Avoiding overeating in the evening is one of my biggest struggles, but I haven't done it in a week!
Some things that help me: Planning my meals ahead to ensure I have enough calories left over for an evening snack, making sure I have healthy but tasty snacks in the house so I'm not searching the cupboards for something to snack on, staying busy instead of sitting around watching tv, reading motivational articles or videos on this site, going to bed earlier than I use to.

I do my workout at night, after that I put the kids to bed, shower and usually go to bed shortly after. It seems to help with the evening snacking. It's something I'm working on as I was an evening snacker and don't want to be!

This is something I struggle with too! The best thing I've found that works is that I only keep healthy snacks in the house. If I really want ice cream or some other treat like that, I have to drive to go get it. If I want it bad enough to drive for it, then I indulge in that treat. Most of the time, it isn't worth it and I find something else.

I also try to keep busy so that I don't mindlessly eat while reading or watching TV. Lots of water or tea or hot chocolate (in the winter).

Last, I try to plan my meals around my schedule so that I'm not eating dinner super early and end up hungry later without a snack built in.

Similar to many posts I have to stay busy, just watching tv or "relaxing" around the house kicks my junk food craving in BIG TIME. I've started eating my evening meal a little later ( we use to eat between 530 and 6pm) so I now eat closer to 630/7pm. Have to watch eating too late in the day though, cause then I want carbs something terrible around 1130/midnight. Journaling seems to help a bit, for me personally my snacking is usually due to three things....bordom, stress, or lack of water. :)

Computer games help me - or anything else that keeps my hands busy. Just watching TV doesn't work. Sometimes I'll make something really low calorie like veg sticks as they take a while to prepare (busy hands again) and don't ruin my calorie count. Not exactly avoiding eating, but it does help.

This is an issue for me. I am on day 10 of avoiding evening snacking. I will eat if I am truly hungry. But most of the time I am just bored. What I am doing is: if I know I am not hungry, I brush my teeth, walk my dog, crochet, read, do light exercises, or do puzzles. I have a list of things I can do instead of eat.

Eating ice seems to work the best for me since my brain sees that as I'm still eating. I know gum works for some people but it just makes me want food more. I think just doing anything super engaging with your brain will get you distracted enough, like crossword puzzles etc. Whatever makes you really focus etc. emoticon

USE 2 go to store late a night in get a candy bar, soda and popcorn and went straight to sleep..
