I'm sure you could get some planks in or wall sits. Dancing is always good. Hula hoopin'.....jumping jacks......

I'm guessing a trio of exercise balls would be a hit.....you can crunch while they get silly.

I always pretended to be a horse and rode them around on my back. They can also be horses with you. I used to lie on my back and put the baby/toddler on my shins and bend my knees. You can also do sit ups (or hip raises) with them on your abdomen, but that's kind of hard if they weigh very much. Hope this helps!

i have had a recumbent bike for a little over a year and have used maybe 4 times, it was in my bedroom but we moved it out to our living room for this very reason....hope it helps :)

The exercise surely gets done and more quickly when you watch TV...I do my stepping for 25-30 min. and it's done!!

My sister has an elliptical machine, and I have a NordicTrack. I really don't even like to do either one, so mine has sat in the corner for years. I like to do step aerobics and kick boxing, etc. The other option is putting your bicycle on a stationary stand and riding it. That wouldn't be too bad, I don't think.

Rebounder (aka mini-trampoline). Love mine. Highly suggest checking it out. I hate running/jogging but on the mini-trampoline jogging is actually fun for me.

While watching TV, since each commercial break is at least 5 minutes, I get up and march in place until my show resumes for at least one commercial period each show. I also march in place or walk up and down my hall during long telephone calls.

Doing household chores on your own is the best exercise you can do while spending time with your family. Also you can go for walking with your husband.

My elliptical is near the tv, but I don't get on it often enough, which is lame. I wish I would be more enthusiastic about it. I do stretch during commercials, which is really needed, but often avoided.

I used to play Superman with my kids. I would lie on my back and hold my childs hands. I would hold my feet out and he would end up with his belly on the bottom of my feet. I would then "press" him up and down. Fun for him, exercise for me. With both you could play "pony" with them. One at a time. Sit down and cross your legs. Have your child sit on your foot. Gently rock them up and down while lifting your leg and holding their hands. I'd usually sing a silly song and then switch sides to even it out.
I miss those days. Oh.... I used to love to do the Hokey Pokey with them too. You can hold the baby while doing it for a good workout.

Try weight lifting the kid. You know...do sets of gently swinging the kid using your arms like a swing set. If that ain't a work out I don't know what is.

My Dad use to play with us kids that way. We also had wrestling matches with Dad. Us kids versus Dad. Always fun till someone got hurt. But, kids like to be picked up and gently swung around. We also as kids pretended to be Superman, pretending to fly around as Dad carried us around the room.

Imagination goes a long way with kids.

I jump on that rebounder (mini trampoline) of mine while watching TV, or waiting for supper to cook, or any other 10 minute space of time I have. It's so much fun, easy or hard, your choice, and better than just sitting!

I will often just get steps in, or do some weight exercises or practice my taekwondo kicks, punches, and stances while I'm watching TV.

I have a tear in one hip, so I have found I can ride my exercise bike for 30 mins. at a time. I do this 3 to 4 times a day while, watching TV/Netflix/Youtube or texting my sister. I've lost 23 lbs since Jan 3. My husband has started riding my ex. bike & has lost 10 lbs. My sister got an exercise bike llke mine and is now my long distance exercise buddy. She's in KY and I'm in IN.

I have an aerobic step. I'll get it out with some 5 lb weights and do light-moderate step aerobics while watching a show. Just stepping up and down is pretty mindless, so easy to pay attention to something else, but it is a good calorie burn!

Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance!


2017 and I am back again... up and down the same 5 lbs, this time on the higher side of 200, depressing since I had stayed just under 200 for almost a year.
Slim is where I wanted to be in 201 & 2011! Never happened, plateaued for a long time and gave up... got off track, but never left, so am back on track again!!! Make 2012 my year! So far, did finally lose 25 lbs. over the summer, but have found about 11 of it so far, it didn't hide g

It's pretty easy to do strength at home around the small kids and keep playing during. Cardio is harder imho. A good running stroller can help with that. But also remember that getting your exercise is mportant and a good example, not skimping out on mommying! no guilt!

My kids are grown, one married with a baby boy and a 3-yr old boy; and the other will be marrying in May of 2018.

