I break mine up. I walk 20 to 30 min every morning before work. My goal is to have 3,500 to 4,000 steps in before I sit at my desk.

Then at lunch, when I don't have the trainer in the eve, I go to the gym and work out for 40 minutes. On Mon and Thur eves I have hired a personal trainer for strength training. I am on session 7 out of 20. Then I will do strength training on my own.

At night, if it's nice, I play outside with my son, sometimes take a walk...or I walk circles in my living room while watching tv. I try not to hit the pillow until I am over 10,000 steps.

For the first time I am sticking with it. I didn't start out this way. I started walking 10 to 15 min per week! But, 6 weeks later I am up the above schedule! Never thought it would happen!

I try to carve out at least an hour a day for exercise. And lately it's about intensity which I get from biking. Can do intervals or steady riding, burn way more cals and save the joints. Also, I help make time for my SO by watching our son so she can make time for exercise. Which is exactly what she did today and went for a long, long walk. Our son makes her want to do that. emoticon

when the weather is suitable I take my kids to the track with me. I put my son in the stroller and my daughter pushes him around while I run. I can see them from where ever I am and they can see me at all times too. Plus it is good exercise for my daughter too.

I workout in the mornings when my kids are either still in bed(I have teens) and my husband's at work, or I'll switch it up sometimes and include the family in an evening walk or swim. I also do core and yoga workouts when I'm cooking, just to include more exercise instead of just standing there waiting for the timer!

I would also have to say the Jillian Michaels videos are great!! My 3 year old likes to "try" and do these with me. They are a great way to promote fitness with the kids as well!

I have some 20 minutes workout DVDS. I get up ahead of the kids and get in a quick workout. I do another one after the kids go to bed. Since they are so short I fit two in and get a great workout. I use the 30 day Shred DVDS. I really work up a sweat in a short time. I also play with kids in the yard in the afternoons. Chasing a ball around with a 3 and 4 year old is really great work. Finally, I volunteer to walk the dog. While my hubby puts the kids in the bathtub, I take the dog for a nice walk.

Getting fit!!!

It's not always easy, but I try to work out in the mornings after the kids have gone to school. With summer just around the corner, they will be home with me. I have 2 kids, ages 10 & 11 yrs. My oldest is a special needs child who has Cerebral Palsy. He needs constant round the clock care and attention. BUT......and there is always a but, :) I work out in another room at home. I have two machines and can do stretches and ab work in the living room so they don't get too lonely. I keep my work out room (just another bedroom) door open, so if they need me, they just come get me. That's why gyms don't really work for me right now. I also utilize days when my husband is off, so I can work out with no worries and just focus on me.

Get everyone involved and make it fun!!!!
Find that time in your schedule that you would watch TV or when you are most inactive and slot in a work out, a walk and game with your family...

My husband and I decided this past winter to become more active and now we never watch TV. We joined a gym together, although we have very different fitness goals, it works really well to have a partner join with you. The kids are enrolled too and they love to go with us. So everyone wins. We plan gym time for right after an early dinner, from 6/6:30-7:30/8. The kids get ready for bed and are asleep in no time, and there is no TV on anymore in the evenings.

I am so happy we did this together.

My daily goal is 10 min per day, however I expect to exceed that each and every day. This is to ensure that I become committed to my goal, as I get more and more used to thinking about and planning for my next daily activity, until daily exercise becomes a natural rhythm for me.

I get up at 4:40AM and meet my friend at the gym! Between kids, husbands, work, life...there are too many things that can come up to get in the way to go after work! The accountability of having someone there waiting on you keeps us both showing up...only one time each have we backed out on the other...and the other one still went. You have to find someone serious to show up that early though. I had another friend join the gym a month or so ago, we have yet to see her show up....

Hmmm I have been exercising at night after the kids go to bed. A lot of people are saying they get up before the kids in the morning.. I might have to start doing that. It might be better than what I am doing cause some nights I am just too tired to do anything...

