i don't think that TRT is a bad thing.. the abuse potential can be extremely high.. and i don't think that the need for trt is always on the athlete that has abused himself with steroid use.. overtime, people's level drop to levels corellated to poor health, and this happens faster with athletes and those who train rigorously..

i personally think that the key with trt is STRICT level enforcement.. and i'm talking testing to the olympics level (VADA)..

i can't recall of any since overeem.. but in the olympics that just passed, another story..

anyone following UFC151? bones is a great fighter, but what a flaming asshole..

for 2012, getting back to race shape, and getting down to 250..

I don't get how TRT is still legal. All you need is any doctors note and you can jack up your testorone so high... Should be banned since the only real reason for it is for the people who have damaged their testosterone/estrogen ratios with past steroid use. Has there been another PED case since Overeem?

I'm 5'8" stinks being shorter

The Diaz brothers are great fighters it is just their attitude that I am not a fan of. I didn't see the fight but I look forward to it coming on my local channel and seeing it. Condit might have technically lost the fight as some people have said.

I was so glad that Condit won the interim title although I'd love to have seen Diaz versus GSP for the title later this year instead of Condit.

I guess it's a matter of how you define "great things" (as I said) or "something special" (as you said). Do I think Davis will be the man to dethrone Jon Jones? Maybe, but probably not. Do I think he will be a top 5 light heavyweight for a few years? Yes, I do.

If you look at career trajectories, compare him to Rashad directly. The Evans fight was Davis' 6th UFC fight (10th MMA fight) and going into it he was undefeated. He had previously beaten the likes of Little Nog, Gustafsson and Brian Stann. Rashad, who beat him handedly in the fight, was the #3 ranked contender. Evans on the other hand, in his 6th UFC fight ( 11th MMA fight), went to a draw with Tito Ortiz. That was clearly Tito's victory, but went to a draw because Ortiz lost a point for fence grabbing. Evans was also undefeated going into the fight, Ortiz was not a serious contender at the time of that fight and up to that point, Evans had beaten the likes of Bonnar, Sean Salmon and Jason Lambert.

Not only do I think the similarities are many, but I think Evans HAS gone on to "great" or "special" things. He completely floored Chuck Liddell, won the light heavyweight belt, beat Rampage Jackson, just beat one of the best prospects in years in Davis and is now scheduled for another title shot with Jones. Evans was 28 at the time of the comparison, Davis is 27.

Davis is already further along, haven beaten better opponents than Evans was at that point and being beaten by (Evans) better competition than Evans was (Ortiz) at that point in his career. If he continues working on his stand-up game he will become more and more dangerous on his feet. He is still learning, he has not hit a ceiling by any means.

If you don't like the Evans comparison, which just seemed fitting because he was the one that just beat Davis, look at other examples. Look at some other MMA fighters with great wrestling pedigree that were "schooled", decisively beaten, and then went on to "great" or "special" things later in their career. It happens all the time.

Dan Henderson, two time Olympian, was undefeated in MMA then lost his 10th fight. He was completely dominated, schooled, by Wanderlei Silva at Pride 12 resulting in a decision loss. Since then Henderson has won two Pride belts, the Strikeforce LHW belt, challenged Anderson Silva for the UFC MW belt, knocked out Fedor and is currently ranked #2 LHW in the world.

What about Frankie Edgar? He made it to nationals all four years in college wrestling before starting his MMA career. He won his first 8 fights, but was defeated by being totally dominated by Gray Maynard. After that Edgar has beaten former champ Sean Sherk, won the LW championship by beating BJ Penn, then defended his his belt twice. One of those times by handling Maynard, the man that put the sole mark on his record thus far.

These are "great" and "special" things in MMA and have been accomplished by fighters that have very similar backgrounds and career paths that Phil Davis has had. One loss, being "schooled" for five rounds, being submitted or being flattened, has not proven to define the careers of any fighters with the potential that Davis has. I see no reason to doubt that he will be a top-level competitor in the LHW division in the future.

Evans schooled Davis. Not sure why everyone thinks Davis will be something special after that. Evans really took care of him.

I agree, I think Davis will be a great fighter as he grows. He just doesn't have the experience that Evans does. You could see the difference in experience when one of them would make a mistakes. Evans would completely capitalize on it, while Davis was too slow to react. But, Davis will be around for a while.

I guess it is back to the drawing board for Davis after being handled like that by Rashad. Oh well. Sometimes a loss is super motivational for these guys, especially a previously undefeated fighter. I still expect to see great things out of Davis in the future.

