Hi Shredders, I'm starting the 30-day shred again, now on day3 level 1.. I did all 3 levels starting in mid-March, ended up averaging 4 days a week. Didn't lose pounds but definitely felt good, clothes fit better and started seeing muscles in my arms again! Then went on vacation, stayed active walking a lot! Now I'm restarting the shred, determined to do it daily, and to track my meals. Today I weighed myself and somehow dropped 3 pounds along the way! Talk about feeling motivated! A little progress makes such a difference after 3 months stuck at 150. Keep on Shredding!

Hey Elizabeth, I have both of those dvds. My personal opinion is that the Shred is easier than Ripped in 30. The other one (Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism) is about the same as the other two but longer (about an hour). I'll tell you what - my hubby got me Bob Harper's Total Body Transformation for Christmas and it is killer. It is also an hour long and wow, does he work you! At first it's not bad and you're thinking, "Ehh, this isn't gonna do much" but by the end, you can barely move. Of all the dvd workouts I've done, including Ripped, this one was the most challenging for me.

Oh my gosh, the first time I tried the 30 Day Shred I only got 10 minutes into it and threw up! Then my legs were so sore the next few days I had to use the elevator at school lol. It was really a wake-up call! I usually do an hour of aerobics or biking and 20 min of pilates 6 days a week but I hardly do any strength training so the Shred really killed me the first few times I did it. After about a week of level 1 it started to get a lot easier and it was so motivating because I could tell I was getting stronger. Then I moved to level 2 and the plank work hurt my wrists and lower back too much so I gave up on it. I'll still do the level 1 from time to time when I want a short but intense workout. Jillian is so motivating and awesome and I would love to try some of her other DVDs!

I am on Day 7 of the Shred. It's my third time doing it. I haven't found Level 1 to be as difficult as I expected since I haven't done the shred in over 2 years. Nervous about moving to Level 2 though!!

If you stay with it, not only will you be able to do the exercises, you will so proud of your progress in about week and the soreness will go away. That's how it worked for me anyway.

ErinMarie and Leopard are both right on point. During my breaks, I get water and walk in place until I can catch my breath. My most challenging part is coming out of the cardio and going right to the floor for abs. I'm top heavy and have to catch my breath before I can get down there. Your endurance does increase the more you do it.

I agree ERINMARIE even if you take a break you should stay moving.

MAMACHICK1 I'm no expert, but from experience the reason they don't want you to rest is to prevent cramping. My unprofessional advice would be to, instead of stopping & resting, walk in place or any sort of light exercise until you feel okay to keep going. There is no rule that says you have to get through this exercise at high impact from start to finish. Just do what you can and eventually your endurance will start to build up & you will be amazed at how good you feel! Good luck!

Thank you QUEEN35 and to MAMACHICK1, pushing through the workout is good and does help burn more calories. Breaks are okay but i would suggest taking them only under a few circumstances such as... -You feel lightheaded -You are so tired that you cannot keep good form -Any type of pain (besides the burn of the workout) If any of these things happen, then i would take a short break. If you are just really tired and want to take a break, try takinga sip of water and getting back to the workout. I have to admit I took about 5-6 breaks the first 3 days, now that I am into day 4-5 I am only on 2 breaks. Your body will get use to it and you will be able to push through much easier. I also had the same confusion when she says that to get results you must work for the full time period. I just started to do 30 minutes on my treadmill before the video in order to make up for the breaks i knew i was going to need. Hope I helped!

Help! So what do I do if I can only make it through the first 11 or 12 minutes of Shred 1st week. I have about 40 lbs to lose and it has been a few years since I was in good shape- but I have been there and I know how good it feels. This workout is brutal for my chubby no muscled body! Do I stop or just push pause and rest until I can go on? Jillian says the reason it works is because you don't stop. But I cannot do any longer that 11 or 12 minutes without a few minutes break. Any help would be great. FYI-I tried Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds but I think I need more to meet my goals. I can do those Leslie workouts pretty easily. Its the strength that I don't have.

