced diet with about the same caloric deficit.

To lose weight, lean shakes are just as good as the calories they have versus the calories you burn in a day. For health purposes, they are just as good as any healthy food. They are not meant to do miracles (even though marketers tend to try to make the market believe they are).

Shakes are just convenient for some lifestyles.

Day one wasn't so bad, but it did help that I have been so busy I don't even think about food. I am starting with the two shakes a day and one sensible meal. Also, I am not following the diet or exercise regiment that comes with Total Lean. For exercise, until my Doctor clears me, I am walking 3 miles in an hour on a 2% incline. Sundays are my normal weigh in days, so I will check back in then with a report on how well i am sticking to it and any results. :-)

Hi! I have just joined this site and actually just started the Lean Shake today. I bought both the chocolate and vanilla and figured I'd try it for a month. How quick did it take for you to notice results? Also, did you follow the exercise and meal plans provided? I read somewhere that people taking such doses of protein are found to gain weight so I am kind of skeptical. Thanks your advice!

Monday to Friday I've replaced two meals per day with two milk shakes. I've done this week after week since last october and it has worked great. I also take a multivitamin and keep calories within a healthy range. On weekends I eat three ordinary meals per day, usually.

I can say that it would be very hard for me to find the micro and macro-nutrient balance that I find in the shakes in ordinary food. The shakes have everything you need and are perfectly balanced; to supplement your caloric deficit, there is the multivitamin.

So I differ from many posters; I find milk shakes really easy to consistently use. If you see your micro and macronutrient numbers, you'll find a very good balance in milk shakes. In fact, today if you ask me what do I prefer, a "normal" breakfast or a milk shake, I wouldn't think twice about it: milk shake!

I think our mind is socially conditioned to what we usually do, but when you think about it, for your organism it should be indifferent weather your food was solid or liquid before it reached your stomach, as long as all the nutrients are there.

But that's only my experience...

I apologize for not posting sooner. There is so much that has been going on lately! Ever notice when you resolve to start something for yourself that everything else explodes and you have to tend to it first? I am definitely going to start on Monday!

Laflaflaf, that would be great! I would love to have someone else going through the same things I am to talk to. I had surgery last month and I have 6 weeks before I can really hit the gym but I am hoping that adding extra walks and the shakes will at least give me a good start!

Hi, I noticed in your post, that we have a lot in common .. I netted about a 35 lb lost last year following a healthier eating program which included protein shakes (muscle milk mainly), veggies and lean meats and water aerobics 3 times a week but like you I've hit a wall, and actually backstepped from Thanksgiving to New Years ... gaining about 8 lbs. Being off for Christmas Break from school should have given me ample time to exercise, but all the fun holiday activities found me doing other things. I stopped by GNC last night, going in to get something else, and the salesperson told me about the Lean Shake plan, so I'm on it for a month at least ... along with the Women's Active Mega Ultra vitamins packs .. I love the convenience of them being in separate packets then you don't have so many bottles to deal with ... If you'd like an accountability partner on this weight loss journey, I'd love to hear from ya. Thanks!

I am not a fan of meal replacements, I have used lean shake to Jump start after losing track a few times or after holidays. Never used anymore than 2 weeks at a time. Its a good tool to get back on track but not a good subsitute for heallthy eating.

Hi everyone! I recently hit a wall with my weight loss and decided it was time to try something different. I chose the Total Lean from GNC and I noticed that the posting on this was lacking. So, I have decided to post my experiences with it and hopefully help someone else who is looking at their options. Currently, I weigh 188 pounds and my goal is to get down to around 150. I plan to start on the Total Lean (Vanilla flavored) Sunday, January 1, 2012. I look forward to hearing from some of you!

With the Chocolate Lean Shake 25, I only use one scoop and instead of just using water...I put ice, 1/2 water, 1/2 skim milk and 1/2 of a banana and mix it in a blender. It's REALLY good! :)

The shake plan may not be a long term thing. I did the slim fast thing and found that they didn't work and weren't all they were cracked up to be.

