I have been using it as part of the 10 day detox by mark hyman. The first few days it was fine but now it is giving me very loose stools. So i am going to stop taking it. I was not even taking it the requested 3 times a day. just once or twice. I have some IBS challenges to start with and this is making it worse. I didn't really feel a difference hunger wise.

I wouldn't recommend this as a diet pill. I take fiber regularly as a way to encourage elimination, but I'm only taking fiber supplements as I transition my diet from basically crap food to whole foods. Once I transition, my diet will supply all the fiber I need.

I'm always the last to know. Seriously! After reading some of the posts, it seems like people have been up on PXG for a while! I just read about it's benefits in First magazine. What interested me about it is it's claim to not only cut hunger, but it supposedly blunts sugar spikes which is a big issue I have. I have Type II diabetes and I'm always hungry; Craving carbs and sweets. Sometimes the urges are uncontrollable and I wipe out an entire row of cookies!
I know that the best diet consists of portion control and exercise, but everyone needs help every now and then!
Anyway, I'm going to make the investment and give PXG a try. Hopefully, I'll see immediate results that'll help me get motivated and begin the journey (again) to losing weight and keeping my diabetes under control!

Don't worry about how green someone else's grass is. Water your own!

I had read a review about it on a site where it is mentioned that if you use it with light exercise then you will get the most out of it, but sadly, this also not giving me the result, so please tell me what i gonna do for this now ???

I'm going to throw my hat in the ring on the PBX discussion. This is my first post as I've only been a member for a couple of weeks, and sadly lapsed because of a big b/day party, but I'm back on track today. I haven't taken PBX indepth...in fact, found this thread because I found a handful of PBX someone gave me. I'm fine throughout the day, but wanting to snack toward evening is my downfall (that and the Christmas holidays). I figure I might as well try these again and actually a couple in the evening. When I spoke to a pharmacist (my 89 year old mother wanted to try them) I was told one would be lots for her. I can't see myself taking as many pills as is recommended, but fiber is fiber and we definitely don't get enough. And I eat a ton of veggies, juice, blend, etc. but more fiber is better.

Anyway, my daughter went through a very abusive marriage, divorce, long custody battle and had some self-image problems by the time everything was said and done. She gained a fair bit of weight and is only 5'3" (barely). She started taking PBX the way it was recommended. She took it for quite some time but the cost was too much as a single parent supporting two boys (she won custody). She said if nothing else, the PBX kept her regular. However, slowly but surely the weight started coming off. She began running, lifting weights, etc. She said the PBX gave her a start, and hard work and determination took her the rest of the way. She is back to looking amazing and is very happy with herself once again.

Like others have said, taking a pill (even just fibre) isn't going to be enough. Changing your eating habits slowly, moving lots, and putting the time and effort into it is what made the difference. My daughter lost her weight over a period of a year or so. Losing weight was the impetus to her wanting to do more with herself. Coming through all that she did, but not being beaten has certainly made her my hero.

Forgive the long post, but I wanted to say try PBX but also put the extra effort into it. I gave myself a goal of 15 lbs. I'd like to lose. Not a lot, but it is very stubborn. Of course, so am I! I figured I could just take bits and pieces out of Sparkpeople, but I can see actually getting involved will take me a lot further. I was good the first week, slipped my second, and back on track again. Good luck to all of us!

Just a head up if your interesting in PGX. I previously thought it as fad diet quackery, but after researching it for some considerable time, I no longer think of it ats quackery. I finally broke down recently and picked up a bottle at Costco. It's not cheap! Then you read that you should end up taking upwards of 4-6 capsules with each meal. That's getting to be pretty big coin for a fiber supplement. So, being that I love researching stuff via the internet (GEEZ I wish I had access to this when I was a kid)... I wanted to see if I could locate the same stuff without paying the high price tag on the Webber Naturals brand name (that everyone pushes).

I found that there are several options out there... The best so far: I managed to get 2000mg capsules (Dr.Vita), instead of the 750mg (Webber) for 1/4 the price. (just google Dr.Vita Glucomannan) 2000mg / 360 capsules for $18.80 (free postage). You can get it in 180 capsule bottles too..for around $10 a bottle. Still way way cheaper than the highly advertised kind. (SAME STUFF)

Hopefully Webber isn't a sponsor here. emoticon

I have started taking PGX as well. I had taken Glucomanan in the 70's and it worked pretty well. But then I weighed 115 and thought I was severely obese so I may not have been a good judge at that time. Now I have 75-100 to lose. I have found that I don't eat between meals when I take the PGX. I also seem to have more energy. I started taking it 16 days ago. I have only lost 3 lbs, but I guess it is better than gaining 3 lbs. I will stay with it for a few months and see what happens. I started with 1 of the packets of granules and have worked up to taking 2 per day. one 30 min before lunch and one at 5:30 PM. I usually eat around 6 to 6:30, depending on how long it takes to cook supper. I have to take at least 4 hours before I go to bed since I take medications at bedtime. That is something people need to be aware of. It does affect medications if taken to close to the time you take it.