I work out at the Y while my 4 kids are in programs there. My girls take dance classes and all of them are in swim classes now and then. The littlest ones get to play in the child watch room if what we are there for isn't something they are involved in. There is no guilt for me this way, because they all have gotten to love going to the Y. Usually my husband will play with them in the gym if he is there, and they love that. The little ones even love the childwatch room because there are "new" toys and friends there. My two year old especially loves that they let him color with markers, which doesn't happen much at home! The indoor walking track is also stroller friendly. The membership cost was initially a strain on our budget, but I'm glad we made a way to work it out. The whole family is benefitting!

I have a 19 month old and it's hard to usually find time. So I wake up at 5:30am to do it and I know it might sound crazy, but I actually get a burst of energy for the rest of the day and now I love waking up. It is my personal time! Like someone else mentioned it earlier, it is an appointment with myself and my health, so I have to keep it when it's set on my calendar. :)

I have always been the type of person that starts a workout regimen and quits after a month. I recently bought equipment to work out at home, and have learned that this was a great decision. I'm always able to squeeze in exercise while I'm watching one of my favorite shows. Time flies that way!!!

I like to do things with the kids outside so I take them to the zoo or the park or sometimes we just go out in the yard and play tag. Let me tell you it's a work out playing tag with a 6 and 3 yr old. They help me garden too. I also have a kinect which helps us have fun and work out. Then my hubby usually watches them when i sneak two hours a week to the gym.

While at work, I try to do my yoga, walking in place, and toning with my stretchy bands. Its quiet in the early mornings. When I practice my breathing and center myself I do so much better. My mantra used to be quiet and still now its quiet and movement.

I bought a few dvds that have 10 and 20 minute workouts on them, and I do as many as I can while my 11 month old is eating breakfast in his high chair and my three-year-old is still sleeping. I figure every little bit counts, and some days that really is only 10 minutes!

During the week, I get up early and do a workout DVD each morning.
Three evenings a week, I also do a short (15 min or so) workout after the youngest children are in bed.

On the weekends, sometimes I get up early to work out. If I sleep in, then I let the children work out with me. They have fun, I have fun, and even if we don't do the exercises properly we're all moving around.

My youngest daughter now says to me, "Come on Mummy, let's exercise!"

I've just started back to work part-time after having my daughter 8 months ago, so the days i work i walk there and back, and i walk home for lunch too, so that's 40 minutes. When i'm not at work i go for a run first thing in the morning while my husband's still at home. I try to fit in ST when my daughter naps through the day.

I'm trying to be better at this...I've started playing with my kids when they play..jump rope, pretending the sidewalk is a stepper, or going for walks around the playground as they play. We have also moved the elliptical into the living room so it might be easier to mindlessly exercise while watching TV instead of mindlessly snacking !!

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

I hit snooze every time. I can't get up in the mornings to workout and am jealous of those that can start their day that way. I do workout at night. I try to put on my workout clothes as my kids get ready for bed. I'm more likely to go exercise if I'm already dressed for it. Plus then my kids say "Mommy, are you going for a walk?". Once I say yes then I feel I have to do it.

When we were raising our kids we also had problems finding time. Now I have the time and am now working on getting rid of 40 excess lbs and getting healthy. Fact is, I know I could have done better and recommend that folks do their best to NOT use raising kids or anything else as an excuse. Had I only watched my caloric intake I could have maintained my weight and some of my health. If I would have added just 20 minutes every other day of ST, I should have been able to even increase my health.

So the point is, don't find excuses for NOT being able to eat right or be active. Eating right is really very simple and finding a few minutes per day to be active is also not all that hard. You may have to be flexible, but it still isn't that hard. I would just recommend to NOT be overly aggressive and trying to get 2-3 hrs every other day or whatever. Just take it slow and easy until you can manage more time to do more. But just think, If after the kids leave the roost, you have maintained your health and weight or even just added 10-20 lbs, that's no big deal and you'll be back in shape in no time. But if you just give in, eat stupid, and check out of life for 20 years, you just may have 100-200 lbs to get rid of, and that is NO easy journey.

So find the time and keep the faith.

I question, therefore I think; I think, therefore I am; ........ I think?

Life is tough, but it is tougher if you are stupid. ;-) John Wayne

We can always find reasons to quit or not do what is needed to maintain a healthy and fit lifestyle. The trick is to fight this tendency. NOW SHUT UP AND SWEAT.