The other three fights I commented on completely surprised me that they worked out as they did. Sonnen and Weidman won, both by close decisions... BUT the scorecards could have gone the other way just as easily. Dunham escaped his fight with Lentz by way of doctor stoppage - but again, if that went to the judges, Lentz could have taken that fight too.

The televised fights on Fox were not as exciting as they could have been, but hopefully the mainstream broadcast is gaining popularity for the sport in a bigger picture kind of way. Time will tell.

This weekend we get to see some great tests.

We get to watch Phil Davis test himself against Rashad. Rashad has the experience, Davis has the raw skill set. I am pulling for Davis in a BIG way, but Rashad can test Davis' chin like we have seen yet.

We get to watch Chris Weidman step up and test himself against Damian Maia. HUGE test for Weidman who is has been touted as one of the best middleweight prospects in years. I really like Maia, but am pulling for Weidman in this bout.

Evan Dunham gets to test himself... against himself. While he is facing Nik Lentz, it is really a test for Dunham to solidify his way back to the top. He was on the fast track to contendership then lost a questionably close decision to former champ Sean Sherk and got flattened by Melvin Guillard. Lentz is an unexciting but determined wrestler that will need to dig deep to shut down the dynamic Dunham.

Of course there is the fight between the two most hated guys in the UFC, Chael Sonnen v. Michael Bisping. While they are both arrogant and abrasive, at least Sonnen entertains me with his ridiculous statements. So not only do I think he will handle Bisping rather easily, I'll be cheering him on in doing so.

He brought it upon himself though. He has a history of not making weight. He is a professional fighter and knows that he has to make weight.

I don't like Overeem, but he's a beast. He's going to be hard to beat. Side note...anyone watching UFC tomorrow? I don't think the card is worthy of a PPV. There are some good fights, but it should have been one of the free cards.

Yep. Not a big fan of him either. But he's one of the best strikers in the heavyweight class. I don't think Lesnar's heart was in it. Knowing that he had 1-2 fights before he would retire just took his mind out of it. Plus Overeem caught him with some brutal knees early on.

UFC event coming up this Saturday. I am not crazy about the main event though featuring Jake Shields. I wonder if this fight is to see if Ellenberger is worthy to challenge GSP for the title? Any ideas anyone?

"Can't" is definitely a relative term. By that I mean, it can be a mental or physical block. I was fortunate to win every TKD competition I entered. I love MMA and really enjoyed training in it. I proved in TKD that I had the physical talent. Unfortunately I don't have the mental strength to sit on a guys chest and punch his face in. I've kicked guys in the face, but it was one and done. Doing it repetitively definitely takes a different type of mental strength that I never had.

Steven Segal is an accomplished Martial Artist who actually trained Anderson Silva for his fight against Belfort. Those who can do, those who can't teach.

I studied and taught martial arts, and studied MMA, and have respect for both. There are millions of people who actually study and respect martial arts. That fact is, MMA it not intended to be "true martial arts". It is fighting. True martial arts is about personal growth and balance.

Dana White pays his guys to talk trash and build drama. I've competed (and won) in state and national martial arts tournaments. Do you know how many (few) people attend those events? UFC is a business to make money and Dana White has figured out what people will pay to see.

Odds are, a "true" martial artist won't ever be a champion in the UFC. Most of them don't have the drive to just beat on a guy until a ref stops the fight. That's one of the reasons I competed in TaeKwonDo, but never in MMA. I studied MMA for knowledge, fitness, and skill, but would never have it in me to fight the way the guys do. Chuck Norris is as true a martial artist that exists today, but I don't think he would even consider fighting MMA.

Why do so many people like Anderson Silva? Am I one of the few out there who actually studies martial arts and enjoy the respect and discipline it represents? While Silva seems to only care about playing around with this opponents and show-boating in the octagon, showing no real respect, just his facade of respect and dignity at the beginning or end of a fight, only to trash-talk later in interviews. I will give Silva the fact that he has tremendous power to be able to put down so many others with little effort, but how much is skill and how much is roulette-luck? Sorry, I just can't wait for a TRUE martial artists to knock him off his pedestal.

We just watched Anderson destroy Okami with his hands behind his back! After that it brought up the discussion of Jones. We all agree with GOLF PRO, Jones is gonna hold on to that title for a long time! The only way I can see anyone taking the title from him (RAMPAGE DOESNT STAND A CHANCE!) is if his inexperience plays a factor and someone catches him making a rookie mistake. I can see Rashad challenging him because thus far Jones has dominated on the ground, but Evans' background is wrestling so he wont be able to bully Rashad on the ground, but in the case of Rampage/Jones...Jones can beat him standing up the same way Forrest did with leg kicks, or take him down and smash him. Either way Jones is walking out the champ...Agree?

