I'm a lot like you; I don't really get up early enough to eat, and I'm not crazy about trying. So what I do is have a chocolate protein shake. I mix it with 2% milk. It's not a breakfast replacement; I just know that I'm not going to eat, and frankly, I need the energy. I work out very intensely, from 1-2 hours, and if I go longer than an hour, I NEED it! So it's either get up an hour earlier (not gonna happen. I've tried for years), skip breakfast, or grab a shake. So shake it is. :) I've gotten to where I drink them every morning... I prefer them to coffee to get started in the morning. And so far, it's really helped. Maybe that's an option for you; I usually eat breakfast afterwards, even if it's something like an egg or a banana, so it's not a meal replacement or anything for me. Just an early start.

If you are feeling fine while working out, and not light-headed or weak, you are very likely fine to go and workout for 30 minutes without fueling prior. And you are eating within 30-60 minutes after your workout, so that part is good too. If you start to increase the length or intensity of your workouts, you may need to fuel before-hand, but again you will know your body best and what you are capable of. Spark Coach Nancy says that we are all an "experiment of one". This means that what works for me and is good for me, may not work for you. This is one of those times. If you truly wanted to have something, without it feeling forced, try a 4 ounce serving of V8 juice. Hope this helps, Judi

I susally don't eat before a morning workout...but, if I need to add something to the fire I usually have a small container of unsweetened apple sauce, a half cup of juice, half a banana, a palm of almonds, or baby carrots...these work for me and I don't feel full or forced!!
