That's insane. The closest I've ever gone to drinking while working out was maybe a few beers during softball (if you can count that as working out).

I still do not think competitive Jameson drinking would count though unless to take each shot you had to run through an obstacle course or something...lol. Back when I was into drinking a lot, I had free-weights, pull-up bar (with gravity boots), and plenty of room for crazy exercises as we trained with alcohol to be good when it came to bar fighting...lol. It probably was not the smartest thing to do but at least a few of the calories were burnt off while drinking them...

Yeah, that's what I'm going to start doing. I guess taking shots of Jameson doesn't count, right? Haha.

I should find a good active weekend hobby.

You do not have to "workout" on the weekends, just do something that is active enough that you break a sweat. As for letting your body rest, try working out every other day, then two days on and one day rest, then three days on and one day rest...and so on until you can workout everyday if that is your goal. I just let the weather decide for me, I put in the miles when it is warm enough to not see my breath and it is not raining. That does not exclude the dumbbells I use while watching tv at night though...that is an every night thing but I do not count those as fitness minutes...

Ha. Well put, man. Not sure why I care so much.

And true about the hour per day. I can probably do it, too, but I like giving my body time to rest up. Actually, I really need to start doing something during the weekends.

Don't worry about other people's fitness minutes, if they want to cheat themselves them it is only them that they are hurting. Who knows, maybe they are counting web-surfing as fitness?...lol Just focus on your own fitness and it will take a lot of stress of yourself.

BTW, just one hour a day is not hard to do after a while... I usually do an hour and a half to two hours a day, any more than that and you would not have enough time in the day to live...lol

Haha - same here, Gravel. I sometimes see SP members with over 10,000 fitness minutes in just a few months, and I'm like "There's NO WAY they're accurately tracking them." An hour of solid non-stop exercise a day is tough to pull off.

Thanks for the tip, Brewmaster. I'll definitely keep that in mind. Going to pull the trigger in a few weeks or so.

When I go to basketball practice I just estimate my minute also. I know practice is from 6-9 but I put down 2 hours instead of 3 since there is breaks and a little waiting for the other guys to catch their breath...lol

Again, depending on how accurate you want to be ... the chest strap is way more accurate than the wrist ones (at least that was true 3 years ago when I bought mine). Anything by Polar or Garmin is probably a decent buy. I think the 50-100 price range is reasonable for cost/benefit. I would buy online as opposed to Worst Buy or some fitness store. The prices are jacked way up in my experience.

Are you referring to one of those monitors that you have to strap across your chest? Is there one you could recommend? I'd rather have one on my wrist.

I ballpark it- enter in every 3 days or so 120 minutes, because I usually run about 40 minutes/day, and add some ST. Not too serious about it......

In that case, if I cared enough to be accurate, I'd wear a heart rate monitor. The truth is, "minutes" are a terrible unit of measure when estimating activity. Intensity is equally important (or more important) as length of time. If you're hustling up and down the court for 60 minutes, you're doing a hell of a lot more than the guy shuffling.

What I used to do for activities like this where there is a high degree of variability is wear my heart rate monitor and have it report my burn rate (which is ultimately what you care about) and then enter the minutes to match the burn rate. You can also just bypass the activity and enter your calories burned in manually.

I was wondering how everyone here does it.

In my case, I play a lot of basketball and soccer, but figuring out how many minutes I'm actually actively playing is tough. For example, tonight I was at a scrimmage from 6:30 to 8pm, but I only marked down 60 minutes since I have to compensate for the standing around, in between games, stretching, etc.

At the gym, even though I'm there for an hour and a half, I'm mot actually lifting for an hour and a half. Ends up being more like 45mins (not counting im betweem exercises, rest, changing, shower, etc)

Thoughts?