I don't think Rampage can survive Bones. It should be a good fight, thought. I like both guys, but Jones just seems to be the next Anderson Silva.

I agree that Ortiz is definitely entertaining to watch. Now that he is supposedly injury free and has added to his arsenal I am hoping for a good fight. Now I am not a fan of either one but I have to root for Ortiz in this case. The shocked look on Dana White's face was really the best part of the fight for me though. Mr. White expected Bader to finish off Ortiz and send him home with a beating. Bader also thought this was going to be a simple task. Surprise!

yeah, i agree with you about the tuf finale.. sucks because i wanted ramsey to win more than tony, but that was a pretty good ko..

what do you guys think about the upcoming evans-ortiz? i'm one of those fans that is glad to see tito back (although it might be for a short time).. but the facts of his 'comeback' are interesting.. he's been 'almost back' for a while, and now that he's injury free, we might actually see some better fights from him..

for 2012, getting back to race shape, and getting down to 250..

Big night for Tony Ferguson! Poor Ramsey Nijem didn't see that punch coming until it was too late and all in the 1st round. Poor Pettis just couldn't seem to handle Guida's relentless takedowns although he did avoid most of the ground and pound. Ed "Short Fuse" Herman should have been called "short work" Herman against Credeur. Sadly all that touting about Credeur being Louisiana's 1st BJJ didn't mean anything in the cage. He never got to use it.

Aldo and Hominick put on the best fight of the night to me. I really thought that the doctor was going to stop the fight looking at the big knot swelling on Hominick's head...It is good to see that Randy Couture got to walk away from the game on his terms. He'll always be part of the UFC and a legend.

hey mindy, i definintely do.. it would be interesting to see if a promotion would put something together again with the old timers.. but the more difficult task would be to get frank (or was it ken) off the juice..

lol.. in the end, one of the gracies would win anyway..

Looked like he finally took a fight seriously. It's about time!

Anyone else see the Fedor fight? Probably the right call to stop the fight, but I wish they would have let him keep fighting if he wanted to.

Anyone watching fights tonight? The card doesn't excite me too much, at least not for $50. Couple good looking fights, but seems more like a card that should be one of their free ones.

Oh yeah! I watched that last night and looked at the video again on the net. Big props for trying and landing that kick. Even more respect for Henderson recovering from it so fast.

Wow, how about that kick that Pettis landed. That was one of the coolest kicks ever. If you haven't seen it, try and find it. It was in the 5th round of the Pettis vs. Henderson fight in the WEC.

Good point! I can't blame them there is a time to let the spotlight shine on others in the ring. A good coach/teacher like Lloyd Irvin can still get recognition by helping his fighters reach the top.

i wouldn't be surprised.. most of the "older" athletes are more about the business for themselves and preparing for strings of losses and possibility of getting dropped from organizations..

Anyone read the latest copy of "Ultimate MMA" magazine? The writer seems to want to paint a picture that Koscheck is really just a business person at heart. He wants to entertain fans but will take a win by any means possible. He only cares about winning and it doesn't matter to him if people watch to see him win or lose.

Yes that card is definitely one I want to watch. But only for the GSP/Koscheck match the rest of that card doesn't look to impressive to me.

yes, i was very curious to see lauzon-soti.. definitely a good battle.. lauzon wasn't defending the kimura very well - maybe frustrated from his previous setups, or better strategic positioning from george? but definitely a great fight..

.. and i was very surprised by penn-hughes.. i'm a big penn fan, but i had him losing to hughes.. however, i'm not sure that his tko victory over hughes does him good in the near future.. he's going to want to stay on his feet more, and i think it's going to frustrating for his ground fans..

jackson-machida was good.. i mean, i wasn't overly excited for this fight, but it's good that rampage won.. i'd like to see a rashad rematch..

oh well.. so is life.. so who's on the next card?i can't wait til gsp-koscheck..

I was shocked by the Penn/Hughes fight and the way it ended. After all Hughes has been on a tear lately through several Gracie members and their students. The Jackson/Machida fight went the way I expected it though. Jackson trying to engage and Machida back peddling until Jackson got tired from chasing him then attacking.

anyone watch this past event? man, how disappointing is marquardt.. granted, reach/timing seemed to be an issue, but he fought with absolutely no desire in the 3rd round.. he definitely deserves to be knocked down a couple notches..

I agree that as a fighter I like him. But as a coach he is just annoying. Sadly there is no reason for him to be like that. I wish he would save that anger for the match. His team has been looking pathetic with I believe only 2 wins.

It's funny how it's getting to GSP though. I want to see a look of fear on Koz's face when they fight and he realizes he ain't got nothing for GSP.
