Mmm... Next time I get brussel sprouts, I'm seriously picking up some turkey bacon. This sounds soooo good! I usually use plain greek yogurt instead of sour cream. It just adds a punch of protein to meal. I think my kids might actually eat them this way. I've tried roasting them with carrots and they eat the carrots and leave the brussel sprouts. Maybe shredded they'll eat them without thinking about them. Thanks for posting this! emoticon

Clean and shred the brussel sprouts - either with by hand or in a food processor. Core and chop an apple - keep the peel on. Heat about a tablespoon of olive oil in a large saute pan and add the apple. Cook and brown the apple for several minutes and then add the shredded sprouts. Continue sauteing until the sprouts are done to your liking -- I usually cook about 15 minutes. Add some salt to taste. Just before serving add about a teaspoon or two of honey.

I like pan roasting them like others have mentioned, but another way I cook them is: microwave the sprouts (either whole or halved), add butter and a touch of maple syrup. The maple syrup nicely balances the bitterness of the sprouts - just a tiny bit though, you don't want them to taste sweet. I think I got that from a Jacques Pépin show.

I am really trying to like them. My husband loves them but they taste bitter to me. I tried the garlic and skillet cooking and they were actually tasty. emoticon

I tried roasting them with olive oil Pam, a splash of balsamic vinegar and salt and pepper this weekend. They were amazing!

They are really good roasted on the grill with a little olive oil and garlic salt and pepper. Wrap in foil.

I love Brussel sprouts. I like them just plain steamed with a little salt and pepper. But, these all sound like great ideas. I will try them out.

Roasting is the way to go!
Rinse, cut in half, toss with a little EVOO, S&P. Then place cut side down on tin foil lined cookie sheet sprayed with Pam. Bake at 350-400 until they are soft enough to your liking.

I usually keep an eye on them & will pick out any single leaves that came off during the EVOO tossing as they will burn if left in too long. They are better than potato chips!

Another tip - mix in some other veggies. Great way to use up veggies. Last night I roasted brussels sprouts, carrots, mushrooms & some red potato wedges. So good!

Well...I love them with bacon and spicy mustard but for a healthier option (that I make regularly):

Clean, trim and halve the sprouts.

Heat oil in a skillet, add garlic (and pepper flakes if you want). After a minute, add brussels and saute until starting to brown. Add a little wine or stock or water to the pan (less than 1/2 a cup), cover and steam for a few minutes. Once tender, take off heat and add lemon juice or cider vinegar.

If you have a food processor (or a lot of time), you can shred the sprouts. You won't need to steam them, but you'll need to toss them a bit while cooking to cook them evenly.

Either way, the trick is lots of garlic, a little heat and a bit of acid. emoticon ENJOY!

hi everyone!

I recently started a blog where I've been posting recipes that I make for my boyfriend and I. He's a picky eater but so far all the recipes I've posted have been major hits with him! They are all very healthy recipes that don't contain processed foods and on top of it all, they're delicious!

brussels sprouts are pretty much my favorite vegetable! They are sooo good! I have a few recipes on my blog with them and I'll be posting more soon!

I like to keep it simple.Take off bruised leaves, then slice in half vertically. Heat a skillet on medium heat with butter (or whatever you use for butter) until hot. Add garlic paste (or other type of garlic). Mix in with the butter. Place the sprouts flat side down and cover pan. Let the sprouts caramelize. This is the good stuff. Flip the sprouts over and add pepper to your liking. This is a good basic, simple start and it is easy to make. From there you can get creative now that you are familiar with the tastes, and your own personal preferences. :)

It isn't about weight. It is about being comfortable with your own skin...

It took me a few tries to get brussel sprouts right. Here's what I do...

Cut sprouts in half lengthwise. Mince some garlic or a shallot. Heat a large saute pan over med-high heat with some extra virgin olive oil. Once pan is hot, place brussel sprouts cut side down in pan and let them start to carmelize. Once browned, flip them over and add your garlic/shallots, a pinch of crushed red pepper and salt to taste. Cook for a couple of minutes and then add a little chicken or vegetable stock (about 1/2 cup usually). Cover and let the sprouts steam until cooked through, about 5 minutes.

These are SO good...they have a lot of flavor from the stock and are just a little spicy from the pepper flakes.

Oh, I love brussel sprouts: Here's what I usually do -- shred the sprouts, set aside. In saute pan, fry some lean bacon that has been cut up. To the bacon (& the residual hot fat) add a half yellow onion, diced. Add the shredded brussel sprouts to the pan and saute until bright green. Season with some nutmeg, salt and pepper. Serve hot with some lite sour cream. Yum.

Take off any outer leaves that are bruised, cut them in half, put in a bowl and add a little EV olive oil salt and pepper, put on a baking dish and roast them at 350 for about 30 minutes. Toss them once during that time. They will be a little browned and taste delicious.

So I randomly picked up some fresh brussel sprouts today... I've never eaten them before let alone cooked them. I'm in need of some suggestions...
