"Diaper-Free Before Three" by Jill M. Lekovic M.D. It's GREAT. Debunks a lot of the junk philosophies out there and gives a history and the reasons behind things. I loved it :)

For a while, I was sure that we'd have to send my son to college with diapers for poop... He was 4 before he was potty trained AT ALL, and we tried EVERY SINGLE method out there. Fundamentally, when he was ready, he started poopin' in the potty.

A friend did recommend that after putting the diaper on him (and knowing he was going to poop), put him on the potty, so that he poops on the potty, in his diaper. Do that for a while, and then try putting the diaper in the potty (like a kiddie potty, not a real one!) and that eases them into the whole poopin' in the potty thing.

We also had a bit of luck with rewards. Everytime he pooped in the potty, he'd get a popcicle.

Good luck to you!

I wish I had some words of wisdom. My first 2 boys were completely trained-pee,poop, and nighttime, by 3 years old. My last two (5 year old twins) are horrible. They are still in a pullup at night because they have no bladder control when sleeping. One of them holds his poop for a week or more and when he does go, it's in his undies- never the potty. I have tried the cold water shower thing- didn't work for me.

I hope someone's suggestions work for you! Good Luck!!

Kristy

My daughter is like Mrs_VW_03's son. Undies? Who cares! I think I'm going to try the toy thing. She's only 3 and does really well with potty but pooping is another story!

My daughter use to do the same thing. I didnt really do anything about it, she just grew out of it. It was a stage for her. So it may be just a stage for your child too. I wouldnt stress out TOO much about it.

My son is just over 2.5 and he has the peeing down, but won't poop in the potty. We have been giving him M&M's and stickers for peeing, which has worked amazingly, but still wouldn't poop. We just bought toy cars (his favorite thing in the world) to give to him if he goes, but it's been almost a week and still nothing. Even his 18 month old sister is pooping in the potty, but he won't. It's at least helped me knowing that other people have problems with their kids doing that as well. Oh, and big boy underwear didn't help. He has no problem pooping in those either.

You're right about the diaper being a "bonding" thing. I don't think I'll be doing the cold washes but it's always interesting to hear others approaches.

I don't recommend this to anyone else, but when both my boys started the "holding" I popped them in the bathtube standing and rinsed them with cold water rather then those nice wipes. Fist one took two cold washes at 3 and 2 months and my second was tougher, took him 5 washes at age 3 and a half before he stopped. Not freezing cold, just the cold from the tap. Then I sterilized the tub. I have a third boy that just turned two. I'll do the same to him if he starts "holding" Changing a diaper is a bonding comforting thing, when it was time to end. I ened it, again, this was just my way.

yes, I too read the book to my boy. he hated to go poop because he would gag from the smell and was scared he would get it on his fingers. So I bought the little wipes called Kandoos and he has gone on his own since!
have you tried charts?
since she waits for you to put on the pull-up, maybe it would upset her if she actually dirtied her pretty panties. Its a mess, but it might just be the thing to do.
good luck

Yes - I bought that book for my nephew years ago (and had forgotten about it). I thin I'll track it down for my son.

There is a book out there called "Everybody Poops".
She might be embarrased about it.

We're currently on a loop with the "Elmo goes potty" DVD and it helps explain the whole process. My lil' guy LOVES it (and is attempting more time on the potty).

From all the articles I've read - going "poop" can be a very traumatic thing for some kids.

I hope the DVD helps! Good luck mom!

my daughter is almost 4 and I can't get her to poop in the potty. I will put her to bed, have her go potty first, put a pull up on and she will poop in it 15 minutes later. She has been holding it in and waiting for nap or bed time. She has been training for the pee for months and hasn't had any accidents with that for months........can't get around to poop thing. any suggestions?

Stepfanie's Easy Poached Eggs and Pasta

I can't get enough of this easy recipe; I've been making it for dinner a couple of nights a week. It's ready in 15 minutes!

The still-runny egg yolk adds a creaminess to the sauce and perfectly mixes with the spinach.

If you want to spruce up the jarred sauce, add a 1/2 t oregano and a pinch of red pepper flakes.

I sometimes swap broccoli (fresh or frozen) or sliced zucchini for the spinach.

If I have it on hand, I add a dollop (1/2 ounce) of goat cheese or a sprinkle of Parmesan (calories not included). Full Recipe
