I have been using the bench press mostly. I start out with 3 sets of 10 with a semi-heavy load, then to finish I got for 1 or 2 lifts of a heavy load.

I'm old school and 3 sets of 8 has always been where I felt best. But since I have been away from this for many years, it's time I do more research to see what is the best. I am guessing it will still come down to what a person wants out of their workouts. I want good tone and some mass with endurance. But I'm thinking if one is NOT caring about endurance, but just goes for mass, then very heavy with low reps may be the way to go. I will come back to this thread after I have done more research.

I question, therefore I think; I think, therefore I am; ........ I think?

as it tuns out I may have not appraoched deadlifts the right way as far as sets/reps.

I'm going back to 5x5 for deads, squats, presses and bench.

I do 1 work set of deads, usually once or twice a week. Deads are punishing especially if I'm in PR territory. Sometimes if my workload felt a little wimpy, I might try for a second set or I might try to pull 1 rep maxes. I love doing 1RMs on deads.

I do 5 sets of 3 reps when I deadlift

Most other lifts I do 3 sets of 5 reps, but cleans and deadlifts I like to go heavier on and do a couple less reps each time

I'm 5'8" stinks being shorter
Summer 2011- 215 lbs. Peak weight
Christmas 2011- 200 lbs
Start of summer 2012- 170 lbs

Fighting weights (Same day weigh ins)-
New Breed Lightweight (159) 8/4/12
weighed in at: 155
IBJJF Featherweight (150) 9/15/12
weighed in at: 148
Naga Featherweight (149) 12/1/12
weighed in at: 148

Goal is to maintain around 152. This leaves me in easy cutting range of featherweight.

Okay, so "heavy loads" is relevant so when speaking about it I understand that your heavy and my heavy may not be the same BUT the relevancy is what's important.

How many sets/reps do you do for deadlifts (assuming you do deadlifts with a barbell).
Thanks!
