My best tip would be to watch the alcohol intake. Alcohol is empty calories in itself, but then it also leads to less inhibitions - including your food choices. You can ask for half a glass of wine, and add carbonated water to make it sparkling. I also drink water at parties, with ice - nobody knows what it is I'm drinking.

A couple other favorite tips of mine:
1) Don't arrive starving. Have a small snack with protein before you go, so you aren't always thinking about the food.
2) Don't stand near the table with the snacks. That is disaster all over the place!
3) Have fun, and enjoy the people you are with.