I was always active with my kids as a stay home mom until they were old enough to attend a school I worked.

However, years later, I've downsized from a single family home after my husband passed away almost 4 years ago, to a 2-bedroom, 2-bath condo.

Now I have a treadmill in my bedroom and walk on it while watching tv at night.
And to replace my Spark Activity Track, I have a new Fitbit Zip which I wear on my shoe and I really like it!

The Fitbit Zip is very accurate and I am very satisfied with it.

I do not consider taking a child in a stroller while you walk, quality time for your child. There is VERY little face to face interaction.

I've got 9 children, growing up now! ages 10-23! (wow). While they were young, my husband worked LONNNNNNNG hours and I did not get the exercise I could have. I know my kids like to join me in my w/o videos. They LOVED to turn on the crazy music and dance dance dance or run around the house playing hide and seek. Some might not think this was exercise, but it was for me, if being out of breath from it was any indication. My kidders loved to wrestle around and play tickle games, trying to get away, and me having to try to catch up to them.
Simon Says games is always a hit...take it hard and fast sometimes. Simon Says march in place! Simon Says jump in place! Simon Says hop on one foot! Simon Says run in circles and yell 'booga booga booga!" lol, LAUGHTER burns calories, I'm sure of it.
Your kids will have GREAT memories of a WONDERFUL MOM!
I hope you are blessed for what you do! You are AWESOME!

Since you're down on the floor, some good floor exercises are:
Donkey kicks
Crunches
Hip abductors and adductors
Push ups - regular or modified
Bridges
Squats

Holding a dumbbell in one hand while playing with the other:
Bicep curls
Tricep extensions
Shoulder presses
Lateral shoulder raises

Put on some upbeat music.
If you find yourself dancing in your seat, take it a step further. Get up and start dancing on your feet.
You'll burn more calories that way.

I have a two year old. I'm a single, working student mom, so it's always just me with her. Here are some things that work for us. If any of them seem that they might work for you, give it a try.

1) I get in a daily workout, and she accepts it. Exercise is important, and if our kids grow up seeing us make time for exercise, they will be more likely to make time for exercise. It's not selfish to exercise, and our kids don't take long to learn that exercise is going to happen and they can either join in or play toys nearby while we do our thing. When they want, they will join in, and as they get older and more coordinated, they will likely join in more and more.

2) At least some of my workouts, she likes to join in, too. I make sure this happens several times a week, so that she not only grows up seeing mommy exercise, but she grows up exercising with mommy. Kids LOVE dance workouts. My daughter really loves zumba videos and any of Shaun T's dance videos (everytime she sees a fit guy with a bald head, she's all "LOOK, IT'S SHAUN T!" -- she loves that dude).

3) I often do floor strength and conditioning exercises with her. Pushups, ab work on the floor, planks, are all things you can do while playing tractors. As a bonus, every kid I know thinks that planks are an invitation to climb on your back, so you get some added weight to make your plank a little more challenging. lol

4) Spontaneous dance parties happen pretty often here. Just play four or five of his favorite songs and invite him to go all out dancing with you. The baby will probably be pretty amused at the sight, too! This can definitely be done intermittently with playtime and toy tractor fun.

Playing with your kids can be a fun activity but I would not count it as exercise. Some kind of sustained activity like bike riding with the baby in a carrier and the older one on a trike would be the best of both worlds. The spark videos are also a good choice. Kids love to imitate their parents in whatever they are doing.

You could take them outside for a bike ride or a long walk. It'd probably get them sleeping good too. Otherwise you could do yoga and interact with the kiddos while on the floor.

I'm stumpted on this one. Looks like others are too. I don't know how much time you give the little ones your undivided attention. That is important. Do you have time to exercise while they play? If you had a dance video, the 3 year old might enjoy dancing too.

Good luck. But enjoy those babies while they are little. They grow up way too fast.

Most evenings, my husband is working so it is just the kids and I at home. I have a 3 year old and a 4 month old. I know with our busy schedules I sometimes feel like I don't get to spend as much time with them as I want to. What are some good exercises to do while we play with his tractors and cows (his obsession) on the livingroom floor?
