oy vey.......13 !! For as long as I've been teaching that age group, I'll never get over the feeling of that favorite ride from travelling carnival. Kinda scared, exciting, nauseous, exhausted...and going back for more regardless.

My hats to all you parents of teens (and please pray for me and mine when the time comes...if karma is any indicator then it's going to be one hell of a ride!!)

As much as I love my son, I do identify with Homer Simpson sometimes! When his mood is up he is the funniest kid and a joy to be around. So help me when it swings the other way watch out world. I never realized boys went through the same hormone changes as girls, what an eyeopener!

I have three thirteen year olds right now (two girls and boy) and yikes...what a difference versus their old "sweet" selves. Can you say "surly?" Less chatty, more moody, grumpy buttons are easy to push. Luckily, they are mostly still wonderful to be around but when they aren't they sure aren't!

Son's love their Mommas, they may get attitudes at times but we all do when trying to grow up and be our own individual person. I have had four thirteen year olds and love every phase they have gone through. Difficult at times? Yes, but worth each and every heart ache. emoticon

My son is 14 and sometimes it like pulling teeth to have a conversation with him. Always one word answers. He's not being rude, just not real talkative. Then there's my 8 year old daughter who is a chatty patty. I guess they balance each other out. LOL

That was possibly the age that my son started the "attitude" stuff too! He's now 17 and his "attitude" has changed again -- still defiant when he wants to be -- but more accepting. The teen years -- they are some rough ones -- but just hang on, keep supporting and keep that communication open. Our kids are really under alot of stress too at school and with their friends, etc., and sometimes they need to get their frustrations out on someone and they know we'll love them unconditionally -- so we have to take the brunt of alot of that frustration sometimes. But we love them and have to swallow and keep that show of love and positives happening. Your son sounds wonderful and be proud Mom!

My 13-yr old son had an attitude last night when I told him I did not like his "tone" but then before bed he came and gave me a kiss goodnight - I guess there are just some battles I don't need to fight. Overall he is a great kid, athletic, good honor student, and I don't envy the teenage years for him!

I have a lovely thirteen year old boy. And really he is-mannerly, mature, humorous and studious. He made his first straight A's this report card.

This morning, though, he was not a lovely child. He almost made me late to work, kept being defiant and basically was so full of hormones that I am surprised he did not explode. We left on a really, really bad note this morning.

I called the school in the morning and left a message that i loved him and I was sorry. I got off work and listened to phone messages. My son had called me and said he was sorry and he loved me. My mother's heart is so mushy.

I still understand why boarding schools were invented but sometimes, thirteen year olds are worth it.
