I do the "step touch" aerobic step while I'm standing at my workstation. It keeps my feet moving and my energy up!

yep, I wanted to the grocery store and back. It was a few miles. Next time I'll bring my backpack. The bag was a bit heavy.

Find places nearby and walk to them.... CVS, Movies, Fruit stand.... so next time you need something from them... you can walk. Or walk to just look around. Walk around the block and couples times - see your neighborhood. Be creative. emoticon

I'm on sabbatical and my doctor was concerned that I wasn't moving as much as I used to when I was working. She told me I should be out moving in some way shape or form for at least two hours a day.

So I'm exercising and planning errands around a two hour a day schedule so I'm out and about moving and not sitting at home. The pet store and a grocery store with an organic section is within walking distance. So I'm also doing small runs every few days in order to keep moving.

It's making a huge difference!

I am Now parenting my 4 yr. old grandson. He moved in right after my birthday in July. Sitting down for any length of time, except to nap while he is napping, has become a welcomed event rather than the usual routine that it used to be. Also, this past April I was given a wonderful service dog so my previously sedentary lifestyle due to mobility issues and frequent falls came to and end as I walk Kooper 3 to 4 times per day for at least 10 minutes, if it is late at night or raining. I just wish this increased activity would produce more than major fluid retention in my lower legs. I just keep on truckin'...lol.

May the Lord Bless you and Keep you; May the Lord make His Face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; May the Lord lift up His Countenance upon you and Give you Peace.

I work in a comic book store, and every Monday we do an inventory of all the new stock that came in over the past 6 weeks. The counting sheets are printed out in alphabetical order, but the store is set up in sections (like a library). I used to do the inventory in shelf order, but now I do it alphabetically like it is on the sheets, so I'm moving around more. I actually tracked this for over a month and on average I end up walking about 1.5 miles.

One step at a time.

emoticon I just did 500 step- ups! 250 of them were with a left and right punch. I feel great, yet short winded and a little like Jell-O. Every time I counted 50 of them, I then started 51 on the opposite foot. So my legs got an equal BURN! I did these step ups after I got in 6 miles of walking outside. I am almost ready for bed!! emoticon

the same here, I take the stairs if it's a couple, or a few stairs, as well as always happy to walk for a personal errand, grocery shopping, classes, whatever if possible. I also like to walk a bridges, as they are repetitive and you get the incline of the incline on both ends.

Attach a big dream to a small beginning, and it won't be small for too long.

I schedule meetings rather than communicating via emails, which means walking across our sprawling campus a couple times a day. I have tea in the staff room, rather than my classroom, which adds three flights of stairs into my morning, and then three more in the afternoon. I get a minimum of ten flights in everyday at work.

If I sit down after I get home from work in the evening, I find I have the same trouble. Even tough I sit at work most of the day at a desk, I find it's hard to get motivated again if I stop moving after work. I also will start laundry and pick up a bit around the house while getting dinner ready. It's after dinner that I find it hard to get moving again to exercise . Good luck with staying on track this week, and thanks for the reminder not to stop moving!

I try to walk as much as possible at work. I park further away and take the stairs whenever possible. My worst "down time" is right after work. If I sit down as soon as I get home, I'm done for the night. I found that if I get home & change into comfy clothes and don't sit down, I stay moving. After I change, I throw wash in, get supper ready, unload or load the dishwasher, pick up around the house. After supper, I make it a point to start picking up the supper mess. Once my food settles I head for the treadmill. My nightly motivation really hinges on how active I remain once I get home. This works for me....

do reverse push ups using the kitchen counter while waiting for the microwave to cook my morning cereal; some ballet moves, plies while waiting for the coffee to brew; park farther away from the stores, load several shopping purchase bags in a larger bag with straps and carry them into the house on my shoulder. Use the upstairs bathroom so I can walk the stairs every time. Really like doing the new Jane Fonda walkout and low impact aerobic tapes in the morning, along with some senior stretching exercises.

A lot of great ideas on this thread. I hope to incorporate many of them. I am trying to be less sedentary.

I've gotten into Leslie Sansone's Power Walking DVDs - I've done them enough that I can watch a TV show that I enjoy and pretty much do a routine from memory - about 1 mile in 15 minutes! Works great for me...

When I go to a big box store (Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.) I take a lap or two around the inside perimeter before starting my shopping.

I park in a far corner of the employee parking lot.
I take stairs instead of the escalator (when I can - I have a bad knee)
I'm on my feet the entire time at work - so I take side step dance moves when I can.

My office is small but we have stairs so I go up and down them several times a day.

I have a desk job, so I try to get up and walk around the office once every hour.

Adding an extra walk with the dog at lunch time. Anybody got any easy to add activities during evening TV. I can't do jumping exercises but anything sitting is good

I'm a homeschool mom, so currently I am spending HOURS every day on the computer trying to get ready for school to start on Wednesday. So I have started a system, first thing in the morning I hop on the treadmill and do a mile, then after I spend an hour on the computer, I'll get up, have breakfast, go the bathroom, walk another mile, then I'll sit at the computer for another hour, working, then I'll get up and walk another mile on the treadmill and then go take a shower. By the time I'm out of the shower its about noon, so I'll have lunch if I'm hungry, hen I'll do another hour of working on the computer, and go walk my dog for 2-3 miles, so anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour of walking. Then I come back home and do a little housework, do another stint at the computer, and then start dinner.

Jesus died to set me free and its about time I let Him do it!
