I don't think it's something people fear necessarily, however, as a mom to child who was always skinny then suddenly gained an appreciable amount of weight, it is something I monitor.

It sounds like you're on the right track, teaching her to enjoy healthy foods right from the start. From my experience, her taste buds will change numerous times, but you need to keep offering healthy options. I've seen too many parents fall into the trap of offering chicken nuggets/Mac and cheese night after night because their kids wouldn't eat what was for dinner. Unfortunately, that's how you end up with a kid who will *only* eat those foods.

I'm not sure what pressure you're worried about (Friends? Media? Grandparents?), but as long as she gets most of her nutrition at home in her formative years, I wouldn't worry about the occasional Happy Meal/cupcake/cheetos when she gets older. Personally, I've found that my kids (7 and 4) could take it or leave it when it comes to most junk food, and are pretty responsible about eating it in moderation when it's available. That makes me so proud.

I have a nine year old son, and he's always been a big eater. I do worry about him overeating. He seems to go from not hungry, to STARVING with no in between. I make a healthy dinner as often as I can, and I also pack his lunch every day. At least then I know what he's eating and can be sure he gets a healthy variety.

I have diabetes as did my grandfather and uncle. I worry about them getting diabetes, but I know we eat healthy at home - and that includes fruits and vegetables, healthy grains, fish … as well as incorporate the occasional fast food, junk food. I believe that I have taught my children to have balance in their diet, to not fear food and to not be constantly thinking of it, but to treat it as a fuel for their bodies, as something to be enjoyed in moderation and in social settings…As parents we have to have confidence that we have given our children the tools they need and the knowledge to make good decisions and the ability to have balance in their lives to let them live healthy, wholesome lives. I also fear that I will pass on to my kids my food issues. So far my kids seem to be doing all right and seemed to have found the balance in their own lives. And they are happy too.

I have a semi personal question for you all. Now, my daughter is only two and we make sure she eats healthy. She prefers apples,grapes, tomatoes and healthier snacks like fruit snack instead of junk food.

Now my question is as she gets older and feels the pressure to eat unhealthier foods I am afraid she is going to join the wave of over weight children.I of course will love her no matter what size she ends up being but I want her to be the healthiest happy little girl she can be. Do any of you have fears about your childrens weight now or in their future?