I couldn't do a powdered shake like this for more than a week, BUT I could easily do green smoothies. I have been doing a green smoothie (that I make myself with almond milk, water, or coconut milk), spinach, kale or broccoli and a serving of fruit. Not only satifying but really good for you. Been following that for 8 months now. So many different combinations to try.

rank replacement shakes like this with Jenny Craig or nutrisystems.

:)

thank you for the feedback.

the shake plan isn't supposed to be forever,,, i am doing the diet and excercise program that goes with it, and it is billed as a two week program. (i might do it longer though!)

my intention was to get on a new regimen as mine wasn't working. this is the current kickstart. with THEIR plan, as opposed to doing what i researched and what WebMD said would work for me, i am working harder in the gym than i have been, because i feel like i have a tangible goal.

i was on a 1200 cal diet with lots of fresh fruits and veggies and working out 3 times a week. over the span of two months, i lost ONE pound and ONE inch. so i'm trying something different just to jump the curb, and then go back to maintenance and see if my new found motivation to work out sticks.

if not, the 17-day diet is next! but it's way less tasty than lean shakes which are AWESOME!

Karismaklysm:

Couple questions for you:
1. Can you follow this meal plan for the rest of your life?
2. How long have you been at this?

I am willing to bet your answer to #1 is no. In which case you are likely to regain any weight lost at a later point in life. Why not take a closer look through the Spark People site and build an exercise and eating plan that is healthy and works for you. Something that you will be able to sustain forever and keep the weight off that you will lose.

I'm willing to also bet your answer to #2 is "a short time." There is no shortcut to losing weight, it takes time. Some people on here don't see the loss of a single pound for up to 6 weeks, regardless losing more than 2 lbs a week is unhealthy and not typical. So I caution you against having high expectations when you weigh yourself.

Pick any two, you can't have the third:
1. Eat what you want
2. Be lazy
3. Be thin.

Ok, so i'm the only one who likes the cookies and cream one, but hey, as long as i'm on track! the chocolate one is just too much of a good thing for me. i was really worried that i would be starving all the time, but i'm managing small fresh veggie snacks and like just soup for dinner! i can't wait to weigh myself, but i'm holding off because the suspense is keeping me more motivated to work out a little harder.

For a VERY picky eater, I am actually thrilled that I like the French Vanilla Lean Shake a lot. Totally shocked my trainer. I use 1 scoop before workout and 2 scoops after. I also use milk (6-8oz), couple of ice cubes and either a handful of frozen strawberries or raspberries (or mix them together). Wow am I really amazed I found something that tastes good. Here's hoping it works though. Very hard to have 2 of these a day as "meals" though. Especially when the rest of the house is eating fast food.

I have a sparkpeople account but am not on here very much, but I started the LEAN SHAKE thing from GNC yesterday but I did the whole box (it's got a diet plan for a week with multivitamins and a detoxifier). I am only doing it for a week- so this is not a long term thing. I had hit a wall and figured it was a good time to "jump start" what I already had going for me. I agree with you all that you need to have a good diet plan in place and should not rely solely on these shakes. In the weekly breakdown of the diet you are never just drinking a shake- there is always a snack with it (ie banana/ strawberries/ yogurt and so on). The breakdown of the meals for the week are good and based on a 1500 calorie a day diet. I refuse to do any "diet" where you don't eat or only drink a shake- not realistic for me. But the fact that on this plan I am eating six times a day and having good snacks is a good helper for me. And I also agree that if you think they taste like crap why are you drinking them? I don't like the chocolate one so I am only drinking the Vanilla bean which is DELICIOUS!!! :) Good luck to all trying to lose weight and if you hit a wall start climbing over it and burn some more calories while your at it.

