Hello Newbie! Thanks for the information, unfortunately, I am not yet into the "new" phone technology and my ipod is as old as Moses. lol. I will definitely keep your email and advice in case I bring myself to the 21st Century. (Not by choice and I not there)

Thank you so much for your information. I was wearing mine on the hip. And thank you for looking for information on the gate and giving me the article. Will look at it now.

Hello all, newbie here. I have an app on my iphone called Walk Star. I had my daughter measure my stride and put that in the settings. I then counted my self how many steps it took me to walk around the track. I set the sensitivity on the app to try and match my steps for the same distance around the track. It took about three times to get the sensitivity right, but it has done well for me. Putting your ipod/iphone in your jacket pocket or hoodie pocket works well.

I have never had good success with a pedometer. They seem to all have issues. Sorry to be negative but that's my take.

The only way to finish your workout is to start!

First of all, we try to tackle all questions, so please don't feel silly.

The best place to wear your pedometer, is at waist level, in alignment with your knee - it usually doesn't matter which side, but with the limp you mentioned, you may want to try it on both sides to see if there is a difference.

Some pedometers come with a strap, so they won't fall off or get lost. If your new one doesn't have this you can use a safety pin and a shoe lace!

Here is a great SparkPeople article on how to choose and use a pedometer:

I will check on how to measure your gait, and get back to you. Good question!

HELP! Need advise on the usage of the pedometer. I feel silly for asking this, but does anyone else have difficulty with your pedometer not tracking your steps? I have been told that it is because I am a women and have a difficult gate. I walk with a limp due to hip problems. I am told to change my position of the meter to a different location on my hip or change hips. I started to wear the meter on my underpants, however, it sometimes fall off into an unmentional place (lol). My father has ordered a new meter for me that keeps track of everything and I would love to use it and not lose it. Any advice?

Oh, also, how do I measure my gate? I would like accurate readings as I am planning on trying to have over 10,000 steps a day.

Thanks emoticon
