Look for even the smallest signs of progress - finding yourself getting full with less food, not getting as winded after a workout, clothes feeling a bit less loose, focusing on where you feel strong (I swear every day I feel stronger in a different area - stomach, legs, even the mind). Finding even the smallest positive point each day can give great motivation to keep with it.

I have a big bowl of fresh fruit on my dining room table for healthy and accessible snacks. This is new to me, as I used to put most fruits in the fridge where they would be forgotten until they were rotten. Having then visible reminds me to eat healthier.

Plan to avoid failure - last night I wanted a snack - the easiest thing to reach for was crackers and cheese. I had "room" left on my daily nutrition but what if I had already gone over? I want to have something else available as a quick, low-cal grab-n-go snack so I don't overdo it next time.

Get out once in a while for some mental R & R. I am a stay at home foster mom of 3 and without my short times away from the kids I would lose my mind! Lol. It helps me to stay on track and refocus on my goals.

Have a good support system. Whether its family or friends, or even both. Knowing that someone is there to help you, encourage you, challenge you, or even be there to catch you if you fall is the greatest feeling aside from reaching your goals.

I keep a jug of water in the bedroom - first thing in the morning i don't have far to go to get my first glass of water - it's more refreshing than I thought it would be

Drink 8 cups of water. I never used to before. Honestly I thought it was a joke to drink that much water. However, I really can say now that it works. It makes me feel full, so I don't binge like I used to. Granted, when I started I felt like I was swooshing around all the time but that was because it was foreign to me cause I never drank water before. When I felt thirsty, I always misread it and ate whatever was in site.

Get a good night's rest. I say that with experience, if I get enough rest, I am on track and ready to go. I feel better and happier. But when I don't get enough sleep, I feel like I'm in a fog and can't get motivated, I make poor food choices and I'm irritable and short tempered.

Start the day with a good breakfast. It really affects both the way that I feel and also the choices I make in the hours that follow!

I started this to see what others are doing to get healthy, stay motivated and enjoy life! Each day I plan on adding one thing that I do in hopes that others will join in by adding their own tips and hints. Here's mine for today: When I wake up, I drink a glass of water and do at least 15-20 minutes of exercise (either the treadmill or a workout video, or resistance training). There are tons of videos on Sparkspeople to try as well for more options. This gets my metabolism going, increases my energy and I don't feel as hungry throughout the day