I found that when I was using this previously it helped to take a high count probiotic with gas and bloating issues. I'm at work an cannot recall the exact brand but I believe any brand would do just the same as any other.

I just started using PGX again today, I started Weight Watchers again a week ago and remembered I had some PGX left and wanted to use it up, as I find it actually fills me up so I don't really know why it was I stopped, probobly frustration and laziness.

Anyways, personally the pill form makes me gag, too big and too many needed to be taken each day. I make a shake with PGX chocolate protein powder - 1 scoop = 1 points plus I also ad in 1 packet of the granules which expand with liquid and I find actually do work in filling me up and I mix it with a handful of ice cubes and 2 cups of almond milk, pretty yummy :) but if anyone is trying these, try a probiotic alongside and it may help.

There is no magic pill.... However, if used as directed many supplements and such can be quite effective. I currently use no supplements except a multivitamin, but I have friends and acquaintances who have had excellent results with certain supplements, such as probiotics, digestive enzymes, magnesium-oxygen, and fiber tablets and powders.

I do have an issue about something I came across in this thread: One person mentioned adverse side effects when using Alli. Alli is often vilified because people think they can just eat whatever they want and Alli will remove most of the fat -- so they don't have to take any personal responsibility for what they eat. Sure, Alli takes care of ridding the body of excess fat consumed, but that doesn't mean one can eat chips, pizza, french fries, bread with olive oil dipping sauce, etc., and all will be well. Seriously, how do people think Alli and things like it work? The fat has to go somewhere, and that is usually through the colon - very rapidly!

All I'm saying is that people need to stop and think before ingesting anything that they think is or that claims to be a quick fix or miracle of some sort, and always read all the information and guidelines for use that accompany the product. And if a product doesn't work for you, or the side effects are unbearable to you, don't use it!

I used the capsules for a few days two years ago. I actually gained weight - 2 pounds in 3 days. I panicked and took them back to the store - luckily they refunded my money. Then a few of months ago, I got sucked in again and bought the singles in powder form. I put in on my yogurt, and after breakfast I went to brush my teeth and noticed this stuff was like concrete stuck between my teeth. It came out, but I don't like the idea of that stuff in my insides - like, what is it gonna do in there? Now I'm stuck with this whole box of 30, so I guess I'll give it a go again. But if I gain weight again, I'll stop using it and never, ever buy it again!
I did drink the water as instructed. It probably was water weight that I gained, but it freaked me out.

I have mixed thoughts about PGX. I DO suggest a very large increase in water intake if you do use this supplement. Bloating and gas should dissipate with more water intake. Good luck - I may have given up on this supplement too quickly as I still have a bottle in my cupboard! emoticon

Please notice the HUGE number of posts on this thread from members who have fewer than 10 posts, ALL about this topic. That's called spam, folks. Someone is paying people to ask questions on forums like this, and also to answer them. In some cases, the "question" and the "reply" come from the same person, using different profiles. I really, really wouldn't trust a product that does this kind of underhanded promotion.

We're about to get a dozen replies that say "No one paid ME to do this! I love this product!" Just check out those people's Sparkpages, see their "recent posts," and see if they really are members who do other things here, or if they're shills.

Started taking PGX daily again and this time started 1 capsule before each meal 3xdaily and feel great, lost 4 lbs in a week. Must drink lots of water for It to work, love it. I am gradually increasing to 2 capsules per meal, so it takes some time for your body to adjust to the fibre in the pills. I'm also eating better and exercising as I work towards my total weight loss goal

I expected more feedback on PGX. I appreciated the notes that are posted but was surprised to see that there are no recent ones. After seeing it on Dr. OZ, this is the morning of my second day. I'm so hopeful that this will help in several areas of my life. I certainly hope that we can create a good support group for users.

I just started using PGX and I must say it does make me feel fuller! Today at lunch I ate half of what I usually eat, which was great. I really hope that this helps me lose the weight I wish to lose, crossing fingers (X), and I maintain a healthy living. I love how it has helped so many people already. I would love to hear more feedback on PGX??? =)

Also, has anyone experienced any sort of side effects besides the gas and bloating? And for those who have taken it a while, did you get any severe side effects from it? That is one of my concerns but I haven't seen any posted so I was wondering.

I have been taking PGX granules. They can be added to food or mixed with water and taken before, during or after meals. I got a lot of help from reading Hunger Free Forever, it explains more about PGX.

