I was wondering the same thing last night. My wife was watching a movie on tv and every time a commercial came, they were like, you're now watching the 25 days of christmas marathon. I would have expected that to start on december 1st...it's like they forgot that Thanksgiving is the next holiday, unless of course they moved christmas to November 26th?... :P
I don't really have a problem with it, just threw off my senses that it's starting so early.

Meh, the good ol' days weren't always good. I believe that's what Mr. Joel told us. Here's a tip though, TIVO your shows (and skip the commercials) and don't set foot into a mall. This insulates you from a lot of the BS. Naturally, for the kids, it's about setting expectations. My parents always told me that it was Dec 25 and don't expect or ask for a thing until then. The tree didn't go up until the week, week and a half before.
If if's and's and but's were candy and nuts, we'd all have a wonderful Christmas.

It is difficult to keep enjoying the holiday when it starts so early. You get sick of the music, shopping, parties and commercials and it's not even the middle of December yet!

The stores start earlier every year. This year I started seeing christmas items mid October. It is to much about money now days. Not about the reason for the holiday!

Brian, you'll need to experience the joy of hyping kids up on caffeine and sugar then returning them to the parents. Guaranteed fun! It's what my wife and I do, since we don't have any kids.

Yes. It does start early. I typically don't start decorating until the day after Thanksgiving.

I saw my first Christmas commercial last night. It's a Hallmark ad for gift bags that have motion detectors in them for when kids try to sneak a look at their presents. Sort of a Bergermeister-Meisterberger type of dealing with kids at Christmas. You vill not enjoy zee christmas prezents before I tell you to enjoy zee christmas prezents!

The way I look at it, if I have kids, great, if not, so be it... but you better believe I won't be taking anyone else's kids off their hands. It's not my fault y'all decided to ...um, you know. lol. I had a waitress that used to short tip me at the end of the night, if she tipped me at all. After a while I finally confronted her about it, and she told me that it's not fair that she has to tip me because she's a single mother... I told her that if she had kept the pea between her knees, it wouldn't have happened. She ended up throwing $10 in my face...heehee. I made my point to her.
I do, though, like getting the nieces & nephews stuff. Since I don't babysit for any of them, the least I can do is buy them stuff to keep them quiet for their folks.

Most of you are in the USA. Isn't the friday between football thursday(Thanksgiving) and that Sat. the largest shopping day dollar wise in the USA? Here in Ontario Xmas crap comes out just before the Halloween stuff gets sold. Except Sam's Club, they had decorations and trees for sale in August!!!

Brian you can have my two kids! I promise that they will not leave you with a penny in your pocket I hate not being able to do more for them-it is impossible for me to ever afford their wish lists. If you take them that would make me and my wife very happy- But I will keep my granddaughter!

I think they're doing it to get people in the mood for Christmas. Spending money, and getting cash flow going again is the only way to get our economy going. I hate it just as much if not more than the normal guy, cuz I have no kids. Nieces & nephews, but none of my own. I don't even bother settin' up a candle in the window. Sure does leave me with a lot of money to spend on myself, so that's good.

My classic country music station played several Christmas songs today-I agree that it seems to be much too early!

I was in my local Walmart monday and they already have up Christmas stuff and are playing christmas music. Is it just me or is starting this 8 weeks before Christmas a bit much?