So I'm on week 2 of using the GNC shakes, and I like it. I've lost 4lbs my first week. This is more about jump starting my overall losing. It really leaves me feeling full. I can barely drink the second shake during the day and had to space them out even further. This fullness also adds to me making better food choices since I'm not starving and wanting to snack through out the day. To me that's the hardest part of starting a lifestyle change. Fruits and salads are great but I prefer a big mac. =(
Once I finish this container I am done with this phase of my lifestyle adjustment. I will then incorporate oat bran to my morning routine to continue to have the satiated feeling.

i've tried them to sub as my afternoon snakc at work, can't stand the taste of the vanilla, the choco is okay and the cookies and cream needs some help but is bearable. not a huge fan but a good go to when there is nothing else but a vending machine.

I think it would be better to eat real food. Then to rely on a shake to give you nutrition. Personally I would rather eat real food.

Made it to my maintenance weight of 125 pounds.

Even though I have reached goal. I still don't know everything about weight loss.

I've been doing the cookies and cream total lean shake program for 2 days now and I love it. I make my shakes by putting ice and water into a container, shaking it up to get the mixture all together and then I pour it in the blender!! Tastes soooo good and fills me up for hours!! And I love to eat so I was surprised that I wasnt hungry!! But does anybody have examples of what they eat for dinner on this plan?? I had 3 small homemade tacos and 2 chicken wings. Bad or good choice??????

For those who don't like the GNC Lean Shake? If you get strawberry, it's not good. They let me trade in the Strawberry for another flavor. Try cookies and cream or vanilla bean for the best flavor. It tastes great even with just water.

When I don't have a lot of time to make food, I make my own smoothie from fruits, veggies and leafy greens - toss it in the blender.

I tihnk this kind of think can help people transition to healthy foods, but am disturbed by the idea of "jump starting" weight loss ... and when you stop taking it, what are you going to eat instead?

Is there any plan to learn how to make foods in a hurry, when you're in a rush, handle unexpected situations, learn how to get balanced nutrition from whole foods for all meals and snacks throughout the day, and get variety throughout your week?

I just started on the Lean shake as of Sunday (6/20/10) and as of today (6/23/10) I have lost 3.8lbs. I am following the plan religiously minus the exercise for right now. I am using the Lean shake to jump start my weight loss and I find it very convenient and easy to follow while at work. For those of us that don't have a lot of time to make food to take with us, this is a great alternative rather then eating out for lunch at an unhealthy restaraunt. I love the chocoloate flavor just with water. I don't plan to take the shake for the rest of my life, but if it helps me reach the common goal then I will follow it. Thats great that you're excited to try it! Just stick to their plan, 1 for breakfast, 1 for lunch and I usually eat a balanced meal for dinner. I also throw in a couple of snacks throughout the day to curb any hunger pangs I might have. Good luck!

This is my first day trying the Total Lean shake and wanted to know if anyone can tell me how it has worked for them. How many lbs lost on average when following the plan? I want to get jump started and the shake was recommended by a friend. Any insight would be appreciated.

I prefer the cookies and cream and I can't do it with water. If you add skim, it does add 80 calories, but I am a tiny bit lactose sensitive, so I use it with a lower sugar fat free lactose free milk by Valio. Adds 80 cals but not as much sugar, etc. as skim milk and it is delicious like a real milk shake. I also crush ice in it. So if you stick with water, try crushing up ice in a blender with it. I NEVER use a shaker cut with this shake. Another to try is Spiru-tein. Lower in cals, worlds of flavors, and nice and thick.

I just tried the Vanilla Bean shake. I think it tastes great. I also purchased the shaker with the little whisk in it so maybe that helps get everything mixed up well. It does thicken up in the fridge. The vanilla bean flavor smells similar to cake batter ice cream....

I have been drinking the GNC Lean Shakes for awhile now. The key that I found is to make it with bottle water and I leave it in the fridge; by leaving it in the fridge it thickens up, making it taste way better. Try that and see if it makes a difference for you.