I seen PGx on the Dr Oz show today... so have decided to give it a try. I had surgery a year ago and the Dr messed up so bad that I have only been able to begin to walk the past 3 mo and I cant walk without a knee brace. I went from being 100% active, riding and training horses, riding bikes, hicking and climbing rocks, going out dancing to the simple thing we all take for granted WALKING ... to 0% active and doing the simplest things like WALKING from my bed to the door or to the bathroom let alone out an about to the store..... Im NOT really that much of a junk food eater, I eat lots of veggies, fruits and chicken.... but bcuz Im NOT active I find it very hard to keep the weight from creeping on and staying! I hope this PGx will help me. I went from 142lbs to 192lbs... I wuz staying at 184lbs for like 7 mo straight and then booom! 10lbs! (FiNgErz CrOsSeD)emoticonemoticon

I started taking PGX about 3 weeks ago and so far have lost 11.5 pounds. I'm not so sure if it is the capsules I am taking, that is having the possitive effect or if it is the amount of water I am drinking. However I'm not complaining. One major difference I have noticed is just a general feeling of wellness. Before I started taking the capsules I was fighting exhaustion all the time and also suffering from bouts of dizziness. Also I would eat and feel hungry soon after wards. All that has stopped now, which makes me wonder if my blood sugars weren't a bit wonky. (after all that is what PGX was originally intended for.) Energy level is high once again and no more after meal cravings. Again whether it was the tablets or just adjusting my eating habits I don't know but if it works, either way, I am for it.

I started using the daily packets, have one in the morning with my protein smoothie....lost 1.5# this week, love it! It fills me up, haven't had any side effects, just a gentle feeling of fullness. I like the loose powder instead of the capsules, easy to adjust the amount slowly over a period of time.

So I did start taking PGX capsules shortly after I posted. I increased from 3 to 6 per meal gradually - started with 3, next week went to 4,etc and ingesting them about 20-30 minutes before my meal (or when I was planning on eating). In the beginning I found it to be useful, and then by the time I was taking 6/meal consistently for a week or so, I found the effectiveness to have worn off. I don't know if it's in part because they trained me to eating naturally smaller meals as well as recognizing that I needed a mid-morning & mid-afternoon snack (I work a 9 - 5 job) or if it was all in my head, but I've stopped taking them and don't feel a need to go back. Even when I was taking 6 caps before a meal I didn't feel "full" like others claim, I think I psychologically told myself that this was supposed to be the result of taking them and therefore I need to eat smaller portions. But hey, everybody is different, right?

i just started PGX 2 days ago and am still taking it slowly 1 capsule before meals breakfast, lunch, and supper. Lots of water and green or herbal tea. Definately feel fuller. I am just curious, but I believe that polyglycolplex(copyright) is either the same or very similar to the stool softener the doctors recommended for my son (who was 4 at the time) polyethylene glycol or PEG for short.. And for that it was the best daily product out there that did not create bowel dependency and safe for kids.. So, happy trials for everyone and remember, the most important part of any bulking agent is water, water, water. Satisfied? I seem to be.

I'm taking it. I don't think it is really doing much for my weight. It is making me more regular & I like that. I've done Benefibre for the same reason, didn't find it did "enough".

I've been taking it since Jan 3rd and I'm down 8 pounds, but haven't lost in 2 weeks. Overall, I just like how my tummy feels better inside.

I justed wanted to say that I tried it for a month. I did not notice any change in my appetite or fullness while eating. I felt it was a waste of money. Intermittent Fasting is easier and has really curbed my appetite on up days. Just thought I would share my experience.

Great feedback, everyone! I'm looking into starting PGX and was wondering just how well it curbed cravings.

I just read about PGX in Dr. Colbert's book, I Can Do This Diet. My problem is that I can't swallow pills. Is the powder form effective?

Just an update on my earlier post. This is my second day taking the PGx. I must say I already feel this working. For lunch I shared a footlong Subway sub with my daughter. I had to force myself to finish a 6 in. Really normally I would eat the whole footlong and want more.

I did notice that my side effect is that it makes me burp a little bit but besides that no other side effects yet.

Today (Jan 3) is the first year anniversary of quitting smoking. I have gained only 5 lbs. I have kept up the exercise program but I started using PGX, 1 cap before each meal, for the entire time. I think that it has helped me not gain that 20 lbs I was scared that I would. Now, I have joined SPARK to lose those 5 lbs and another 5 that I need to lose. I will continue with the PGX as well. Hope this helps. Marion

I just purchased this at my local store came with 90 750mc gelcaps and a book and a 15 pack of the singles which it says are equivalent of 3 pills that can just be added to food or drinks.

I plan on using this in combination of healthy eating and exercise. I need help with the sweet cravings so I hope tis will help with this issue.
As of yesterday I weighted 310 so I will be sure to keep people updated as to the weight lose.

I'd rather choose to get fibre in the foods I eat, instead of a pill.