Hi Leopardspots! Hang in there. You're doing great. It was very challenging for me. The pause button was my best friend (and still is) LOL!!!. Just keep pressing play every day and doing what you can until you can do more. You will be proud of yourself!!!!

I'm on day 5 of week one (ripped in 30 that is.) I had to take a rest day after day 3 because of soreness, did it the next day, and had to take a rest day day after due to severe heartburn. I'm hoping I can really start doing it every single day from here on out.

I am on Level 2 and into day 6. OMG! hurt so good. My body looks forward to doing the workout but my mind is screaming "ARE YOU CRAZY"!!! LOL, Haven't lost any weight but haven't measured to know if any inches have been lost. Hubby says he sees a difference but I'm not seeing it.

I tried both "30 Day Shred" and "Shred It With Weights". I actually enjoyed both and thought the exercises were challenging, but I had a tough time sticking with it. It turns out that I'm too "lazy" to move my coffee table out of the way to exercise at home - I'd rather go to the gym 6 days a week lol!

I'm on Day 17 & loving it. Level 3 was a BREEZE compared to Level 2! Now I'm back on Level 1 doing the "Natalie" exercises, and although I can't do the push-ups, it's fun to go back to it & see how much better shape I'm in. I know I'm supposed to "hide the scale" but I can't help it, but I have finally started going down in weight, which I attribute to my healthy diet (Herbalife shakes, hard boiled eggs & LOTS of salmon, mostly). Feeling great!

30 day shred-the workout I love to hate.:)

I did 15 min of 30DS this morning. For someone who used to be athletic, this DVD really kicked my butt. It was kind of discouraging to feel all the jiggly parts of my body jumping and flopping and I had to stop twice to catch my breath. I know that, in time, it will get easier plus, if I don't keep going, my body won't change. How come losing weight can't be as easy as it was to gain it? Have a good day, everyone!

I'm on day 5 and the pushups are still challenging to me. I've progressed some but whoo whee!!! I look forward to it each morning though. Excited to see what happens after the 30 days are up.

**NOT so bad*** oops!
|
|

The only flaw in my 5/5/5 plan is that I wasn't quite prepared for level 2, and the first few days were BRUTAL, as my endurance doesn't start to show until day 8 or so, but now I'm on day 10 of the challenge and its now so bad. Last time around I was up about 6-7 lbs. around this time but have been doing really good at maintaining my diet so I'm only up 2-3 lbs. but am getting a lot of definition in my legs, which is the only significant change I've seen so far, but I have lost an inch off my belly so yeah!(I'm hoping to lose 3 more)

I started the 30 Day Shred last fall and made it 20 days. Then the holidays and cold weather hit so I got lazy! But I definately noticed a difference! So I'm starting over, I'm on Day 6 but I'm doing things differently. I decided to do 5 days of each level twice, the first round doing the "Anita" light workout, and the second round doing the harder "Natalie" workout. I noticed last time I got bored doing the same routine every day for 10 days. I also am dieting this time around. I know how hungry I start getting around day 12 or so! But, I'm going on vacation and have to fit into a bikini in 3 weeks so this time I'm sticking with it!

Well I have not done the shred in 6 days........did it 3x last week and my knee is giving me problems, even after modifying the movements on the 3rd day......I am letting it rest and then will resume when it feels better, however, I will march in place when she does the cardio.... I had also gained 2 lbs after doing the shred and since I have not done it, am now down 3.......maybe it was water like a previous poster stated?

I don't have a link, but search Sparkpeople for an article regarding water retention when you increase your exercise... basically, your body holds on to water when you begin a new exercise program to use for increased energy needs, and could be the cause for your weight gain, as it has been the cause for myself, and many other people on this site... it will let go once you become accustomed to this new routine :)
eat food. not too much. mostly plants. Goal 1: 160lbs by May 15 (breast reduction day!) Goal 2: 150 by July 1 (summer!!) Goal 3: 135-140 by December 1 (ultimate goal weight)