Well to be honest , you dont have to drink the shake for the rest of your life,but it is ok if you are tryingto lose weight now, because it helps you to build lean muscle ,it is good for your body. and when you stop .. all you have to do is still keep up with your healthy meals.. either way it goes if your workout and keep a healthy lifestyle you will be fine. so it is perfect, even trainers will tell you it is not a problem with shakes.. now as far as taste you dont have to get nasty products, SOoo many shakes out there would fit your taste so you just have to choose the one you like

Tips: for Lean Shake
if you cant stand it with water, you and use slim milk it works just fine for the taste =)

good for you! if this gets you excited and motivated to lose weight, then why not try it?!

with that being said, you might also want to try finding some new, healthy recipes that you could try for the same amount of calories. i can't help but think that over time you'll get sick of the shakes and want some yummy and healthy food to replace them. i personally feel much more satisfied on say, 200 calories worth of yogurt + cereal + fruit (my favorite!) than a shake.

search these boards a bit, and you'll be surprised what amazing and easy recipes are floating around. you should also check out http://www.sparkrecipes.com. Best of luck!

The problem I have with these shakes from the last few posts are 1.) Why are you eating stuff that is tastes bad? And 2.) Relating to #1, can you see drinking these for the rest of your life?

Don't make changes that you can't sustain.

I just started the Lean Shake yesterday. I definitely couldn't imagine just drinking it with water every day. I tried it this morning with water but I blended with ice to make a smoothie and it tasted a lot better (without adding calories). Tonight I also blended it with ice but added a 1/2 banana and it was SOOOO much better!! (only adds about 50 calories)

I just got this and today is the first day that I am trying it. I am drinking it as directed with water and it's disgusting to me. I forced myself to drink 1 cup for breakfast and 1 for lunch. I use water because I know if you use milk or anything else you are just adding the calories and fat and that defeats the purpose. It's definitely more gross with water, but it's still filling. I guess I'll find out if it did me any good. It's the first time ever that I'm taking any kind of meal replacement. My fiance's cousin works at GNC and recommended it for me.

I get them and I love the taste. I use milk instead of water. I either add a scoop of ice cream or a banana. It's very filling!
I don't drink 2 a day, everyday though. I'd get sick of them.
For me, they calm my cravings for chocolate, while giving me protein that I'm always a little short on.
My dad likes them as well.

I think if you're excited about it and it works for you, that's great!

I would rather have real food than a shake. It sounds so sad. 2 meals a day are processed liquid? Bleh, no fun. Plus, its not really good for you.

My usual cynacism made me google

Proven effective for weight loss, Lean Shake can also help reduce cholesterol and support lean muscle mass and a healthy metabolism.
** When used in conjunction with the provided meal and exercise plan, this delicious oat-based shake can help you achieve and maintain your weight loss goals.

**A randomized clinical study consisting of 98 healthy participants compared the use of Lean Shake in conjunction with the Meal and Exercise Plan (total daily caloric intake of 1500 calories) to a 1500 calorie diet alone. This study resulted in nearly twice as much total weight loss and four times greater reduction in total cholesterol among the Lean Shake users upon completion of 12-weeks.

Lean Shake offers a good method of weight loss over time. Combine the use of convenient Lean Shake with the enclosed meal and exercise plan. Just two delicious shakes per day as a substitute to replace a snack or some of your meals, as well as a few modest changes in your overall lifestyle, and you too can see a totally new you.

As a meal replacement, mix two scoops (48 grams) with 8 oz of cold water. Mix well. Drink two shakes daily while following the enclosed Meal and Exercise Plan.

~~~~~~~~~~~
so basically if you take these 2 shakes a day as part of a healthy diet and exercise plan -where your calories don't exceed 1500 a day 0you'll lose weight
No magic in this product at all -you can easily get 8 grams of fiber per shake - with something that will probably be more satisfying.
I'm not a fan of meal replacement shakes for weight loss because they don't teach you how to eat properly for the rest of our life..
Will this plan work? yeah -of course -it's reduced calories.. but there's nothing special about it..