One natural way I know of getting a boost in fibre is wheat germ, which I add to oatmeal. It also contains protein and other nutrients. I can buy a 500gram bag of toasted wheat germ from my local supermarket for only $2.05 (Australian). I'm quite generous when I add it to my morning oatmeal, but it lasts me approx 2 weeks :)

PGX isn't a brand name though, it's the name of a specific proprietary blend of fiber, PolyGlycopleX (PGX). It's made from plant fibers - sea weed I believe - and other polysaccarides. It's particularly viscuous so it slows the absorbtion of foods and this is how it lowers the glycemic index of foods as well. There are many brands - this is not your basic fiber supplement.

I'm curious to know how you all have done on this fiber - still using it? Liking the results?

I started using PGX along with reading/following Vice Busting Diet (it is the best book) on Monday, August 8. I first started with one pill right before every meal. During the weekend, I went up to 2 pills before every meal and today I went to 3 pills. I'm trying to drink 5 bottles of 591ml of water per day. The book really helps though. I think people should do both together. It will help you in the long run. The book explains about busting vices (Ex. Drinking more water, stop eating fast food etc.) I bought the bottle of PGX (150 caps) and the book together for around $45. I'm not weighing in. I'll be keeping track with my pant sizes. Good luck to everyone :D

I have been having trouble losing weight and both my Family Physician (MD). and my Naturopath recomended PGX. I just started it today but I am looking forward to reporting some good results. My Dr. lost weight on it. My naturopath suggested starting with low doses (1-2) pills at mealtime - otherwise teh fiber can cause side effects that we don;t want to deal with.

I have started using PGX for little under 2 months now and so far I have lost 5 pounds without much effort or exercise. I have seen a remarkable blood sugar control after meals, which is good for me. Right now I am on 3 pills before each meal and may increase my intake and add exercise (walking/treadmill) to see results. I am keeping my finger crossed.

Tannerz: I am also not an advocate of the "quick fix" of pills...but I do think if used only as needed, like I was wanting to try, well, then it is no different than taking a Tylenol for an occasional headache. I think it becomes misused when people think they can't do without it, when really, you can. I think people must retrain their mind first, give that a good shot before resorting to any type of long term pill. Remember the craze over Phen Phen? It was touted as a miracle weight loss pill, then look at all the terrible side effects most users suffered.

I used to be a "quick fix" junkie too; I was convinced I needed the Lap Band to lose weight, my reasoning at the time being that it would "force" me to "eat right". Well, I can tell you, I would have failed miserably going into it with that mindset. I'm not saying that weight loss surgery is an awful thing, I know people who are morbidly obese who are physically unable to exercise who could benefit, but ultimately, I think people have to change their mindset. My SIL had gastric bypass and then thought she could eat anything, cake, ice cream, pop, etc...she dropped 150 lbs at first (she started at 500), then gained every bit of it back and then some.

I just wanted to take this as needed, but wanted to know if I could take other fiber capsules, not PGX brand specifically, but something like Metamucil, if it would do the same thing.

Blessings, Michelle

Lol @ all the 1 post posters. Very suspicious.

Seems like the prolong use of this product will burn a hole in your pocket for nothing. Just buy a frigging loaf of 12 grain bread. I don't see why everything has to be resolved by taking a pill? You really want to do that all your life? Please. By the time you're 50 you'll have 10 different types of pills to take as is. $50 a bottle that will last you a month seems like a lot of wasted money $600 dollars can buy me pretty nice stuff.

How is the PGX brand different from other brands like Metamucil and Benefiber? Someone mentioned it is more concentrated maybe, than the other brands? Also, if you get gassy or bloated initially, does it go away as your body gets used to it?

I have incoporated a lot of fiber in my diet through my food choices, but still have an awful, awful problem with late night snacking...although I think some of it is boredom, but if I could take a capsule or 2 before my evening snack, and make a healthy choice, I don't see the harm in that until I can retrain my mind and body to not just reach for stuff late at night.

I have seen and/or heard other people talk about this product a lot, but are there any undesirable long term side effects from prolonged use?

Blessings, Michelle

Dr. Oz just recommended PGx daily a couple of days ago, and I have rarely seen him recommend a product by name, it's usually just "take this kind of fiber". But in this case he showed the bottle and everything

So, I just bought PGX yesterday. I went in my local health food store and said I need something to help control my hunger and cravings. I am a diabetic with high blood pressure. I took one pill immediately right before my dinner and I had no problem the rest of the evening with snacking. I already drink about 100 oz of water daily, so the water intake will not be an issue. I am hoping to see some good results. The bottle says to take 3-6 capsules per meal. But the lady at the health store said take only one!! So, I will see how this works for me. My doctor is not happy when I add supplements to my daily regimen but hopefully when I see him in April my numbers will be impressive enough for him to approve. emoticon