TODAY: It's as good as any day, and better than tomorrow.

I struggle with this actually. The past three weeks Ive been trying to get up and ride the bike at least 4 mornings/week. However, when the little one has sleep trouble its hard to get up early and do it. Im trying to just keep pushing forward though and each day do my best to get it done at some point.

This thread is just what I was looking for! My daughter just started ditching naps, which was when I used to work out, so i've been slacking. I gained a few back even. I'm going to attempt to do a quick few circuits while she watches Max and Ruby. emoticon 20 minute kid's show and a 20 minute Circuit dvd, coincidence? I think not.

It has always been hard to sneak in a workout up until lately. now that my son is 3, he can watch tv or play by himself which helps alot. but sometimes he tries to do it with me and gets in the way lol

I myself have a 6 yr old. So what I do is go to the skate park where there is a playground, and so my daughter plays and gets in her exercise while I walk my 3-4 miles. i also have the Wii dance so we take turns dancing. I involve my daughter in most of my exercising. It's fun and it keeps her busy as well.

I too have been trying to find time to make this work. I was off work over the Christmas holiday for a couple of weeks and actually had the time to do my Zumba on the xbox but now I am struggling to make time. I am hoping that once my morning schedule gets back on track and I get used to waking up again, I'll be able to get up a little earlier and do that before work. I also have to stop making excuses. emoticon

I am just getting started. I am a single mom with 3 kids and a full time job and a small pt job. I am figuring out quickly that I have to be creative. So the last few days I have been gettin up a little earlier and doing a short workout and before I go to bed I do another short work out. Also at work on any breaks that I have I have been going for walks. Now keeping up with this on a regular basis is gonna be the key.

I work out in the morning before my 3 and 1 year old wake up or during their afternoon nap. I also try to incorporate them into my workout - walking or jogging with them in the stroller.

I don't find time; I MAKE TIME. It works best for me early morning. After working out I feel better. Working out is one of the few things we cannot do for someone else, We can't pay anyone to do it, and get the benefits. It is one of the best ways to be good to yourself. It sets the scene and tone of the day so I can be a better person to everyone else. sbb

It's definitely difficult. I think the best time to exercise is in the morning before everyone gets up, but I'm not a morning person and this often does not happened as planned. But I've made a commitment to myself to fit my workouts in no matter what. For instance, by 9:00 PM, I still hadn't gotten my workout in. After I put my son to bed, all I wanted to do was sit on the couch and watch the season premiere of the Bachelor! :) But I realize, I'm always going to be tired, and there's always going to be something on TV that I want to watch at the end of a long day. So, instead, I jumped on the treadmill then did my strength training. I feel so proud of myself now. Remember...no matter how busy or tired you are, you can do it! Even 15 minutes. I always tell myself that I can do anything for 15 minutes. *Double fist bumps* Keep at it! I'm off to watch the Bachelor!

I try to get my workout in first thing in the morning. I tend to have more energy throughout the day and once I get it done I can focus on the multitude of other things that usually need to be done around the house.

My good workouts only happen early early in the morning. So, I get up by 4:45am to get my workout done, get ready, for work, etc. Every time I try to workout in the night, I inevitably fall asleep or just have too much to do.

On nights I don't have to work, I run when my husband gets home from work. One day a week I use the elliptical at gymnastics while my daughter is in class. The rest of the days I do dvd's at home. Sometimes my kids are playing and sometimes they will try to do them with me (they are 2 & 4)

I try to schedule my work out time but it is always the first thing to get bumped and with 4-5 kids to run after all the time it gets bumped to often.

I feed my little girl, burp and change then put her in her swing and run on my treadmill. If I do it first thing I don't lose motivation or get too busy. That's while I'm on maternity/parental leave. When I'm back at work we do some form of physical activity every morning, I'm in the Canadian military.

I work full time and attend college, and my husband also works full time...so we're pretty busy to begin with. My son is almost 3, and sometimes I just exercise with him. I may set him up with some crayons and construction paper or some cars or legos, and then I just go for it. Often he'll come by me and mimic me a little, and I'll encourage him to try exercising with me. He thinks it's hilarious to try to do the elliptical, too.

Other days I will exercise after he's gone to bed, and there are also 2 days/week that he is at preschool and I sometimes don't have work those 2 days (I mostly do nights, and diff. schedules every week). Those are the days when I get the biggest, best workouts in.

Another alternate is to take him for a walk. Either we go for a leisurely stroll with him walking, just to get moving, or he'll get in the stroller so I can make it a bit more of a workout.

I am really struggling with this as well. I work full time. 45 + hours a week. Then my 10 year old has football and homework and dinner. Often it is 9 before I can even think about it. My 3 year old does not go to bed on a consistent basis and on the weekends I am so tired from the week. Even the thought of doing one more thing makes me tired. I was going to zumba 3 nights a week but the time has changed and with my sons sports I don't get to class on time if at all. My 10 year old and I have started getting up 15 minutes earlier to walk the dog. But I appreciate reading everyone elses comments to get some ideas as well. Thanks,Lisa

I am learning to MAKE time for exercising. I have a 5 month old so during the day is impossible...plus I am a full time working momma...I get an hour for lunch so I starting walking around the city (with a route planned) and go. And I just started making time to go after I put my little man in bed at 8. As long as I leave the house by 8..i can get in a 45 minute workout and be home between 9:15 and 9:30.

Your friend just called and says she wants to have lunch/dinner with you, or go see a movie. What do you do? You frantically think of a way to make it happen and then you do. It's the same way with exercise. We all have the same amount of time every day. You have to make it because it's never going to "just happen". I'm a self-employed single mother of one. I know about having a lot to do.

I usually make myself get up early every morning. There is no way for me to do it in the afternoons with cleaning and making dinner. I dont feel like doing it early in the morning but I push myself.

Hello there! I can relate to your dilemma... and one of the things I try to do on the busiest of days is try to slip in activity of some sort even if it is for a few sporadic moments. Take the stairs, pace when I am waiting, throw the ball in the backyard with the kiddo, do planks... even in the bathroom at my office! (That is a stress reliever for me too!) :) It makes me feel like I am still moving.... and ties me over until I can get a good workout in. I am loving some of these responses! Good luck to you, and thanks for sharing.

This is so tough! I'm a mom of two, with a hubby who works at minimum 55 hours a week, and I'm trying to get my own business of the ground...so I can definitely relate. I find that I actually have to pencil workout sessions into my calendar, sometimes in the morning early (if it's a shorter workout), sometimes in the afternoon...it's a priority for me, so I fit it in. Remember to think of that time as time to take care of yourself...it IS important!

You are all inspirations! Thank you. I've omly got three teenagers and my wife does most of the effort but i still struggle daily to carve time for myself out of the work day... I'm trying the 5am setup right now.. It's really tough but wow, the energy level gained for the rest of the day is just amazing!

With young children it can be very difficult. Try getting up just 15 minutes earlier (when they're still sleeping) to work out, or try during their naptime or after they are asleep. It's hard at first to get less sleep, but the exercise will give you more energy in the long run. Good luck!

With 7yr, 6yr and 1yr old, a full time shift work job and a hubby time is scarce. There is no good time to exercise. If I'm on early shift, before work is far too early so I wait until my youngest is in bed, then the lounge is mine to work out on the wii fit. The older two some times join in but mostly play to one side while hubby cleans up the dinner mess. If I'm on late's I get a work out in first thing before work either before the family get up or while hubby does the school run. If I'm on nights its normally a late afternoon work out before the kids get in from school. Hubby takes my youngest on the school run so I've got the house to myself. Which ever way you look at it I'd be stuffed without the support of hubby.

WIth a 6 yr old and an infant, working full time and wife, the only time I find best is hitting the gym at 5 am. Sure, it's really hard sometimes, when it's so dark and cold outside but I consider my time at the gym "me-time" and love every minute of it. When I get back, I'm full of energy and pep and ready to seize the day. My family is still sleeping when I get back but I get my kids ready for school and the nanny in record time once I get home.

It's easy to say you're too tired, too stressed, too busy, too this or too that. Too bad. The only way you'll strip away the fat is to start by stripping away the excuses.
